As Conan stated, his only goal with all his guests is to relate to them on a human level. Conan believes that you can find common ground with pretty much any other human being regardless of your differences. One shouldn’t only interact with people who agree with them on every single thing, that path leads to utter madness.

It was great seeing this side of Conan. You could feel the emotion he had talking about making his parents laugh. Oddly, it was one of the closest times I’ve ever seen Conan get to tears.

The thing about Irish Mothers is they are extremely strong and dominant. I grew up believing I was irish, because I had an Irish Grandmother who just totally dominated the culture of the whole family, so we're all (me and my 17 aunts and uncles and 60 odd cousins) are culturally irish, but genetically we are, some of us, only 1/4 irish.

​@hunter98764 was speaking to my my mother's experience growing up in Dublin. Kids were hit. School was Catholic. Teachers and nuns were mean. REALLY mean. There were things you just didn't do. Didn't say. My mother's parents were divorced, she had to tell her school he was dead. Otherwise the school wouldn't have taken her. She's 60. Conan and Biden have NO idea what it was like to be Irish. Growing up in the US in the 70s was nothing like growing up in Ireland. At all.

I'm just waiting for the Jay Leno clip. Just listened to the episode, and it was one of the (unintentionally) funniest moments on the podcast ever.

So happy for Conan getting this. He’s a really unique interviewer and an amazing improviser. Idve LOVED to be a fly on the wall for the prep for this. From making sure they show Biden in a good light and keep him on track, to being fun and funny, to also be interesting and insightful….lots of pressure when interviewing a president. I know production is chaotic af but I bet this was an exciting week for them

Conan tries to show all his guests in a good light. Letterman is a great comedian and host, but he would often be content to embarrass his guests as long as it got a laugh, which was his thing, and was pretty entertaining. But Conan has always tried to relate to each of his guests on a human level and show them in the best light possible regardless of who they were. Even in cases where the guest made it quite difficult for Conan to do that.
