She transitions elegantly from classical repertoire to popular if her rendition of the Bernstein/Sondheim "I Feel pretty" is any example. A rare gift, she's another Stephanie Blythe.

Please, please, please. Pretty's voice is much prettier than that of Callas! Her top is clean, pure, not strident. Time will show whether she will be as great an actress and interpreter. But the voice is far and away better.

Callas, strident?! ... undoubtedly some of them suffer from hyperacusis ... ;-) I never had to modulate the treble listening to the Callas ... but, I was'nt in the hall ... :-) The stamps aren't the same, that's all. For Pretty I agree that voice, technique and especially the tessitura are absolutely fantastic, phenomenal, close to perfection if it exists ... It remains just to grant the theatrical and emotional expression to the libretto... Anyway, Maria Callas' stamp will remain what it has been: unique. At the end of the interview she says that the foreign language she most liked to discover for the opera is French! ... I'm french. :-)

But her home language is Zulu, which although linguistically far removed from romantic languages , shares with Italian some similarities, with many open vowels,,no diphthongs to speak of, and a lilting quality easily transposed to music.

@@stephencostan207 If you can do that, then you are fortunate. Unfortunately, I can not. Her name is not just silly. It is wrong. In the last ten years I have fallen under the spell of a pop-singer. A German pop singer. She has a perfect voice (within the genre). But I could not call her "pretty". That is not sufficient. She is astoundingly, spectacularly, preposterously, beautiful. If her parents had been of the turn of mind to name her for the way they hoped she would turn out, then she would be known as: "Astoundingly, spectacularly, preposterously beautiful, Fischer". But they named her "Helene" instead. By the way, I am not an interloper in this conversation. I am paul sutton, using a pseudonym.

@@stephencostan207 If you can do that, then you are fortunate. Unfortunately, I can not. Her name is not just silly. It is wrong. In the last ten years I have fallen under the spell of a pop-singer. A German pop singer. She has a perfect voice (within the genre). But I could not call her "pretty". That is not sufficient. She is astoundingly, spectacularly, preposterously, beautiful. If her parents had been of the turn of mind to name her for the way they hoped she would turn out, then she would be known as: "Astoundingly, spectacularly, preposterously beautiful, Fischer". But they named her "Helene" instead. By the way, I am not an interloper in this conversation. I am paul sutton, using a pseudonym.

The only bad aspect is that a lot of words are sung with a bad pronunciation :(
