Preparing Honeysuckle Vine For Basket Weaving

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Harvesting honeysuckle vines, and then preparing them to use for weaving baskets. Honeysuckle is an old traditional basket making material. The preparation was not as difficult as I had thought it might be!

I was just thinking that I would like to learn basket weaving. It’s nice to know that I don’t need a willow tree. 😊

Oh do give it a try!!! I wish I had bought a kit and learned it years ago. It's a fun task, and does not require buying a bunch of special equipment like so many things do! :-)

Wow! So cool I planted White morning glory last year up against my new fence, and it really took off. The roots were impressive, not that I pulled up all the routes, but I saved what I could because they were curly and I was thinking they could be made into something. Possibly not a basket but something artistic! I love seeing you back online, thanks for sharing

This is that honeysuckle I bought from you at the Farmer's Market under the bridge! It took it a few years before it began to bloom, and now it blooms wonderfully nearly all summer. You'll have to let me know what you do with the morning glory, there's a lot of wild growing here. :-)

We make traditional Cherokee honeysuckle baskets using only the fresh runners in the spring, and then all of them are consistent in size, texture and color.

Thanks! It's been quite a roller coaster this past couple of years, hasn't it? Hopefully brighter days ahead at some point. 🙂

Hi! Found your channel searching for info on making wild plum jelly but stayed to watch you prep honeysuckle vines! Did you ever make a basket with them? I’ve always been interested in that as well as pine needle baskets.

I haven't made a basket yet (it's been a difficult summer) but I still plan to do so. It's fascinating how many different materials baskets can be made of. :-)

Very cool! Do you make baskets or wreaths? Wish we had some. I do have grape vine, but it is too twisted for baskets.
