Primitive Yucca Rope Strength Test
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hesperoyucca whipplei (chaparral yucca) is a common species of yucca found in the rugged southern California hills. Yucca has been an extremely important plant for the local indigenous people for thousands of years. Yucca leaves are made of strong fibers that can be twisted and made into rope, cordage, sandals, baskets and other useful items. In this video I make ten feet (tres meters) of yucca rope and then test the strength to see if it can support my weight as I hang from a tree while holding onto just the rope.
Making this rope took longer than I anticipated. The most time-consuming task was scraping and cleaning the leaves. I spent about four hours doing that task alone. My overall production speed from harvesting the leaves to having the finished product was about one foot of rope per hour. The ten feet of rope I made took approximately ten hours to complete.

Dear Chad - just wanted to say thank you for doing what you do. I live in the UK and it's a horribly divided country at the moment. Your videos give me an oasis of kindness beauty creativity and calm (I spilled a cup of tea over my keyboard so I don't have a functioning comma any more) and I think it's important you know this. At the moment - as I write this - I'm listening to the House of Commons shouting at each other and reaching no sensible ideas. But I'm also lucky enough to watch Chad Zuber doing something beautiful and simple and good as a human being. Please never stop what you're doing - you're a balm to the human soul.

Your an awsome man Mr. Chad...
Yucca plants are considered dangerous in Australia. Especially their tiny sharp points on the tip of the leaves. My Aunt accidentally pieced her eardrum when she tried to pull some dead foliage and lost her balance. She was semi conscious for about 20 minutes before a neighbour found her. At least you can make good use of the leaves Chad. Enjoyed your video. Thank you.
I have to know, what grants you the ability to do all this? Do you have a decent source of income, a family, maybe pets? Or are you living solo in this hut? I'm genuinely curious as you seem like a really down to earth, capable dude. Keep doing your thing Chad 👍

Hey Chad, I heard the stems (which is like a hard wood) from that harvested sisal, were used by the Appache indians as staff for flint Knapp spear points and it makes for a good hand drill. Have you tried that yet?

I'll just admit it. I'm INSANELY jealous...haha. The flood waters here are receding slower than anticipated, so my outdoor life will have to wait a little longer. But, it's a good thing so the rivers don't overflow their banks.
That is some serious rope you made there! I wonder what you're going to do with this newfound tool!

0:38 Damn that's a lot of these plants in Russia. I remember in my childhood I was toring them, which was really hard because they are sharp as hell, and I was making a weapon, putting two wide leaves one on the other and sticking them to a stick. I was slicing leaves, plants, flowers, branches... The goddamn thing was so sharp I was cutting myself to blood almost every time I played with it. But I didn't give a shit cause IT IS A SPEAR DAMN IT, IT IS SUPER COOL! Still don't understand how did I survive my childhood...
The sotol you passed in the beginning of the video has large stems sticking out from the center. I saw Ray Mears use that for a hand drill fire making kit. He said the Apache/Navajo use it as staff for spears. Is this that same wood?
@ChadZuberAdventures
