Pride of Hampshire | Full Tour | Portsmouth to Cherbourg

This video, converted from my old VHS camcorder footage, was filmed aboard P&O European Ferries Portsmouth to Cherbourg vessel Pride of Hampshire less than three weeks prior to her withdrawal.
Passenger facilities are located on four decks:
Deck 7 offered cabins, bureau de change and reclining seats.
Deck 8 offered a bar, casino, children's playroom, shop and dining areas.
Deck 9 offered exterior decks and a Club Class Lounge
Deck 10 offered an exterior deck, cinema and lounge
Pride of Hampshire entered service in 1975 for Townsend Thoresen for their Southampton UK to Le Havre France route before being relocated to Portsmouth.
In 1987 she was registered under P&O European Ferries and renamed Pride of Hampshire operating to the same French port until 1994 when she operated too Cherbourg, France.
She remained on the route until 2002 before being sold to Comanav Morocco as Pride of Al Salam 2 to operate between , Sete and Nador.
She was renamed Oujda in 2002 and in 2006 she operated services from Safaga Egypt.
In February 2010 she was sold to Indian breakers

This is great, travelled on her and her sisters 10’s of times. Po certainly got their monies worth. Seemed to have a strong righting movement, that is in moderate seas rolled, and seemed worse than other ferries as the recovery from each roll was quite quick. If p and o had invested properly and built proper replacements like Brittany they might still be operating profitably there now. Carry on the excellent work. Also the front observation deck was great.

These super vikings kicked off my love of ferry travel as we used them each year for our summer holidays, both as P&O and Townsend Thoresen. I've never found very good photos of the interior, so I was really excited to see this pop up a few days ago. I wasn't disappointed, even the rattle brought back some memories! Keep the videos coming!

I can't tell you how happy I am to see this video! I had many great trips onboard POH with my Dad, but I didn't take many photos and certainly no videos. Thank you for uploading it, bought back many great memories. The last trip I had onboard her was in August 2002, and I do have a photo of the new POC berthed in the same dock - so I am guessing our trips were relatively close to one another.

I think you are the person who has done most to document the interior of ferries. I buy a ferry publication book, (after paying extortionate shipping and waiting many days for delivery, and the interior pictures are very few and far between.

Hello. Thank you. My archive of ferry interiors is truly massive. For example, taking the Pride of Burgundy, I travelled on her from (almost literally day 1) and comprehensively photographed her interior. After every annual refit I would go aboard and take more photos from the same angle so, you can literally see how she changed over the decades until the day she was scrapped! This is the same for many other ships. I also comprehensively filmed the interiors and recorded footage to VHS. Until now I have been unable to convert it to digital for KZread. I wish to create a legacy for future generations so they can see the interiors of old ships. Stay tuned. MANY more videos to come... It was not too many decades back when Brittany ferries had second hand ferries on Portsmouth routes , so a ferry like this was considered ok those years ago. Now only Brittany ferries out of Portsmouth and much newer ferries , with more arriving soon . P&O a ferry company in decline. How long will it be before P&O ferries disappear altogether I wonder ?

I was so excited to see this pop up! Very fond of these ungainly old jumboised Super Vikings and there's almost no footage on KZread of them. I went to uni in Southampton in the late 90s and always had a 'free' on a Wednesday. So whilst my cohort were out getting hammered, I would enjoy a day trip with my car for the princely sum of £26! Mid week winter night sailings were always deserted! Heaven! Completely empty upper aft reclining seat lounge. One or two of those large P&O blankets may or may not have found their way off the ship. 😅 Forgot how much parts of her squeaked and rattled! Like a tin tray full of crockery! Always loved the retro prints of the classic P&O liners dotted around the ship and the large ferry prints on the the upper deck by the weather forecast. One thing that always irritating me though and I have absolutely no idea why they pronounced it like this as 'Cherbourg' is the easiest french port name to get correct....the captains always seemed to refer to it as CherbErg....where the hell is the 'E' in 'bourg'? 🤣

Hi. Thanks for watching! It certainly is! The original Isle of Innisfree/Pride of Cherbourg/Kaitaki. I have a considerable amount of footage of her as the Pride of Cherbourg shortly after being introduced. At the time P&O had done little refurbishment therefore, she was pretty much still an IF vessel. Stay tuned to my channel as I will upload it soon.....
