Primer Pen or Acetone? | The results will surprise you!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hey guys! In this video we switch things up and do a little experiment based of your suggestions! We test whether or not PRIMER PENS manufactures provide for applying their vanes are really worth it. We put them to the test against ACETONE and ALCOHOL as well as show what happens when you use nothing at all! This was definitely am interesting experiment and I truly was not expecting some of the results. Thank you guys so much for the suggestion, I hope you learned something and enjoyed watching.
Happy hunting, Hang N Hunt.

I give you props for doing this video. Good job and presence on cam. Peace ✌
Thanks for making this video and for toasting those vanes for our education! I appreciate it so much! I like how unbiased you are and made the tests fair across the board!

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Its awesome to hear you liked the video!
Great test dude. Good job on the video
The primer is just a mixture of acetone and another ingredient (I forget the name) but PVC pipe primer can also be applied with a Qtip with very similar results to the primer pen. In Canada the primer pens are 14.99 whereas a can of pvc primer that will likely last a lifetime of fletching is around 6.99.
Great video, thank you!
I found this info really helpful. Looks to me like regular acetone is likely more then enough strength for an arrow build. I do wonder if over the long term they weather and heat if the acetone will fail faster then the primer pen.
Thanks for the video, very interesting!
Great video bro!
I've been using acetone for vane prep for 30 years. I've shot arrows clean through plywood and never had one come off. Is it the best choice? I don't know but it's always been 100% for me.
Thanks u for making this video I know what to buy
Great video! Thx!
👍.....Great video.....
This isn't my account, but here is the deal. acetone is in the primer pen; they are trying to get you to buy a name. doesn't matter what company it is. primer pens have the acetone in them as it is the catalyst for the glue. It heats the glue up and basically melts the vane and the glue together. I use it on all kinds of vanes and I treat them all because even the ones they say are pretreated, will tear off if not treated. There could be another agent in the primer pen, but as you saw the acetone did the job. Q tip acetone and then dots of glue you dont have to spread the glue along the whole vane. Test it out throw some glue in something add acetone it hardens in seconds. if your glue is bad it will be gummy instead of hardened

Do you recommend gel glue or thin super glue? Along with the acetone
Great video. Looks like I'm buying the pen from now on

I've been using denatured alcohol with the gel adhesive. Works pretty good with Blazer vanes. I bought some AAE trad vanes and it's recommended to use the max bond and pen combo. That's how I ended up finding this video

My fusion ii vanes do not like acetone, but alcohol prep has been rock soild
Thank you.
I could have saved you all the time of the video. Clean shafts with acetone. Wipe shaft with arrow wipe or alcohol after the acetone. Put the vane in your clamp and keep your fingers off the base especially after you clean it. Use the AAE or TAC pen on the base of the vane. You can also use a Q tip and pvc primmer instead of a pen but again only 1 swipe. Apply glue, dab on paper 2-4 times Place clamp in the fletcher on the arrow. Hold pressure for 30-40 seconds. Remove and reapply the next vane. You won’t be able to pull your vanes off by hand or otherwise make sure when you are holding your clamp down it’s where it’s supposed to be. Nothing has moved or slid. I use a Bitzenberger and a Last Chance and the process is the same. I fletch 4 vanes 3 degrees Left offset with a straight clamp. I feel like I can apply more pressure with the Bitz. I am using TAC glue on TAC vanes and AAE vanes. Gonna try the Bob Smith stuff shortly. Just to see because it’s a lot cheaper.

@szannino1 I uses bohning blazers with the bob Smith glue. Quick wipe of the shaft with acetone and throw some glue on the vane and stick it. they stick okay I guess, one started peeling on the leading edge tho

The AAE and TAC vanes are a urethane. Buy 3M adhession promoter 86A in wipes or cans for the primer.

Acetone works as a glue remover. How it strenght the arrow build when applied it with super glue/glue? TQ
@HANGNHUNTOUTDOORS

Hey great question! The acetone removes a film on the base of the vane that the glue cant stick to. Then after the acetone evaporates you apply the super glue for a very strong bond.

@@HANGNHUNTOUTDOORS will acetone or IPA (70 or 99%) damage the vanes? If not, i will try to apply acetone or IPA with glue. Save more

@@supercat9350 As long and you use a small amount on a q tip it should damage the vanes. I would recommend acetone as it works slightly better
Good video. So I shouldn't use acetone in the house as it bothers my wife (fumes/smell). That raises the question, is the primer pen smelly?

Try gorilla glu ma bruh. Good video.

Lol. Man all this is a waist of time. I built my own axis match grade arrows... no pen prep Lol no acetone. I didn't whipe the shafts or the vains.. just straight up gorilla glu.. my arrows still hav3 all there vains. Gorilla glu Works 💪.
