    It's true, people will come for you. Imagine you're the guy that didn't prepare hardly at all but you've got a good hunting rifle and 2 kids. You have nothing to trade but the rifle, and that would be a death sentence in itself. You know who has food, but those guys aren't giving it out like it's a soup kitchen and they're very wary of strangers. You look into the hollow, hungry eyes of your children and you know that they're going to die if something doesn't change. You think about the food and how unfair it is that they have enough to trade but they won't even spare a morsel for your kids. You pick up your rifle. "Stay here, stay quiet, don't come out for anyone but me, and I'll be back...." Now Mr Barter has a scope looking for his head all day from the ridge - maybe more than one.

I have wanted to have a "community" of like-minded people around me, but alas, I seem to be on my own. I think I am wisest in my situation to be as you say, a "grey woman". In crisis situations, there are benefits to going unnoticed and blending in.

    @ThePrepperAlmanac

    6 күн бұрын

    @@sherrycaudill5747 Oh yes! And I came across this info as well! Having an extra set of reading glasses is a good idea for a prepper scenario for a few reasons: Visibility is crucial in an emergency. Being able to read maps, gauges, or instructions clearly during a crisis can be vital. Eyeglasses are fragile and easily broken. Having a spare ensures you still have functional vision if your primary glasses break. Reading glasses are relatively inexpensive and compact. You can easily store a spare in a first aid kit, bug-out bag, or other survival gear. Here are some specific types of reading glasses to consider for preparedness: Multiple Diopters: If you don't know your exact prescription strength, consider a multi-diopter pack that offers a range of magnification levels. Adjustable Focus: Adjustable reading glasses allow you to fine-tune the magnification for your specific needs. Shatterproof Lenses: Polycarbonate lenses are more resistant to breaking than traditional glass lenses. Compact Case: Look for a pair that comes with a compact case for easy storage. Additional considerations: If you wear prescription glasses, consider getting a spare pair made specifically for emergencies. Contact lens wearers should also pack a backup pair of glasses and solution, or talk to their eye doctor about switching to daily disposable lenses for preparedness.

    Yep! I found this info too. Bleach (sodium hypochlorite solution) does degrade over time. Here's a breakdown of its shelf life: Concentrated bleach: Loses effectiveness as a disinfectant after about 1 year. After 6 months: Bleach starts to degrade and become less effective. Here are some tips to maximize the shelf life of your bleach: Store it in a cool, dark place (between 50°F and 70°F) in a sealed container. Avoid extreme temperatures (both hot and cold). If you're unsure about the age of your bleach, it's always best to err on the side of caution and replace it. You can often find the manufacturing date on the bottle, which can help you determine its age.

The shelf life of powdered bleach, also known as bleach powder or hair lightening powder, can vary depending on the brand and storage conditions. Generally, unopened powdered bleach can last for up to a year under ideal conditions. However, some sources say it can last even longer, up to 3 years. Here are some tips to extend the shelf life of your powdered bleach: Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep it in its original container. Make sure the container is tightly sealed after each use. If you're unsure whether your powdered bleach is still good, it's always best to err on the side of caution and throw it out. Here are some signs that your powdered bleach may have expired: It has a strong chlorine odor. It has changed color. It is no longer effective at lightening hair.

Easy if you catch 6 rabbits (even pidgeons) you will have (almost guaranteed) have caught both sexs with the end result being you have a breeding colony and secured a protein source, you have reduced your exposure to danger or injury since you won't be going out competing with others who are also hungry and maybe stupid... Just a suggestion

    Salt is cheap (dependent on the supply chain. and we cannot produce it at home.) It is critical for our health, and also that of livestock, especially in hot weather to prevent dehydration, Salt is also used in meat curing, tanning, flavor and preserving foods without refrigeration., I recommend salt with iodine since in a food crisis, we will have limited options to obtain nutrients. A great barter item. Pepper corns would be a welcome source and great barter item. Pepper corns maintain freshness longer.

    @@juliefall2892 Exactly! And I came across this additional information. Black pepper is an excellent addition to your prepper stockpile. Here's why: Long Shelf Life: Black pepper has an almost indefinite shelf life when stored properly in a cool, dark place. This makes it a reliable seasoning in emergency situations. Flavor Enhancement: It's a versatile seasoning that can enhance the taste of almost any dish, making bland survival foods more palatable. Potential Medicinal Benefits: While not a substitute for medical treatment, black pepper has been used traditionally for various ailments, including digestive issues and respiratory problems. Additional Uses for Black Pepper: Preservative: It has antimicrobial properties that can help extend the shelf life of other foods. Insect Repellent: Some sources suggest that black pepper can deter insects, though this is not definitively proven. First Aid: While not a primary treatment, black pepper can be used as a temporary measure to help staunch minor bleeding when bandages aren't available. Remember: While black pepper offers multiple benefits, it's essential to prioritize proper medical treatment and hygiene in emergency situations.

