Premier Strat Build Series - Part 00 - Series Introduction

We are starting an all-new series…the greatest, most complete, and overly detailed lessons on how to make a Strat style guitar. Fender style guitars are the best guitars to build for people new to the guitar building scene. They are simple…yet amazingly efficient. Leo Fender was an absolute genius…inventing things that are still widely used over 60 years later.
This series is based upon my personal electric guitar teaching curriculum at a local community college. Although I believe an in person learning experience is still best…that is not possible for most people. This series is designed to give you the knowledge and guidance needed to build a great Strat of your own. There will be a minimum number of tools required…some are more important that others…but where there is a will…there is a way.
We will be using the Maximum Guitar Works template system. The basic six piece set includes the body and pickup rout template, the neck pocket template, the back tremolo template, neck template, fretboard template, and the standard pickguard template. The complete basic template system include safety grips and hardened steel drill bushing for alignment and accuracy. This template set that will be used in this video series sells for $300 plus shipping. There are other options available, please ask for any special needs. To order, contact us at info@maximumguitarworks.com, or use the contact page or phone number on our website (www.maximumguitarworks.com)
Learn more about the template systems through my past KZread videos.

So I graduated from the Musician's Institute Guitar Craft Academy in Nashville in 2019 and I've been building guitars since then, built and sold about 18 guitars and basses at this point. However, I've found myself getting sloppy and forgetting techniques and getting caught up in the rush to build for clients. I've been watching your videos and your attention to detail is exactly what I've needed to snap myself back into some building discipline. I've decided to build a Strat with all your templates and follow your methods (except for the fret slotting, I have a purpose-built fret slotting power saw for that and I also use a dead-head sander for neck shaping). I really appreciate your approach and I'm looking forward to slowing down and building a guitar along with your videos. Thanks, so glad I found your channel. FYI, as an older person with my "real" career behind me I have a very well-stocked shop with the planers/jointers, bandsaws, etc... but when I saw your video with Matt using the horizontal bandsaw I had to go get my wife and tell her "Now THAT'S a tool I gotta have!"...

Ok, Steve’s not joking...as I said in the video I made on them - IMO the MGW knobs really are the best knobs available! Fit, finish, appearance, quality, etc. all top notch.

Hi! Thank you for your time! As a teacher I very much appreciate your life philosophy as well as you teaching and craftsman’s skill. I started building electric guitars 1995 but got stuck playing them ending up as a guitar teacher. Now I’m putting together a small wood workshop to per-sue the guitar building path. Regards /Jonas

Hey Paul...thanks for the nice comments. I have totally abandoned any idea of trying to make short videos...I say what I feel like I need to say...people can choose to watch what they want. I also really appreciate spreading information about my channel. Since I refuse to play by the KZread guidance (as explained in my Intro video), the best way for people to hear about my content is by word of mouth. Thanks for your help.

It is has brought another level of structure and organization to my Tele build. I am confident that with your templates and the expert guidance shared in your videos that I will be successful in creating a awesome instrument. Thanks again!

@@maximumguitarworks thank you very much. Social media ist quite a jungle. I don’t understand why you don’t have more subscribers considering the excellent high quality content. I think one reason could be, that KZread doesn’t gain any revenue, when advertisement can’t be placed. I personally wouldn’t mind advertisement. In the end it would be nice to know that a huge audience can appreciate and profit from your efforts. I can also understand that KZread has to maintain a complex infrastructure. I personally haven’t even started with my first guitar project but I learned from you so many things.

Highly do not recommend SUPER VEE BLADE RUNEER too many problems like for example, even with two springs still too hard to use and chances are you will break the handle as it happened to me (also can not do a FLUTTER), even during the warranty period did not get back an answer after a few miles and I had to buy a handle, another very important thing is intonation , Because of the addition of the "flexible" metal the distance from the connection of the screws to the saddles is larger and it turns out that the high E's saddle falls on the "flexible" metal, in the end I switched to the GOTOH 510 which is really the best

Thanks for the information. I have a few on hand...so I will give them a try. I have used the Maverick series before...and really liked them for an alternative to a traditional Tele fixed bridge. Yes, it is Dive Only...but on a Tele that could be a good thing. But I hear what you are saying. My customers seem to really like the Hipshot tremolo's I normally use...but I never stop looking for other options. I might need to design my own Trem to get everything I want.
