Its been awhile since I canned. Your video helped remind me how to cut the quarters and get the backbone out without sacrificing meat. Thanks!

I was just saying yesterday, we're paying like 3-4$ per lb. for thighs, they had leg quarters for .89 cents a lb. It only makes sense to do exactly what you're doing.

Great video. I do my own deboning and canning to save money. Just me, so I'm not fussy about the looks. But you just showed me a better way to do it. My daughter uses the broth I can. Thank you for sharing 😊

I was wondering how long should your chicken last on the shelf. How many years or months?

  • @pawpawjohnshomesteading1004

I believe it is 2 to 5 years, but always go by the safety guidelines. If you google "shelf stable food safety usda," you will find a full list to go by.

want to put chicken through a grinder, bone, skin and it comes out like ground chicken, never even knowing it has bone or skin, then I want to can it for my dogs. Do I need to worry about the fat content?

Pretty sure it would be a good idea to trim as much fat off as you can. If it turns out to be too much with just the skin, it should be at the top of the jar after canning. Especially if your grinding the chicken. Good luck with your canning.

How many meat chickens? Did you have the deplucker? I found it easier than the way my grandmother methods. But I will do it if needed. God bless Paw John.
