Vegas has had the feature of joining 2 clips together for years, as well as automatic crossfaded, which I love. I started using Vegas since version 1 and still do to this day. I've tried other NLE software, still continue to test them out as they roll out, but still haven't found anything that allows me to edit clips as fast and intuitively as Vegas does. Not trying to be a fanboy, but I wish that NLE's like Premiere and Davinci Resolve would adopt some of Vegas's features. Editing on the timeline is so much faster and easier in my opinion. Nice review by the way.

Hi....im also a Vegas user since their version 6. Can you tell me what Processor - Ram - Graphics card combo your using. Im planning to build a new system with Ryzen 5700g + 32gb 3200mhz Ram + inbuilt Vega 8 IGPU of the processor for now till graphics card prices come to more real earth based rates. The rest i have is OS & Programs on separate NVME....SATA SSD for editing media and multiple HDDs for backups and archiving of media.

@A21-EDITS hopefully, one day, automatic crossfades when joining clips will be a standard all NLEs should adopt. This in the interest of making these tools more efficient to use by everyone.

@@simplysurfing AMD is going with AM5 motherboards for their new CPU's. While they might release more AM4 CPU's, no one knows for sure. The AM4 socket has had a great run. I bought the 1700X after it's release and a Gigabyte B350 motherboard. With a BIOS update, I can run any 5000 series CPU. Not bad at all! But my next upgrade will likely be the Ryzen 9 5950X, and I'll wait as AM5 shakes itself out. It will keep me happy for a few more years.

I’m by far, BY FAR! A low level editor. And I’m using older products. But here’s my amateur take. I have CS6. And I’m good at quickly doing what I need and going about my day. (Why cs6. I own it. I’m not renting anything.) Now I have a pc running Vegas 15 pro. And whoever old that is, it’s newer than CS6. I shoot things in the mfx file wrapper. For CS6, I needed to buy a separate program for $50 that has since been updated and I need to pay another $40 to update it. (Arcos? Arkos? Whatever) so I need to convert the mfx file from my Canon xc10 to mpeg4 or hvec whatever for Premier Pro to work with it. Vegas 15. Works. Load it in, playback is slower, but plays immediately. 4K at 305mbs. If I had my choice, since I know how to use it. I’d love to stay with Premier Pro. But again, I’m not renting it. I want to own it. For me, I can own Vegas. That’s it for me. And since it’s an upgrade, I can own it for $49-79 depending on the sale. If you’re worried about money. Go with DaVinci. It’s free. It works. It’s… not great for me. If you have an apple and never want to worry about it. Get Final Cut. You own it. You could have bought it in 2011 and it’s still updated and supported since then. 11 years. One price. Once adobe went to pay to play, I go off the bus. Of all of them… I think Final Cut is the most user friendly. Premier Pro is the second. Vegas is… okay. DaVinci. No clue what’s happening. I can make simple edits in it. But opening it and using it. Nope. Have to watch a 45 minute long tutorial first.

Yeah, but there's like no graphics transitions really available for Vegas right, most of the best ones are for Premier or Resolve?

  • @Crackie

May I say... • Vegas was not doing 4K playback. It says right below the preview panel that the preview is 1080p even though the original file was 4k. So it shows you a FHD proxy. You could put a 12K video there and it would have been the same. On the other hand Premiere Pro handled Full Resolution playback of the 4k clip nicely. • Rendering the video in both programs is easy. You can go up to the menu bar and then go File -> Render or File -> Export Media. On Premiere I always type Ctrl+Shift+M and then I always render inside premiere. It's just easy. Easy af. • The tracks on premiere are adjustable via the scrolling wheel in a combination with a key like alt or shift, I don't remember exactly. It is nice cause it gives you a better view of your timeline when working on multiple tracks. Although I should say, I prefer the size of the tracks on Vegas for simple edits when you don't use more than 3 tracks... In vegas you can easily see your video, your audio and everything. Until your tracks fill the entire screen. • The fade in and fade out is VERY easy on Vegas, but moving things and keyframing isn't. If premiere would just add this it would have been so awesome... • The transition between two clips on vegas is amazing really

Ive been watching most of your videos recently. I was very happy to see that you recognize VEGAS PRO as even a software worth comparing. Ive been using Vegas Pro for the past 15 years roughly. Will a R7 5700g with 32MB 3200mhz RAM be able to give smooth timeline performance ? On a mere i3 6100 Vegas pro timeline scrubbing with 4K GH5 footage is slight sticky and with effects added we need to go to DRAFT > QUARTER to see the video at maybe realtime framerate, during renders it uses the processor 100%. But when timeline scrubbing etc its not using the processor more than 50% and the IGPU is at 7% while its stuttering, then why stutter, all the media is on NVME and SSD that too. What gives ? I only want better timeline performance....so will my 5700g work at least twice better than this i3 ? Your comment will help as i need to upgrade now.

@@simplysurfing Following is the advise I had given to someone: I will advise you to totally go with 5700G as I'm using it currently unless you're just a hardcore Gamer, and PCIE 4.0 only matters if you really use 3090 level cards. The perks are its low price, Rx 550 4GB equivalent iGPU, It runs alot cooler, its hell alot efficient, like it idles at less than "3 Watts" whereas 5700x idles around 30 - 40 Watts(Yes, its that big of a difference), and if you see its performance, especially Non-gaming like Cinebench R23 benchmarks, it beats 5700x. I am a Creater and don't game at all and I've downclocked it to max clock of 3.6 Ghz insted of 4.6 default boost clock, and man its efficiency is going through the roof, I get over 12500 points in Cinebench R23 using less than 33 Watts and never going above 50C, and 4K footage with all effects and color grade applied is a piece of cake for it in Resolve. So considering its amazing CPU and iGPU performance and some Ultra level efficiency, it is the best 5000 series processor for me and I am never gonna upgrade it to somethings like 5950x, only maybe the Ryzen 8000 APU if they are as efficient. So if you only care about getting 10 more FPS in games and and can withstand 35 watts of cpu power consumption when you're reading a book, then Go with X series

Also are you able to edit smooth with 2 tracks of 4K footage ? And with some animated titles moving around etc ? Finally how does After Effects run on the 5700G ? Plz do let me know. Ive seen Technotice's videos on the 5700G but he always just puts 1 clip on the timeline and hard;y and color grade or fx or titles. Just one video track and shows the scrubbing etc. You and i know that even a simple 3 min promo film will grow into about 5-8 tracks....for adjustment layers or titles or compositing.
