Prevent Duplicate Entries in Excel (2 Simple Ways)
If you are doing data entry in Excel and wondering how to stop Excel from allowing you to enter duplicate entries, this video will give you the answer.
In this video, I will show you two simple methods to prevent duplicate entries in Excel.
00:00 Intro
00:16 Prevent Duplicate Entries Using Data Validation
04:38 Prevent Duplicate Entries Using Conditional Formatting
While the Data Validation method would stop you from entering duplicate values in a column, the Conditional Formatting method would visually highlight and show you whenever you enter a value that is already present in the column.

Great video! How could I change the formula to only check a certain range? Perhaps C10:H50 for example? I tend to have "names" scattered along a block of rows and columns and have duplicates, so I would like to prevent duplicates using your first method if possible. Thanks.

@@npc2856 You need to first select the range (say C10:H50 in this example), and then use the same formula. So for C10:H50, you can use the formula =COUNTIF(C10:H50,C10)=1