    First off there are things you never barter away…ammo, firearms, medical supplies, food, and fuel. This first item shown is an electric air pump…only good is you have a source of electricity. A hand pump or foot pump would be more reasonable…aluminum foil is a waist…you can only reuse it a couple of times…and how much would you need to make a shelter…what would be good if having traps and 550 cord, duct tape, booze and pot, matches and candles, cheap rain ponchos, shoe laces, small sewing kits, personal hygiene items like soap, hair brushes, deodorant, tooth paste and tooth brushes. Clothing like, gloves, socks, tee shirts, windbreaker type jackets stocking caps. Plastic utensils, water purification tables or life straws.

    You should never store flour for more than three months, because the mould that grows on it will kill you. Also, it is highly explosive. Instead, store grains in specialist vacuum packaging to ensure it is mould-free. You forgot to include condoms. Besides the obvious, condoms are very versatile and can carry as much water as a bucket, and weight less. They can be used in conjunction with charcoal (add a layer of gravel and clay) to filter water. They are also essential if bathing in rivers or ponds that may contain parasites. Also feminine products. The pads make excellent wound dressings (their original purpose) and cleaning sponges. They are a top priority and will be a highly valuable bartering item to have in your stash, even if you don't use them or have ladies in your household. Excellent list. Great idea. Thanks for adding that. For anybody seeing this comment, here is some additional information regarding rocket stoves. A rocket stove is a great tool for preppers for a number of reasons. Here's why: Fuel efficient: Rocket stoves can burn a variety of small fuels, such as twigs, sticks, leaves, and even pine cones, very efficiently. This is important for preppers who may be facing a situation where they have limited access to traditional fuel sources like propane or natural gas. Portable: Many rocket stoves are small and lightweight, making them easy to transport and use in a variety of locations. There are even ones that can be made from readily available materials. Durable: Rocket stoves can be made from a variety of materials, including metal, bricks, and even cob. This makes them very durable and long-lasting. Quick heating: Rocket stoves can heat up quickly and efficiently, which is important for boiling water or cooking food.

I have a P-38 on my keychain for opening cans and a side cutter manual can opener for home use. A side cutter opener will not put metal into the food. Never, ever use charcoal indoors for cooking. Raw onion bound onto burns is releiving and heals miraculously , I got burnt on my stomach with boiling water , raw onion saved me. I left it on overnight .the blisters even went away overnight. Egg white no yolk at all, painted on sunburn will take the sun burn out keep reapplying when it dries out until the burn is gone at least a good hour. Egg white on any burns . Do not use any oil on a burn until after the heat has gone out of the burn, otherwise the oil will keep the heat in the burn Cut onions into flat s like rings but don't separate. So you can lay then flat on the burn. If your nose is running allergy or cold flu, put onion rings into a cup with boiled hot water , sip this it will dry up the nose. If you have no antihistamines it's instant relief.

    So many do not know how to take antibiotics without causing more problems.

  • @ThePrepperAlmanac

    @ThePrepperAlmanac

    6 күн бұрын

    Exactly! Antibiotics are powerful drugs and taking them incorrectly can be dangerous. Here's why: Wrong Dosage: Taking the wrong amount can be ineffective or lead to side effects. Incorrect Type: Using the wrong antibiotic won't treat your specific infection. Resistance: Misuse can contribute to antibiotic resistance, a growing public health concern. Here's the safest course of action: Read the Label: If you have leftover antibiotics with instructions, follow them carefully. Seek Medical Attention: It's crucial to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis and appropriate antibiotic prescription. They can assess your infection's severity and prescribe the right antibiotic at the correct dosage. First Aid Kits and Antibiotics: Antibiotic ointments for minor skin infections might be included in some first-aid kits. However, these are for topical application, not ingestion. First-aid kits are meant for immediate care needs like cuts, scrapes, and minor burns, not treatment of infections. Here's what you can do in a first-aid situation: Clean the wound: Wash the injured area with clean water and apply a sterile dressing. Manage pain: Use over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen according to the label instructions. Monitor the wound: Watch for signs of infection like redness, swelling, or pus. If the wound worsens or doesn't improve, or if you suspect an infection, see a doctor as soon as possible. They can properly diagnose the issue and prescribe the right treatment, including antibiotics if necessary.

    I didn't here dewormer

  • @ThePrepperAlmanac

    @ThePrepperAlmanac

    4 күн бұрын

    You can stockpile it, but I did come across this info re: dewormer. In a prepper survival situation, the benefits of stockpiling dewormer are likely minimal for a couple of reasons. Most dewormers target specific types of worms. Without diagnosis, you won't know what kind of dewormer you need, and using the wrong one can be ineffective or even harmful. Even if you use the right dewormer, it only treats an existing infection. It won't prevent future infections. Proper sanitation and hygiene are the best ways to prevent parasitic infections. In a survival situation, focusing on these will be more effective than relying on dewormer. There are some situations where dewormer might be useful, but they're less likely in a true survival situation. If you know you or your family are susceptible to certain parasites, having a specific dewormer on hand might be a good idea. However, consultation with a medical professional is still advisable. If you're prepping for a situation where you'll be reliant on livestock for food, then having dewormer for your animals might be more important.
