    @@mikekohnholdt7670 Oleg won the UFC 6 tournament. Here he caught Gary with some good shots early, but Gary was able to take them no problem. When Oleg got dropped the first time, most fighters would have been finished at that point. He showed great heart to continue but it was just a matter of time before Gary would catch him again.

    Today's UFC is not even close to Pride FC of those days... It was so nice to see different styles and a lot of almost clean techniques! Sambo vs Karate, Judo vs Muay Thai etc... And what we have today? MMA vs MMA....

    I have to say that Stephen Quadros and Bas Rutten are amazing commentators that really know how to break down the fights. I'm surprised that neither of them are still working today as commentators for Pro Wrestling or MMA.

    That ref during the Renzo Shoji fight was putting in work. Good for him. During the third fight with the giant australian Nathan Jones and the sumo, Nathan has been in a number of films such as Troy and the awesomely choreographed Ong Bak.

    Crazy memories, I actually got into pride before ufc. A old friend of mine was watching pride and I started watching it with him. Didn't get into the ufc till ufc 37.5

    ah, the commentators in the old days. they likely figured nobody was watching, outside of japan. they said gary goodridge was the world arm wrestling champion. and that he had beaten 1000 competitors in one hour. amazing. he beat 16.66 opponents every minute, nonstop, for one hour. so 3.6 seconds per opponent, with no time to spare in between opponents. amazing feat.

    I remember watching these fights and Pride in general live. Its amazing given that the best in the world fought for this organization. and watching it now, after all these years, to see that the skill level of today's fighters are light years ahead of these great vets. Really have to appreciate the evolution MMA has gone through.

    A lot of the early pride fights are heavily ‘pro wrestling’ in influence. The best fighters of that time were pretty similar to then best of later years

    Oh it was amazing. For a period of time after Pride folded, basically every single UFC champion was a former Pride fighter.

    Open weight classes lol..old school MMA was 100 times more dangerous than today's... which is why many didn't have long careers... warriors 💯 This was almost 30 years ago the style of commentary and expert fight analysis from Steven Kudrus and Bas Rutten is even now way better than alot of the commentary we see today, Bas a true combat legend in every sense of the word 💯..

    It's funny, because the commentary wasn't live at this point. It was recorded in post-production. So they already knew that Taktarov was okay.

    @@ericmotta1 Yeah, the commentary for the first several events was recorded after the fact. Sometimes you can see Bas Rutten in the ring, like when he's in Mark Kerr's corner for some fights, and he's still talking on commentary at the same time 😄

    Gary Goodridge said Pride 1 event was 90 percent fixed. Pride 2 was 70 percent, and by Pride 10, 10 percent was fixed. So Interesting to watch it again, knowing most of these fights were fixed, and you can see now how some of the fighters didn't even resist submission attempts.

    I can't even remember the channel it was on now, but I watched a video recently on the history of match fixing in early Japanese MMA and saw that clip there, so watched this trying to figure out which of the fights were legit. That head kick on the ground couldn't have been pre-planned, but most everything else, in viewing with that historical hindsight, was pretty suspect.

    Goodridge was massively exaggerating. He's also suffering from dementia (seriously). I wouldn't take his word as gospel. There were a few fixed fights, but it's nowhere near what he claimed.

    How they fixed some of the fights was telling losing opponent wrong opponent for 2-3month training camp and last minute tell who they fighting. Winner knew all that time who their real opponent was.

    The finish looked fake. Kazunari was quite obviously setting up an armbar, but Dixon made absolutely no attempt to resist it. And the punches thrown to Dixon's body right before the armbar... those looked like pro wrestling punches.

    My coach spent time with a black belt who said most of the Japanese fighters went in thinking they were wrestling a work. At no point did they imagine body lock, trip, flail and death.

    That restart in the Rickson Gracie fight didn't make any sense. So if Takada grabbed the rope in the corner like that anytime they would have restarted it over and over? Was that a ref mistake or a rule at the time?

    PRIDE1とかレベル低過ぎて全く面白くないんですけど、、、 高田なんてロープつかんでTD阻止した以外、なーーんにもしてないやん。 高田にだったら、マジでブレイキングダウンの人でも勝てるだろう。

    Nah. He might have been an ace in jiu jitsu but in MMA he bailed. He knew he would've gotten knocked the fudge out. Hence why his only two bouts in Prode was with a Pro-Wrestler...twice. Should've given him Igor Vovchanchyn, Mark Kerr (he was offered) or even the pre-Gracie Killer Sakuraba and see if he could really hang in there. At least some of the other Gracies went in there with real competition.

    jep, that would be great. rickson vs igor. i would have been an interesting match. igor was the champion and killer in the pre fedor, nuigera area. what does rickson with igors ko power in front?
