Prepaid surcharge I Gwamanda denies lack of consultation on R200 prepaid surcharge
Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda has refuted claims that there weren't enough consultations before the new electricity surcharge for pre-paid customers was implemented on the 1st of July.
Johannesburg prepaid electricity users will be paying the two hundred and thirty rand monthly fee on top of the 12.7% electricity hike that also came into effect on Monday.
The move has since attracted widespread outrage and calls for the decision to be reversed.

Show us the cost cutting measures that Eskom/municipalities are taking and what they are doing to reduce theft. We are tired of huge tariff increases to cover for SOE inefficiencies and theft.
The prepaid customers pay the municipality upfront...they should be discounted for it....
Why must we pay 200 rands when the same city does not pay eskom
How does the ANC Government keep raising Electricity (things) by 20%-40% when everyone is even lucky to get a 5% increase. They clearly did not get message on the 29th May.

I wont be suprised if all these JHB gauteng increases is to pay Soweto resident debt should rather build a wall around them.
Prepaid rates are already higher than post-paid rates. Service providers charge an admin fee plus VAT which already has a big impact.
They Better make sure electricity prices comes down to pre 1994. I don't want to hear any stories!!!

Gwamanda will be out of that office soon. I know Orange Farm was not consulted. So we will take decisive actions that removes these people who are taking this stance of a surcharge imposing it on unemployed families.
