I see many Filipinos here, tearing up in gratefulness to Pres. Marcos delivery of this speech. I honestly ask myself, why? What we have heard from him in this speech is a line-up of commonplaces. Everyone knows that Climate Change must be addressed, and Marcos was right about addressing the industrialized countries in the first place. But do his actions meet with his words? If he feels so strongly about the injustice of the stronger countries, the main polluters, why does he seek stronger economic ties to China? Speaking of China... Marcos addressed that Solidarity is one means to an end in fighting the world problems. His words: "Let the challenges of one people be the challenges for all nations." Yet, when will we see him addressing grave human rights violations against the Uygurs in China, that have been confirmed by the U.N. Commissioner for Human Rights, just lately. When will we see him expressing his solidarity with the victims of the russian invasion in the Ukraine, which he is not even calling a war but a "conflict"? Why should the Philippines become a member of the U.N. Security Council, if they cannot even take a clear stance in the biggest war fought worldwide as of now? What contribution can a President like Marcos bring. He is not bringing pride, but shame to the Philippines. A president, who is afraid of addressing the wrongdoings of Russia and China, and therefore desperately tailing himself to Xi and Putin. And all that after what the CHinese are continuously doing to the Filipinos in the West Philippine Sea. Is that the President you would all be proud of? Marcos emphasized human rights as one of the key pillars of the international rules based order. He is right. But he doesn't act on it. By calling it "independent foreign policy" and being a "friend to all and enemy to none" he is simply avoiding to take a stance. He keeps talking about the Philippines contributing to a peaceful world society. I cannot see that contribution in the Ukraine. How are the PH contributing, by not acting at all? By not addressing it? That shows the fears of a weak president. You might now tell me, the Philippines as a small country might be careful not to provoke the bigger countries. Let's take a look at Kenya. Kenya delivered a huge blow to Russia in the U.N. Security Council. It is not about the power of a country, but about it's courage!

First, being a Filipino and secondly, being a United Nations staff member for 33 years, I am so proud to listen and see how the son of our former great president, President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos, currently our president, President Ferdinand Romualdez 'Bongbong' Marcos delivered his powerful speech at the United Nations 77th General Assembly. Highly intellectual, like father, like son!! I salute to you My President Bongbong! I can only pray that may Our Lord God Bless you, protect you, and guide you in all your plans, hopes and dreams to help our countrymen improve their livelihood and make our country great again!
