As he prepares to embark on an overseas tour, star actor Garry Essendine’s colourful life is in danger of spiralling out of control. Engulfed by an escalating identity crisis as his many and various relationships compete for his attention, Garry’s few remaining days at home are a chaotic whirlwind of love, sex, panic and soul-searching.
Captured live from The Old Vic in London, Matthew Warchus directs Present Laughter in a giddy and surprisingly modern reflection on fame, desire and loneliness.

Anything andrew scott does is pure gold , I love him 😍
I am delighted to see that this recording of the show is to return to cinemas. I saw the show live and really enjoyed it. Do go and see it!
So, so excited for this!!!! Watched it in 2019 and absolutely adored it, such a fantastic cast all giving amazing performances (and those costumes 😍😍) So sad it's never been released on NT at Home (licencing issues?) but absolutely thrilled it's going to be back in cinemas!! The best version of Present Laughter I've ever seen by far. Will definitely be making several cinema trips!! 💛
Watched this last night and I was the only one in the showing. Was absolutely brilliant...people missed a gem.
Absolutely wonderful. The cinema was raucous with shared laughter.
Just saw it in Toronto. Superb all around! Brilliant production and performances by Andrew, Sophie Thompson and others. Thank you NT Live. if anyone at NT Live is reading this, I just wish you would revert to having a host at the beginning introduce and talk about the play with a short introduction as used to be done. It gives the performance a bit more of a feeling of excitement and "event." The intermission interviews are still there, luckily. So nice to be able to see great London productions when I"m not able to get to London to see them in person.
Saw this last night and it was absolutely phenomenal, so so funny but really moving in places too! Andrew Scott is a genius, so glad to have the chance to watch this as I missed it when it was on at the theatre!

I saw it in the cinema years ago and it was SO GOOD. sadly since I'm not in the UK I won't be able to see it again. please put it on NT at home eventually 😢
I've booked to see it twice next month (Friday night and Tuesday afternoon) lol hope it's as good as the clips I've watched a hundred times but I love Andrew in anything I watch, so I will probably enjoy it.

I’m really envious. I’m in Germany and I doubt I’ll be able to come over to the UK. But I love that you’re doing that! I don’t unterstand why it’s not more common in other places

The National Theatre also offers a streaming at home service, though not all of the productions that show in cinemas are part of that. You can check it on their website, NT Live if you are interested in seeing other National productions at home.

AS is brilliant and this deserves a re_Release. Pls release THE AUDIENCE with Helen Mirren again after the passing of QE2, it would be great to see this extraordinary play as I missed it first time around.

This play in complete form is on u tube with Donald Sinden , it knocks spots off this production. I never realised what a fantastic actor was until I saw this u tube complete play.

Many fans of Andrew would beg to differ. I've been so impressed by so many things he's done, including the solo Vanya that was also shown in cinemas, and his heartbreaking performance in the film All of Us Strangers, with Paul Mescal. He is amazing.
