I produced some successful tracks that got radio play on the eris 4.5, including mixing and mastering, that's translated very well to club speakers, computer speakers, car speakers, home sound systems, cheap and expensive Bluetooth speakers, these little studio monitors are excellent. They're not my main set of monitors anymore as I've since got bigger studio monitors now but I still use these for another reference or listening to music, or for arranging tracks, you can really turn up the volume on these and have fun because of the front volume control and my audio interface, where on my other monitors they're set on quite a low volume and I can only control the volume from my audio interface unless I really want to make them louder and I have to re calibrate them. The 4.5 is a solid set of monitors, even if you've got high end monitors, these are still an excellent second set, or main set for small rooms, if you get to know these monitors you can make solid mixes on them!

Very nice and honest video! As far as the 4.5 "hum", I don't receive a hum, but it's like a bit of static, which I am assuming is electrical interference. I've moved my cordless phone, modem and wireless router away from the monitors and still get that crackle/noise. It's very subtle, but sometimes in soft passages or if the monitors are powered on, but not in use, it's very noticeable. I am about to change the interconnected speaker cable with some better-quality shielded cable. I am using a PreSonus AudioBox iTwo interface and even without an input plugged in, the static is present. I would really prefer not to use RCA cables for the Input connection. Any other ideas? I do think these are outstanding monitors for the price!

I'm thinking now about the Wharfedale DS-1 but it's only 14 W total, Alesis Elevate 5, M-Audio AV 42 or even maybe the Microlab Solo 7C. I'm still undecided what would be best for movies and music. In addition to what peskywinnets said below (the hum), I'd like to also add my few cents to discussion. Not worth buying. Why ? After two days, I consider returning it or throwing through window, because of few reasons. First, there is a constant hissing coming from the tweeters, with only power cable connected . Yes, I checked it also with and without UPS or different power strips, nothing helps. Hissing/hum - you name it, but for me, its like hearing TV when no programme is broadcasted (snowing, go sleep time). After few hours, because of that hissing sound, I got headache and couldn't sit in front of them anymore. No any tuning helped (back and front side). Because of this issue, I cannot hear anything from it on low volume and have to set ~20% volume level to mask that sound (I think it's about 150Hz). Playing anything very quiet gives you that one sound frequency extra. Second issue, is a lack of bass frequency. I know it starts from 70Hz, but that causes a huge sound distortion, so listening to some of my tracks is unbearable. Third, distortions. I cannot explain it easily, but the sound coming from these monitors sounds...plastic. I mean frequencies seem to be modified a lot, maybe due to poor quality DAC or some other element. Fourth, amplify low frequencies and you hear BUMS as if membrane was broken or hear very short crackling noises. I have no idea where it comes from. Fifth, playing any game on it ? A joke. no low frequencies and those distortions make it impossible (read: no fun at all). And finally, sixth - I also connected it to my Xonar Asus DX card and the sound was a complete crap. For comparision, I also checked very cheap $5 USB sound card and sound became a little bit better, but still not satisfying. I wish to return that unit back to the shop, but unfortunately in my country it's barely possible. I could complain to the seller, I could ask that Presonus company for those side effects (not tried yet to not hear what's written in manual), but they might not care about one customer, but what about me ? I simply lost $200 and might not get them back. Feel free to ask me about anything regarding this monitors. I will shortly make a review of few monitors setups - probably concrete and objective as nobody pays me for my reviews, so if I don't find any solution shortly, you'll read more about this speakers, but not very optimistic. And finally, what I like in this product ? A general look, a set of sockets in the front/rear side.

you're not the first person to say that. Seems they might have changed their design features. It's a very handy feature so that's a shame. If you don't have that feature you can try blocking the rear ports if you are experiencing too much bass in your room. I always plug headphones directly into the interface, it's a handy feature on the Eris but can't see any benefits.

Dumb question but can you plug these directly into your computer? I plan on getting an audio interface after buying these monitors.

Hi Sal, I'd recommend listening to any speaker in person, via KZread and through your own listening device will colour your interpretation of the sound significantly. I wish you all the best. Cheers for supporting the channel.

So the big downsize of this product is something that every single unbalanced connection suffers from. 😂

do not buy the speakers!! There is an audible hum and hissing sound. Even when there's no input and the volume is zero. I sent mine back for repair a mine and they came back to same. Plus I had to pay for postage and packaging
