@@faker3033 class act? basically saying Ding won by lottery in tiebreak ... give me a break. he is bitter he lost and it shows. He could also give some credit to Ding for coming back many times in the match and capitalizing on Ian's mistake, where he was not able to do so himself.... best man won. Championship match like this is a marathon and Ding had better stamina and focus.

Ding is so humble and calm after winning the title, very unusual but also very admirable. He played very enterprisingly, which was great to see. Maybe his coolness when playing was what helped him win.

Thank you Ding and Nepo, you have given us a world championship match with a fighting spirit that makes us proud to be chessplayers!

Ding is the champion here and he deserves it especially for the risk he took in the last game when everyone thought it was a draw and he went for gain with rook g6. This whole match was played on this to me. It means Ian is also a amazing player who should get the credit and the fame his level of play and personality deserves.

What makes it so hard for GMs when they lose is that they remember every game and every move. Ding really fought hard and kept his composure.

That was an incredibly exciting world championship! What a performance and show from both competitors. Congratulations to Ding! Ian is a true testament to strength and determination. Chess is a brutal game when you are emotionally invested.

Ding is a madman. He had been extremely unlucky for the last few years and he lost his form. Then he was given one chance and wrote history. He's not Magnus, but don't underestimate my boy.

Ding showed he's one of the GOATs and a great fighter. Only the 17th in history to achieve this title. It was an 18 game match so no one can say it's not deserved, it wasn't a one game coin toss, this was hard fought all the way, ending with an iconic victory with the black pieces.

Heartbroken for Ian, really am. So many chances to put this away in the 14 classical games but the Queen move he played instead of bishop g7 was a move even I wouldn't have made. Huge respect to him for winning the candidates after his collapse after game 6 against Magnus, many thought he was weak - the candidates proved he isn't and to come out and do the press conference after this proves it even more. I hope to god Magnus enters the next candidates and Nepo wins it and gets another shot at it. 3rd time lucky and all that.

thought exactly the same, was the first press conference after an chess game i have watched, and man, the questions were really bad at some points.... and I believe for a world championship, they should get proper translators that can translate the questions properly .... ridicoulus

@@momomohrege260 the most disturbing part in my opinion is how the organizers/coordinators of the event not only didn't try to ban these kind of silly questions but also encouraged(!) them! I'm referring mostly to the lady that was sitting between Nepo and Ding during the interviews.

At times, this felt like watching a funeral.

The fact the loser of the world chess championship haz to sit through the press conference immediately after losing should legally be considered torture.

Kudos to both players...got into the dirty trenches and fought like hell. Hardly took the safe options. It was more what the sport asked for. Great ambassadors of the game😊

Well, if you have ever been to Almaty or Astana, you’d know that air pollution can be quite severe at times, and it can really affect breathing. On the other hand, Ding has spent time in Beijing, the worst/most air polluted city in the world, so on a relative basis it might not have been so bad for him. But it wasn’t as absurd a question as it might seem at first.

@@Keeper_of_nature Why asking questions about moves? You have your official stream with Fabi. You have your channels you're subscribed to, those both will cover any chess-related issue. Why not asking players about people who support them, their routine, the match organisation and weather conditions? That may yield some interesting supplementary details which are not obtainable otherwise.

They are a couple of class players. Although the matches weren't always the best chess play, it's nice to have two people that chess can be proud of.

Why don’t they have someone to translate the questions in Chinese for Ding? It is clear, and totally understandable, that he struggles sometimes. It would be much better if they arranged so he can speak in his native language.

If I am not mistaken it was Ding Liren himself who asked the reporters to only ask him questions in English. He did not want a translator.

Mannn, I feel for Ian. First loosing to Magnus, then bouncing back and winning the candidates' tournament a second time in a row but ultimately failing and losing the championship to the runner-up of the tournament. It was really hard to watch, the way pieces almost fell off the table when he disappointingly touched them after realising his dream of lifting the championship trophy was about to vanish, it was really brutal. Even IM Tanya Sachdev could not control her emotions and felt like she was about to cry.

Amazing how personal and emotional this is. Also quite beautiful that people from different countries are coming together for this interaction, which is warfare but only as a game.

