Thanks for showing this I didn't know what all you have to do to a tail I am a disabled Veteran and I was in a group that took disabled Veterans and they would teach us how to fly fish and they would take us on trips to fish. They also had fly tying classes. I have never been around a fly rod before I grew up using a zebco 202 and 33. I had so much trouble trying to learn to fly fish and plus both my shoulders are messed up and have had surgeries on both so I had a hard time holding my arms up for so long. But I was getting pretty good at tying but covid hit and I quit going. Just as soon as I can I'm going to start buying the stuff to tie jigs for crappie and bass or anything else for that matter. I really don't care what's biting just so long as I'm catching fish lol. I have subscribed to your channel and am looking forward to more of your content

I have shampooed a couple that were really nasty before boning out. You need to dry the air before skinning and pinning it down though so mold does not grow. I shake mine out real good and hit them with a hairdryer (Don't tell your wife! HAHA) It only takes a few minutes and makes much better hair.

  • @scottnra

imagoodmann I think so. I've done alt cured hides as well but long term, the hair will fall out if not tanned properly. I have not had any tails long enough to see if the hair falls out and I'm cutting it off for jig tying anyway. I also think it does the job without the "drainage" you get with salt.
