Every body should read how Nehru became mad for Jackelyn Kennedy and Americans made fun of Nehru's misbehavior regarding jackey . While during the tour Nehru was not interested in any talk and discussion about the two nations but only Jackie. She became so disgusted with NEHRU that later on she said in a TV interview that had Nehru not been Prime Minister she would have bitten him with her sandals. Now the American Government has declassified old files and this and many other information have come out which may be eye opener for everyone.

Perhaps the commentator mixed up this Nehru's visit to USA in Nov 1962 with Jacqueline Kennedy's visit to India which happened later in 1962. She stayed in N.Delhi as a guest of US Ambassodor John Kenneth Galbraith. Later she visited places like Jaipur where she stayed with the royals. Her interest was study of art and architecture of India. She made one more visit to India for that purpose. The comment above is based on FEKU information and most unwarranted.

The more you know Nehru, the more futile he looks in real terms. Poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, unproductive industries aided by communist Russia while he still dabbled with the west, were taking shapes early on. Lack of promotion of private enterprise & industries, license Raj, inspector Raj and none whatsoever sense to build infrastructure, are some of the several blunders of his 17 years in power. Sure Nehru had a ‘charisma’ but that’s how the bureaucrats were told to promote him. He had to look fancy and aristocratic just as he would visit America ! While corruption and other social evils were not yet widespread, they were brought to fruition once his daughter manipulated her induction as Prime Minister. This was also the beginning of a ‘right’ to be the Prime Minister if you carried Gandhi name, regardless of your capability. This is also the reason why a comedian like Pappu has been desperate to make a dent into politics. Thanks

This comment is made imagining that India was sitting on a mountain of riches left by the Colonialists. Our foreign reserves were only a few million Sterling pounds equivalent to ~ rs.15000 crores in August 1947. Unfortunately due to the war torn economy of UK that was devalued by 35% in 1949. What Nehru or any genius Prime Minister could have done with those 10000 crore rupees worth FE with or without licence raj. Perhaps we could have imported essential machinery for a few factories. Today's foreign reserves of 640 bn dollars are the fruits of labour of crores of Indians and intelligent prime ministers over the last 75 years . They were not built overnight and leaders then were not braggers.