Scientifically proven, their brains - the top GM's - are different. They see it in their minds visually. The entire game. This visual memory is due to the neural connections made when very young, which differ from most people not exposed to chess until much older, whose neural connections, once made, are nearly always not flexible enough to allow the visualizations top GM's develop when young. In this fashion, it's possible to say that they process lots of data at once, (visually, as in the whole board and each piece at once)while you and me process one thing at a time (non- visually).

This has been proven to be true in many studies. Google “ When you are learning, important changes take place in your brain, including the creation of new connections between your neurons. This phenomenon is called neuroplasticity. The more you practice, the stronger these connections become.” Quite simply, anyone that dedicated a large amount of time learning something when they’re young, develops the neuroplasticity to do that activity at a high level.

I have a suggestion for Ding. Don't defend the title . Just go and accomplish your other goals. From the Law of diminishing returns.

A great match. Some very inventive ideas and creativity. Probably a few too many missed opportunities from both players than we are used too but still a great watch for the fans. At the end of day there can only be 1 winner and it happened to Ding

i don't think chess has significant following in China if a hypothetical European - let's call him Dingus Lirensen - played a world championship match in Xiangqi (which is Chinese chess) - i don't believe there would be much more Western reporters on site :))

Watching live I was just excited for Ding, but when I look back I see only Ian crumbling and going through an avalanche of emotions in a very short space of time, and it’s hard to watch. I’ve always found him difficult to like because of his manner in press conferences and reliance on psychological pressure-in the rapid games he kept looking straight at Ding after every move as if to say ‘What you got?-but when his hands started shaking and he knocked those pieces over after looking away, he became a lot more human and relatable, and I feel for him. To lose at the death after three weeks of tough slogging during a match in which you were never behind must be terrible. I hope he recovers and comes back for a rematch in 2025.

Ding performance is inspiring, somehow I think he likes to be on the dangerous edges, on the ropes to make a miraculous come back everytime. If you know the EVO moment of Daigo against Justin Wong, with almost no life and risking everything, is that kind of feeling. Ian had a lot of chances and he prefered to push the clock instead of making the best moves. I think Ian could have won easily because of his attacking style, but he decided not to, its like an auto sabotage personality. Thanks Ding for fighting with the Last breath, Thanks Ian for letting Ding show his great resilence, Thanks Magnus for letting this happen.

The Aussie guy using metaphoric language like "trenches" etc and talking as if he's in Brisbane ! and when he repeats the question he never tried to rephrase !! and he knows he's talking to Ding and others whose first lang is not English let alone with an Aussie accent. Imagine someone there asking questions in a Scouse or Geordie accent ! I think he embarrassed himself not the other way round for Ding and the organiser lady.

a lot of native English speakers, even educated ones, have never learned any foreign language (beyond some rudimentary, primary school level), and seem to be completely unaware of the fact that they use idiomatic phrases, non-standard accent etc. which can be very challenging for non-native speakers

Russian translator wasn't there for Ian (who obviously doesn't need a translator), but for the Russian-speaking journalists (and the public), which isn't that surprising, given that a) chess has much stronger following in the Russian-speaking world, b) the hosting nation is Kazakhstan, where Russian happens to be one of the official languages. there were hardly any Chinese-speaking journalists at the conferences - possibly none at all, unless i've missed something. and if Ding's team felt he needed a Chinese translator, then what exactly stopped them from bringing one along? or have they ever requested one from FIDE? if the answers are 1. "nothing" and 2. "no", then complaining about this feels rather pointless

This novel is called "21 critical mistakes of beginner in chess", after reading this book he won the game

after 14 games, it should go to 2 classical games tiebreak, and keep going till at least 20 or 26 games...

well, in the previous one he was clearly the underdog, and his chances were low to begin with. here the situation was much different, he faced an opponent who was more or less equal in strength, and who (unlike Ian) hadn't even played a WC match before. this time he was so much closer, and i imagine it hurts more.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to have translators on site, giving players a better opportunity to express themselves. Playing long games everyday and then having to be a part of a conference has to tiring, let alone overcoming language barriers

Ian face and body language is pure dejection. Obviously warranted. Good for him to show up. That had to hurt.
