Beautiful Yorkshire

I'm doing a little "self-care staycation" this weekend, and this was the PERFECT kick off. Thanks so much for being here and sharing your lovely Mom, Yorkshire, books and day trips with us.

Ilkley is my home away from home, and seeing you two enjoying yourselves in it brought tears to my eyes (as well as my mum's, as we watched it together). Thank you from an antsy Canadian who longs to be back in Yorkshire! And, you two always find the most wonderful goodies. 🥰 Hooray for the sunshine!

Lovely! I am so homesick for England. Every time I go there I have such a feeling of homecoming, even though I was born in the USA (my father was English). Thank you for sharing the beautiful countryside, the bookstore, tea shop and your wonderful finds. Such a treat for me...I felt I was there with you!

I promised my daughter if she continued getting good grades through high school and graduated I would take her to Europe. She loves quiet countryside’s, vintage things, and history. The scenery in your video’s is something I think she will love.

Lovely! I had to find Ilkley on the map ...Google... to orientate myself, it looks charming. What a bounty of goods! Do you ever restrain yourself or think no better not get that? Or do you give books away? Do you live by this adage, “As book collectors know all too well: We only regret our economies, never our extravagances.” ― Michael Dirda. I have come to that place in life where I have become very selective, always trying for hardbacks and classics, or those books that my children may never be able to obtain that hold delight and lessons for life. Space for books is becoming a challenge:)

Thank you, Miranda and Donna! This is the countryside I grew up in, I felt quite emotional seeing it so beautifully filmed. I love seeing other people's charity shop bargains - the Poole plate and the tin, in particular, caught my eye. Charity shops are always a feature of my days out, and this week I was thrilled to find a 1951 hardback of Margery Sharp's Lise Lillywhite. It had no dustjacket and the pages are quite foxed, but, hey, it was only £1.25! Hope you continue to enjoy this gloriously sunny bank holiday.

So lovely to see you both being so happy. And the charity shops’ haul was brilliant!

What a delightfully perfect day!! Some fantastic finds, and I believe I gasped out loud when I saw the Sundae 😊 I hope it was as delicious as it looked. The footage of the stone walls, the sheep, the lambs and of the rolling green fields was truly tonic for the soul. Can't wait for future expeditions by Donna and yourself!

Lovely things from lovely Ilkley. You might want to put Grove Rare books on your list for a future trip. It is the most gorgeous stone bookshop in the equally gorgeous Bolton Abbey, not too far away- about 15 minutes or so- from Ilkley. Hope you enjoyed your omelette and wine!

Looks like a lovely day! I head straight for the dishes and pottery in second hand shops. The dishes and vase are beautiful - great finds!

I'm so grateful to you for introducing me to Little Toller publishers. One of my favorite book purchases from last year is The Farmer's Year. It's the perfect marriage of drawing and text, such an economy of lines and words. Thank you for taking us along on such a beautiful spring day. My only complaint is not being able to enjoy a real taste of Bettys!

Downloaded Dear Mrs Bird audio book through my library app after watching this, really enjoying it so far! Will have to look out for her next book too :)

Thank you for taking us with you and your mum! Beautiful countryside! And great finds. I have the same tin, how fun! It’s from Brittany in France. It as the typical motifs of the pottery made in Quimper, a town in Britanny. It’s used to sell the famous breton biscuits😊 😘🌸

I recognised the motifs on the tin immediately as I have a plate with exactly the same ones which I bought in Brittany over 30 years ago.

one of my favourite Louisa May Alcott books is "under the lilacs!"

Loved the snowdrop cup and saucer and a great book haul. Betty’s is always a treat. There’s a nice one in Northallerton and Harrogate of course.

What a fun vlog! I loved coming along with you through the countryside - it's so beautiful! Our lilacs are just ending here and New Hampshire. Those are my favorite flowers :) Really fun seeing the book shopping and your desserts looked lovely! (I adore anything with lemon.) Donna's hair cut is really flattering. Hi Miranda. My mum was a big fan of that china and we visited the portmeirion village a number of times. I think the way to pronounce it is port -merry -on. Loved today's video.

Your dresses are orgeous! Love the tablecloth! I always look for books at thrift stores..which are our charity shops! I recently found 2 Tasha Tudor hardback books and was delighted with them. The tea shop was so nice too!! You had a lovely day!!
