Presch combination square set review

Ғылым және технология

I needed to be able to accurately measure a 45degree mitre cut on some wood during the creation of another project and realised I didn't have anything in the workshop that I could use. A quick search on Amazon showed many options and to my mind the Presch seemed to be a good buy. There are more expensive items listed, and a lot of cheaper ones. These were middle of the road so I bought them. The quick video shows what I got for my money and how I did a basic checked to see if they were any good. Remember there are 2 squares in the set!

Full disclosure. Some of the links above may earn a few pennies for the channel at absolutely no cost to yourself. Thanks for watching.

The level of magnetism of stainless steel can vary quite a bit depending on the grade. Some stainless steels are weakly or not magnetic at all. Others may have a magnet stick to them surprisingly strongly, just a little weaker than plain low-carbon steel. Many rulers are made of 430 stainless steel which is ferritic and as such quite magnetic.

Hi and thanks for the great information. For a long time I always understood stainless was not magnetic but at work now we use different grades of SS for gears and some of it is quite magnetic so the squares are probably made from stainless! Thanks for watching 😃

I also decided to pay a bit more and get a real deal. There are magnetic grades of ss btw, idk if they are using some of those

Hi thanks for the comments and info. There is stainless that’s magnetic out there. They could be using that! Thanks for watching 👍🏽

Genuine German tools are worth the money, they tend to be accurate and long-lasting (most of my electronics tools are German). German companies are usually helpful, an email direct to them (even though their site is in German) may elicit a response to the stainless question.

Interesting, thanks Ralph. These are German and look good and hopefully will work well but you can pay more!
