Holcim and especially the team as one fine tuned Swiss watch, and German ingenuity in the boat Malizia with its inspired team. Biotherm with French creativity and presence in the moment and the strong wills in American 11 Hour. All boats together. All sailors doing an incredible job to keep things floating, and competing in the same time. What a show!
Crazy how close it is after all these miles.
Reminds me of how ergonomics is a huge factor in tank-design. Once push comes to shove, once you have to do things over and over and over again and things depend on speed, making the movements comfortable is hugely important.
Niall your feva sailors are loving watching you!
Such great explanations about the differences of the boats and the practicalities of hauling wet sails through or over a boat. Good stuff!
The speeds these guys achieve is mind boggling.
It's so great how much joy and fun you bring into our living rooms in this world. There is nothing better than sharing your experiences with you. As we said before: the Malizia family and the great reporting. "You come across so well! Please keep it up!
Thank you Niall for exploring the design performance v. comfort issue with respect to bow design and sail changes! This is exactly the kind of thing I asked for after watching the last episode. Your final question is the one I want to hear the crews, shore teams, builders and designers answer once the boats are safely tucked away in Genova. Great update!
The best commentary of any sport I’ve listen too, thanks!
The drone footage at the end was amazing. Made me think. When the boat begins to 'crash' the bow into the next wave... why not have another foil? Close to the bow that could be retracted flush in smooth water, but extended in rough waves. The idea being that it would reduce the impact of the bow hitting the next wave and help to raise the bow again before slams, slowing the boat. It would be adjustable of course with conditions. Under 'normal' flight height, it would be out of the water, so no drag. Just starting to reduce the impact with minimal drag, before the bow hits. Ideally, perfectly tuned, it would prevent the bow from hitting at all. Just thoughts...
How exciting, after these miles logged, the fleet is coming together after the Prime Meridian crossing. Thanks again, Niall's for the update!
Impressive!❤
Another critical design feature of Malizia: @
Well done, Niall -- These update shows are great.
Thank you for your up-date and...Hop Suisse!
Well done guys.
"a feeling of remoteness".
Another excellent show. Thank you!
Awesome shots, so much fun!!😊
Leg 3 the most exciting yet! Malizia takes the lead
