That's what i always think when i see my ugandan wife peeling matooke too. As a professional cook myself ive always been taught, and i always teach others to cut away from your body, not towards it. But till now she hasn't cut herself and it is a part of their culture.

@@KnowYourRoots we make one slit in the peel throughout the whole length and then use our finger to pry open the slit and proceed to remove the peel.we call it green fig or green bananas.here in saint lucia it is our national dish along with stewed saltfish.
