I've lived alone most of my adult life. I've also had two shoulder surgeries. The advice that you NEED someone at home to help you when you don't have that is very off-putting. I did have friends come by a couple of times to change a bandage, and people drove me to and from the hospital, but I did feed, bathe, and clothe myself. If doctors believe you need someone at home, then insurance companies need to cover at-home care and not expect everyone to run out and get a family pre-op.

My first total reverse shoulder replacement was 4/2/2018. It went very well. My second was 4/1/2019 and it also went very well. Both times I did PT afterwards. I am so very pleased to be done with the horrible pain as well as very poor range of motion I had before the surgeries. The doctors who do these surgeries are miracle workers for sure; the therapists as well. I am very lucky to be living in a time when medicine has progressed this far. I am 72 and have a large garden. I can again reach into my upper kitchen cupboards.

@@miraclemeditations3919 I’m getting my second replacement this Feb. done after 7 months of having my right shoulder done. This guy is my surgeon and he is fantastic. After 7 months on my right shoulder I can play ping pong, Golf, and do all my gardening. Hope yours went well.

@@anti-social6368 Thanks for responding. It has been four weeks, and I am very hopeful. I took half a pain pill for the first three nights before I realized I didn't need them. I am in PT. Passive ROM appears good- 150 degrees, with probably more to come. I am just at the beginning stages and I am not trying to go too fast. I am only wearing the sling when sleeping now, but I am very careful the rest of the time. I am glad you can play ping pong and golf. Can you actually pull a weed from your garden? I think I would be afraid to do that. I have already told my wife I can't ever pull weeds anymore, and I would never want her to find out anything different. LOL

@@miraclemeditations3919 I can pull weeds and I even work on cars. I use wrenches and hammers with no problem. But I am very careful of not overdoing it like I use to. You will get stronger in time like I did. It’s been 7 months since my first surgery but I was told a good year for 90% recovery. I use these large rubber bands for exercise that you can order from Amazon couple times a week. I am 66 years old by the way. Enjoy your new shoulder. I can’t wait to get my left one done.😁

Getting my second in about three months. My first went well and my therapist was amazing! My hubby was home for the first week, then I felt comfortable to be by myself after that. I didn't use the post-op pain meds the doctor prescribed, as they gavee hallucinations and upset stomach. I used arthritis-strength Tylenol and ice packs; worked well and no more 'tripping'!!!! I had friends who hauled me off to post-op and therapy appointments. I was back to playing the piano (gently) in four weeks. My surgeon is one of the top shoulder surgeons on the East coast and she is amazing!!

I am gearing up for reverse shoulder replacement, and this is the most complete video I have seen in all of my research from a preparation to after care and living post operatively.

Had a Total Reverse Shoulder Replacement 34 days ago. Healing well. My Tips: 1). Have shoes available that don't need to be tied. (2). Invest in at least six gel ice packs. (3). Prepare your favorite meals before surgery and freeze them. (4). Changing positions, even the slightest bit, can make a difference in your pain. (5.). Physical therapy is as important as breathing and eating. 😁

I'm facing shoulder surgery around the middle of May by the same surgeon that replaced both hips. which, both went very well. I have had rotator cuff repair on my left shoulder which also went very well but this is more than a simple repair. The recovery time is the worse part but if it removes the pain and stiffness I more than ready.

I have potentially got to get a full shoulder replacement in 3 weeks, i have two bones spur locations that have torn my supraspinatus tendon, my subscapularis tendon and anterior/posterior labrum degenerative tearing. So my doc told me they will try to avoid a full shoulder replacement once they get into my shoulder, but he said due to my age i will more than likely need the full replacement surgery. I really dont want the full replacement, i saw videos of that surgery and it looks brutal and recovery time will be much longer. Thx for the video it cleared a few more things up for me.

My mother is 69. A pa told her at 65. "You need shoulder replacement surgery..but how long do you think you will live? The recovery and pain is long" they both laughed. I kinda wish she would've got the surgery ..she's always in so much pain. If anyone has advice from meds to surgery please chime in .

I had my right shoulder replaced in 1999. I complained that there was something wrong for a year. Finally, the doctor realized that the implant was defective, and i had to have that replaced after a year. It's now 20 years after that replacement and i have lived with extreme pain and very limited range of motion for many years now, but it's at the pint that I can't do much and if i try i hurt more. I'm hesitant on going through this again. One of the reasons, is the "opioid crisis." I don't have any problems with that kind of medication, and i really don't like to take those meds as for the severe constipation it causes. The problem is that I do not wish to put myself in a position where i will not be adequately treated for pain. I don't want to be told that i can only have 7 days worth of pain meds, or that "our patients don't require pain meds after 4 weeks. I don't trust what they will tell me, and then after surgery it's different. If i have the surgery, it will be done at the VA Florida. I'm retired and can't afford medical treatment on the outside. I just past the 4 year mark after major back surgery with all sorts of rods and screws. I dismissed the doctor after that surgery as they handed me the crap that they won't give out pain meds 4 weeks after major surgery. You can't treat people by looking at a chart, and i will not have our government deciding what i can be given and for how long. So, my decision is probably to live out the rest of my life in extreme pain and discomfort. My back is a major problem, I need more surgery, and i won't do anything unless it becomes so acute that I have no choice. I would appreciate know, just for my information, how long you would treat a person pain with something other that Tylenol?

I feel for you brother. I can speak from experience that this is addiction brother. You may or may not be receptive of this idea. I can tell you that I had many problems for years and treated it with prescribed painkillers with forms of opioids. My life was falling apart due to pain and addiction. At the very least I urge you to give up any opioids and see where you are at in 3 months. It will be difficult but it will always improve. I'm at six years now sober. At the very least I have a clearer view of what is going on with my body. I have been where you are. If you can get through the discomfort of stopping you will be so grateful as long as you are committed. Good luck brother. The Doctor's aren't against you but they can see the addiction even if you can't.

I hear the VA is crappy at pain management. I go to pain management and get meds monthly. Just the redicoulous drug test every other month. Had a dozen surgeries both knees and shoulders and hand. TKR and getting TSR in couple days. Spine degeneration and arthritis everywhere. Nothing wrong with pain meds for some quality of life. It's the people that keep asking for more and more. Also I cannot take nsaids either per cardiologist which do work good for me. If you got joints that are bone on bone taking nothing for pain sucks.

I'm a bilateral leg amputee I'm above knee on the left and I'm hip disarticulation on the right side. Dr Miguel Ramirez will be doing a reverse shoulder replacement January 7th on me. Looking like I'm one of the first in a wheelchair in my area to have it done. Have you guys there is Stanford replace them and people in wheelchairs and if so is there a way to find out what and how they were able to transfer after surgery. Going to be tricky I know that I mean I'm going to be down to no legs and one arm for at least 6 months. I am starting on Wednesday to see a therapist that's going to try to help me figure out a way to do this but I was hoping that maybe you guys have ran across this before and could give me some advice. Thank you very much

I'm 42 years old I have had anchors put in my shoulder at 27 one day I started my day and my shoulder hurt so bad it hurt so bad I called Kaiser for an x-ray after getting the x ray back I knew something was wrong went to the doctor and he said I had two choices one cortisone shots two shoulder replacement surgery. So I chose both knowing in my heart I was two young. In the end I saw two Kaiser doctors say even though I will benefit from the surgery they will not do the surgery do to my age they say it's to risky so they want me to wait till I'm 50 I'm a caregiver at a facility and my body helps other by the time I'm done I can not move my arm my hand gets stuck and n a fist and I'm screwed they won't even email me back
