I think it's hard to say if you'll be able to hear big z in "normal" events, purely because he got so good at these "unconventional" events because that's what he needed to be good at. If there were more conventional events more often when he was in his prime, I'm sure he would have dominated them as well.

  • @thelionofgod

Definitely true. Strongman has waves of being lighter or heavier, more regimented or more varied. Z competed long enough to span multiple eras, but certainly the frequency he competed and variety of events meant he wouldn't have been able to specialise as some guys now can. If you're doing one show a month for 10 months of the year, there's a limit to the specialised prep you can do. Training blocks will focus on being a great all-rounder, and then maybe you get a few weeks at a time to hone upcoming events. Nowadays big name competitors need only compete maybe 4 times a year, perhaps peaking twice. In a mystery events show hosted on zero notice, prime Z and Brian would do stonkingly well.

I'm a fanboy, I truly believe Zydrunas is the strongest man who ever lived. I think what you were hinting at with things people didn't expect is the man seemed to have an inexhaustible tank as far as oxygen. The 03-06 Arnolds he upped his axle for reps each time, just ridiculous. His keg run in the ESM 2013 and Fingers run in the 09 WSM showed that as well as a tank, the dude could MOVE. I will grant, tho, that the field these days is so much more stacked than it ever has been. As Rogue got involved and things got more standardized and less circus sideshow, some freaks have really been coming out. Matching power and speed. You're blazing a trail of kills, bud, I'm excited to see your career grow!

Big Z was a much better strongman than Pudzianowski, but suffered in the WSM contests because through Pudzian's career they were much more focussed on carries / repeat effort lifts. That's why Z dominated the max effort strength oriented Arnold's while Pudzian couldn't even make the podium. I wish Z had stuck it out with the WSM contests instead of moving with the IFSA split though, he would have had the outright record for most titles. He is the GOAT Strongman, even if it isn't through the most WSM titles.

Zydrunas Savickas is what happens when a young man finds his true calling in life, then proceeds to commit fully to that path for 30 years and without compunction. Zydrunas Savickas was NEVER going to do Triathlon or MMA. His most spectacular public lift was 725 Pound squats for 15 Reps with gas left in the tank. Watch the finals of 2014 World's Strongest Man. Mitch Hooper is more of an athletic PolyMath, with a diversity of great achievements in different aspects of life.

Big Z, though was unstoppable in his prime, still had his faults just like all of us. On a bad day for Z, he was hard to beat, and on a good day, he was unstoppable. I firmly believe he was the best to have ever lived. If you continue the way you are, I really do think you can challenge that. It’s not just brute strength, it’s intelligence as well. I recall seeing somewhere the Big Z trains mainly by himself or at least he used to. Always thought that was interesting. Can’t help but wonder if he would have been stronger with a training partner.

Giants Live modern style show would give you a chance say 30 per cent. But WSM against prime Big Z , Brian, Hafthor, Martins, Oleskii , Tom, Mitch, Trey, Evan, who knows. WSM 2024 perhaps will be the most competitive ever. Of course no Big Z, Brian or Hafthor but the rest if all fit will be very interesting to watch.

Big Z's trophies have won trophies of their own. There's so much metal piling up at his place that the earth's center of gravity is shifting, and it'll start rotating around his collection. That's where climate change is coming from. Now if we put enough trophies in Canada, maybe it'll help.

Mitch to do a better comparison do it when he first started his career like you, when Marius P was handing him his ass on a regular basis, take Marius 9 years WSM 5 time's, 61 inter events 43 wins that's the GOAT at least for me

Many consider Big Z as yhe best off all time. He had insane longevity and won tons of comps. His most impressive is 8 Arnolds and 4 Worlds. I honestly still believe he had the strongest shoulders out of any strongman ever. Yes Iron Biby broke his log record but Z definitely had more in him. Remember that Iron Biby trains only one lift the whole year and only focuses on the record. Z trained everything and still hit rediculous numbers. If he had a whole year to do nothing but log in his prime I believe he would have gone to rediculous mind boggling numbers. That 205 for 4 reps was proof of his shoulder oressing abilities.
