    The bad part about the semi truck is all the aluminum and metal in the cab. If you try to run the antenna straight up, it’s hard to get a 1.5 or less swr. On a mirror mount set up. If you have the Mirror hoops you can get above the cab. All the new trucks don’t use those. I try to tell a fellow truck drivers, to use top loaded antennas. Like fire sticks. Trying to tune a set of Wilson antennas is terrible on the new trucks. KD0LDL thanks for your videos I enjoy watching them.

    I had a good time parking high elevation, and after the painful choice of cutting an 8 ft whip, and adding male and female threads to make it sectional, stowable, listend to where skip was coming from, parking side of car facing that way, and the 6 inch magnet on the back trunk edge, yeah, making a horizontal dipole, half cash car, half whip, worked skip with much quieter recieve. Luckilly a jogger or bicyclist did not cruise through and get shish k-bobbed.

    I helped this driver with His SWR and when I did that I decided to see what would happen if I tilted His Antennas if I tilted them forward and Straight up.... I noticed when I Tilted them too far forward and also straight up it raised the SWR, but when I tilted them about 10* forward it was the best.... The SWR was higher because Straight up there was a reflection from the Cab because he had a Conventional, and too far forward it reflected off the engine, but as slight forward tilt was just right tilt...

    the purpose of tilting is to counter the bend of the wire when they bend from wind, so that they end up vertical

  • @davep6977
    @davep69775 жыл бұрын

    a couple quick points. 1- if the is laying down (folded over) then to the side it would be the difference from vertical polarity to horizontal polarity which will drop your signal up to 20db. 2- the garage shouldn't make much problem with skip. Most vertical have an upward radiation of 16-20 degrees thus radiating right to the ionosphere so the signal can "skip"

    The Rubber Ring is for adjusting SWR on certain channels. Because this is a Brand Specific it most likely didn't need moved on your setup. I have had some fiberglass ones that had a rubber sleeve you would slide up or down for better SWR. No cutting or adjusting those ya know. Oh! and SOME maybe not all drivers tilt them forward because they "Think" they can straighten them up at speed. So in other words, they are sort of bragging on how fast their truck can go the more forward the antena is tilled... I know crazy right!!!

Problem is now I cannot drive into carport with antenna mount up. Have always go out and put them down. Now I think to go back to the new president new virginia or to the mississippi, Not sure what to do. What of the 2 antennas performs better? I think the new virginia should work better than all expect. But better than the mississippi? Friend of mine has a simmilar antenna like the mississippi. Was another name but looks simmilar. He said he has better performance than other antennas even when the are longer ... What to do?

It seems that on Cascadia tractors, at least, it is impossible to achieve a good mach with the whip vertical. BTW- Do you have any experience with inactive AGC on Uniden Grant XLs? My guess on the little UFO thingy is it's a capacity hat. On the antenna canted forward, I do. I run a single 102" stainless whip and the best coax i could get my hands on from Universal Radio. At highway speeds my antenna is as near vertical as possible and SWR is 1.1:1 as indicated on the radios built in meter, which is pretty well in line with my analyzer Stationary it shows 1.2-1.4 throughout the 11 meter band as shown on a Comet CAA-500 antenna analyzer. I do however have all the various components of the truck, (cab, doors and such) bonded to the frame using 1" tinned copper braid straps. You can catch me occasionally on 40 meters around 7.187 or on 20 around 14.330-14.340. And with that I dun got down, down to da ground, bye buh buh bye bye bye. Gotta love the idiot's on channel 6... 73' de John C.

    The only good mobile CB antenna is a full-length quarter-wave whip. As for activity, the only local activity in San Diego is the alcohol and drug addicted crowd on ch. 19.

    Get your friends involved and talk on the commute, weekends or whatever. Select a channel and keep this alive. The great thing is that you have a virtual private line and if you don't then you may recruit same minded individuals to join in. In the 70's and early 80's you had a hard time finding an empty channel.

    Well, with an SDR receiver a few miles away you could measure the performance of this antenna, best compared to a DV27L as a reference. There are enough freely accessible (KIWI) SDR receivers in your area.

    Those KIWI receivers are a great source for that. I use them all the time and love just tuning in and listening. It's very gracious of the people who purchase them and allow others to logon and use these fine receivers.

    Yes I would be fine with public executions for channel 6 user's on the "Super Bowel". I do not mind people using power or even operating where they do not belong. I hate splatter boxes and Ghost talking and any form of agitating and noise toys! My problem with ch. 6 as it relates to power is they operate amps that have poor design that goes through bjt transistors like Jimmy Carter goes through liver pills! When you cant afford transistors or they run out because of idiots like that I can not help but wish them nothing but animosity. They go though bjt transistors like a fat kid eating cup cakes. Soon their will be nothing left but Chinese transistors. They should have transition to NXP LDMOS transistors. The guys using tubes that have 10K or more power have to have crazy power bills! I bet if they used a heat exchanger they could recover some of that heat to heat their home! LOL

    NO disrespect but mag mounts dont work well. You cannot beat a well grounded antenna. I use a 102 inch real actual quarter wave whip. Go to side band to get away from idiots with splatter boxes and you can actually get out with 12 to 20 watts on side band. My 146 has 20 watts out on side band. I have never touched the adjustment but only recapped it.

    And what should a person do, cut a hole in the roof of their car? Absolutely nothing wrong with a magnetic mount antenna. Millions and millions of them in use and working perfectly.

    If you like mag mount OK. I dont they wont work for me at least mine dont maybe its too cheap. Cant get the SWR to go down with a mag mount. A fender mount or trunk mount that can actually fold down inside the trunk if you want to. They will ground good to actual metal. I noticed you didnt contact anyone though they dont work that great for me is all Im saying. I have a metal building by my drive way next door I can get out good on my 102 inch whip I ground the paint off the bed of the truck back by the tailgate and bolted bracket to bare metal with Electrical contact grease inside the bed side. The fender mount should be better than a mag mount in my humble opinion because it actually grounds to metal. I guess I should try a different mag mount. What brand of mag mount is that your using? It works for you it picks up good. The president has great ears. Did you tune it?
