Preparing an Abandoned 1967 Volvo Amazon for a 600 mile roadtrip

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The FINAL stretch! I didn't intend on all of these shenanigans happening last minute. That's just what happens sometimes. We fought the clock and struggled to get it back together.

    10 for effort, 10 for ingenuity, 10 for technical commentary and humour. But the squirrels only get 7 for not focusing on the task ahead and craving head scratch in flowerpot, something very much frowned upon as we all know.

    13:22 That's a 6-bolt flywheel which means it the same on the B18's and early(!) B20, in 1973 they actually introduced a new 8-bolt crankshaft/flywheel for the B20 engine, and those same crankshafts and flywheels were then later used in the B21 engine. And there's actually an old trick when getting some more horsepower out of the later B20's because those first connecting-rods used for the 8-bolt crankshaft/flywheel were really weak, so people would get the later M-connecting rods out the mid-to-late B21 engines because they fit right onto the crankshaft used in late-production B20's. Great video btw!

    It's *_really_* easy to get basically every kind of Amazon part you could every need here in Sweden, but i can definitely imagine that it's quite a lot harder to find over in the States 😮

    I’m very fortunate to have a circle of friends that have been into Volvos for decades. I was able to source a b21 block for free and also have a b230ft block for another build. The best part about Volvo is their Lego like build quality!

    Last time that happened to me, in 1990, the part was still available from Volvo, and they had actually upgraded it to thicker steel with a gusset.

    I had one of those when I was going to school many years ago (early 70's). Mine had a B18-D engine if I remember correctly with dual SU carbs. My interior was tan colored. That is about all I can remember except for the long shifter and scrolling speedometer.

    I knew there had to be some serious hidden rust issues on this car. Real shame putting in all the work just to see the car disintegrating in front of you. But the patina on it is so fucking good each time I see it I get jealous. Perhaps a complete strip down and rust treatment and some welding in the long distant future?

  • @DeanofMachines

    @DeanofMachines

    9 ай бұрын

    Luckily the car doesn't need a whole lot of stripping down. I think I can get a lot of rust repairs done without taking the car completely out of service. Fingers crossed anyway

    Really neat with the rear main seal! A lot easier than on my Amazon, and a modern neoprene rubber seal available too. I have to drop the crank as it is a two piece felt seal (along with some wood sticks, no joke) that seal it up. No rubber seal available as far as I know for a B16. Glad you managed to work through all the other issues as well. Hopefully you felt it was worth all the long hours. Looking forward to seeing how the trip went.
