What you witnessed was The Soulful Uncut Strike a Pose/Funky Model,beautiful Music Man. His body was music. Everything he did was locked into a Groove he could not get out of. PRINCE was,lost and found, at the same time. He was lost in the music,sometimes,he did not want to be found, and had the nerve to have accurate direction.Indeed,Prince was bad, Still is. I am 54 years old. Back in 1970,as a Kid. I saw James Brown at the ''Apollo''. I saw Magic. Funk Magic,with Bobby Byrd, Prince and The Time! The Best ever! I still remember the moment I first saw it. I recorded the AMAs that year, I had just turned 13. I watched my tape later and already loved the performance but at that moment I remember thinking "Who is THAT?!" Couldn't take my eyes off of him. I watched this performance over and over and have been a Prince fanatic ever since, I think I fell in love with him at that moment!

I wonder why they didn’t let him sing live. He didn’t want to lip sync. So he chewed gum to show people that he wasn’t lip syncing by CHOICE

goodness!! Prince could have just been a dancer and been great at that and known for that alone. Thankfully he didn't just stop there. What immense talent and gifts this man had and shared!! Love watching him get his groove on!!

The cameramen were slick! Whenever the choreography got too dirty, they pulled the shot back so far, the viewers at home could barely see what was going on. During the rehearsals, the censors were in the audience critiquing the show. Prince told the dancers to skip the risque parts, so the censors would be shocked during the live performance. Obviously, the censors had a plan B.

This is my all time favorite Prince performance - not counting the Superbowl.

I love the way he moved so smooth. He was just wonderful at everything he did. He was just full of talent from his head to his toes. You Are so missed my beautiful Prince. RIP.

It was Prince's choice not to sing live. Dick Clark let Prince do whatever he wanted. I think Prince didn't want the difference in sound between all the hits (while the dancers danced) and the gold experience songs not sounding on par with the prerecorded hits. It just would have sounded not as great. Prince was not allowed to sing live on soul train and the World Music Awards. Sometimes he chose not to because he could not trust the sound mix for live air tv shows.

@@jjjones8609 On page 169 of Mayte's book. She states that the show organizers wouldn't let him play "LIVE". They wanted him to lip sync so there'd be no surprises and because of Union Laws. He said he would not use a microphone then. So he brazenly chews gum. He knew there were censors in the audience. So they toned the show down. Omitting the part where the Dancers rip off their panties..Lol.....Another weird thing I noticed after reading Mayte's book. She said on several occasions that Prince would hypnotize her. WTH! Does anyone else find that strange?

I'm am completely dumb founded at the fact he is left out of a lot of best dancer lists and other conversations period, he masters everything he touched, he pioneered internet sales and went up against major labels who took advantage of him as an artist. He's untouchable!!!!

My memories of this wow! I was so excited when he came up off the floor. Such a creative genius!

never get enough of him...makes me happy to watch the videos, but cry for him.

The choreography at 4:05 is called the Billy Jack Bitch... at least, that's what I call it. After this performance, I went to a club and had everyone doing that dance. I was also sucking on a 🍭while I was ripping up the dance floor. LOL Those were fun times. I miss Prince's presence in this world. The man was a creative genius. Our musical landscape will never be as lush or green, without him.

Prince was one real pretty man which he couldn't help it he was a beautiful looking man... those eyes are some of the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen on anybody and I really appreciate him more now more than anything he was a mad genuis musically just beyond being talented ...he was 1 in a million.

Prince was so beautiful down to earth amazing a true talent I will miss him forever the love I have for him will never quite I will always love my Prince hopefully I will get my hug from him when I see him in heaven

The Gold Experience is one of my all-time favorite albums and SO underrated!

Every time I see these or hear him. I m glad that I lived in the time and same space as him. So many great Artists have gone on. My era was Prince. Always so mysterious and unique. Miss his talent.

The fact Prince and Mayte were madly in love here makes it even better (or sadder) to watch them dance and perform together. I am forever impressed how Prince could dance, jump, make those spins etc in high heels with such enery, play on every possible instrument and being Master in it, and along all of that singing with unbelievable vocal range that rather seemed as if thousand phenomenal singers are singing not only one man. Here in this performance I believe it was the only time he lip sang (but who cares, MJ did it all time :-) ) , but his whole career the man was doing really IMPOSSIBLE things. He is undoubtedly the greatest musician genius of all time and remains unbeatable and irreplaceable not only till today but for always.💜🌟

I was very skeptical about the name change, until this performance. When he popped up from that split.. I was like "oh yea, it's on now!" Too bad WB wouldn't release The Gold Experience when Prince was wanting to. That killed all momentum he had as O(+>

Mental Steak​ it was released by WB and NPG records, almost a year after he orginally wanted it to be released. The back of case even has the WB logo on it. He wanted to release "Come" and "The Gold Experience" at the same time, but WB would not. Prince went on to promote the album regardless, and would even make references saying "The never to be released Gold Experience". By the time it was released, the war between him and WB was in full bloom, and the hype for the album had died. In my opinion, WB put this album out of print, just to stick it to Prince.
