Half of them are overweight…don’t think there were any overweight infantry men in the ranks in 1863

My G-grandfather served with the Bloody Eighth, from Battle of Leesburg thru to Saylors Creek.

During 'Pickett's Charge', the regiment suffered 90% casualties.

so first two riders must be some engineering officers or smth who was the gentleman walking after the 2 first riders? the official photographer of the regiment? 3rd and 4th riders must be the colonel and an eide

Where are their back packs?

My ancestor was in the 6th Virginia Reg. Anybody knows if they reenact that Regiment?

Do you think there should be more shoeless reenactors in the hobby? I feel like having no shoes is underrepresented for both sides. Thanks!

Only Confederate soldiers were shoeless during the war, Federal Soldiers ever had to worry about going shoeless. It would be great to see some rebs go shoeless, you hardly ever see it. As a Federal Soldiers Reenactor I don't do shoeless, don't have to!! Federals had plenty of shoes in there warehouse's, Quarter Masters keep track what we had.

@@jamesrichardson3322 I can't accurately recall but I do remember hearing a story that during a campaign, some federals shoes wore out and they couldn't get resupplied because the wagon train couldn't reach them. They definitely had the resources but maybe sometimes they just couldn't reach them.

@@joshuabale4923 Maybe that was the Sherman March from Atlanta Campaign to the Sea, were the federals couldn't be resupplied, ah yes it was!!

@@joshuabale4923 Yes it was, they ran out of food and supplies half during the March, and I can't remember were they started to run out?

As someone mentioned seems like all (or most) of the reenactors had shoes. If I remember right that was a main goal for the ANV while in Pennsylvania, finding shoes. Nice to think of a time before satellites and drones when you could move an army behind a screen of mountains
