Glad to find this vid. I have not used my Primus lanterns in several years. One problem was the flame was too strong. I had to adjust the little brass nut located in the base to control the amount of gas going up into the mantle.

I usually let it burn-off itself with the gas off.

Note to everyone, you can use coleman slip-on #51 mantles, the Primus ones are hard to find and expensive. The coleman ones can be found just about anywhere.

Poster sandman503 is exactly correct. I have used nothing but Coleman #51 mantles on my Primus and Century Tool lanterns for over twenty years. They fit and work perfectly, are easily found, and inexpensive. In fact, I just bought a dozen of them at my local sporting goods store (Academy, in Houston) and paid less than $2.25 for a two-pack ...genuine Coleman #51 mantles.

I bought an easy Primus Easy Light lantern but could not find any stores that sells Primus mantles for spare at our local area. Can I use Coleman or Peerless mantles and is so, what size is the equivalent for it in Coleman?

Coleman #51 mantles work perfectly. I've used them for many years on my old Primus/Century Tool lanterns.

Hi any idea how to put big mantle on a small gas Primus light? I bought a whole lot from China and they seems to be twice as big as the original. Thanks.

+Ivan Petkov If it is twice as big it sounds like it would be difficult to get it to work.

Stay away from those Chines mantles, the lure of 20+ mantles for $12.00 sounds great but they are shit.. Your big mantle will shrink down to the size of your pinky finger.. That's if you can get the tie string not to break first.

Yes you can, PITA but you can.. Tie the bottom down then tie a wire around the top to the lamps gas tube at that little notch that is used for the upper tie on the double tie mantles.. Double tie mantles are freaking hens teeth now!! The politically correct day care nannies have somehow deemed small backpacking gas lamps not stupid friendly for sue happy do it for me REI outdoor poser morons. LED Alien Ghost light has taken over. I like those for headlamps for sure.. I miss those Ma and Pop outdoor hang outs, with those hard core Mountain head girls with that perpetual sun burn face and white Racoon eyes from wearing Mountaineering Alpine glasses. They always could point you to what you needed not what they want to sell you because they used the shit and know all about the ins and outs of the product.

I just purchased a Micron Lantern. Within five minutes, the piezo ignition stopped working. Ten minutes later, the valve stopped working. The valve can be all the way closed or all the way open, it does not allow any gas into the tube. I'm using new high quality MSR isobutane and temperature is about 60 degrees F. Anyone have tips for me?

It’s the little nut under the burner. Unscrew the burner from its base. There is a little brass nut. Barely unscrew it a tad. You’ll hear more gas escape when you crack the valve. It’s kind of a pain to get just right.

You instruct the user "not to switch the gas on just yet" (1:21), when pre-burning the mantle . Then why does the manual of your EasyLight 2245 says the following, and I quote: "Light the mantle with a match or lighter and turn the control knob (2) and keep the burner alight for about a minute until the mantle has formed a white "egg".". Does the user need to keep the gas off or switch it on, when pre-burning the mantle?

@Buck Norris I'm surprised somebody reacted to my comment after a decade 😁 Using my decade of experience, I'd recommend to follow the manufacturers instructions. When the mantle is ashed, it is quite delicate. It can't change it's shape anymore, without desintegrating. By switching on the gas, as per manufacturers instructions, you will 'inflate' the mantle into an 'egg' and set that shape by burning it.

Be aware that Primus has no repair facilities for their gas lanterns. Mine is now useless.
