Here is part 11 of the 15-part Premier Strat type guitar building series. This series is modeled after the beginner’s guitar construction class that we teach at a local community college. If you are new to guitar building…this will give you all the knowledge you need to be successful. Of course, you will need some basic woodworking ability…and at least some tools as needed. I require that my class students build either a Tele or Strat type guitar for their first build. They are simple…yet amazingly efficient. Leo Fender was an absolute genius…inventing things that are still widely used over 60 years later.
We will be using the Maximum Guitar Works template system. The basic seven-piece Strat set includes the body and pickup rout template, the neck pocket template, the back tremolo template, neck template, fretboard template, the standard pickguard template, and the rear tremolo cover template. The complete basic template system includes safety grips and hardened steel drill bushing for alignment and accuracy. There are other options available, please ask for any special needs.

Them's some fancy drill guides! You'll have to demo them next time.

honestly for the jack plate cavity wiring access hole the jigg is best or coming in thru the jack route so the hole ends up at the BOTTOM of the control cavity, otherwise the pots interfere with the wires and the scratch plates doesn't want to fit easily, so you want the wire entrance below the pots, its a tight space, in the jack cavity there is plenty of room to move the wires around for clearance, I just bend them down and leave adequate slack . . . same for the ground wires, keep them below any components on control cavity side so they do not interfere with scratch plate fitment

Great video! But you did demonstrate the fallacy of slanted trem springs. If they are all straight they have the same tension.

I do it for clearance, not string tension…mainly because I can.

Hi Steve & Hannah, great vid as always. I noticed you have the same problem with your humbucker routs that I have with my current SG build, an unsightly gap caused by the plate being wider than the top of the pickup. Is there anything that can be done to remedy that? Maybe some uber cool wood pickup covers? That would make a great video showing how to make and fit those :)
