Prelude to Black Hawk Down: Raw Footage Documentary on Battle of Mogadishu (1993)
On 3 October 1993, US special forces became embroiled in a disastrous battle in the Somali capital of Mogadishu. Three UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were brought down in the city using rocket propelled grenades. The US launched a huge rescue mission for the survivors, but encountered heavy resistence. Known as the Battle of Mogadishu, the conflict was dramatised in Ridley Scott’s 2001 war film, Black Hawk Down.
Using newly-restored footage filmed by ITN’s camera crew stationed in Somalia at the time, ITN Archive presents a special documentary chronicling the events leading up to the battle. Drawing on dramatic footage and key witness interviews recorded between 1992 and 1993, this film tells the story of how the United Nations’ humanitarian mission in Somalia became overtaken by a controversial military campaign, and how popular support for the UN in the country became steadily replaced by widespread hostility towards the US-led military presence.

You people think we can just sit back and watch countries, including our allies that we have strong economic and cultural ties with, be endangered or even overrun by either hostile nations or terrorist factions? Are we supposed to sit back and say "boy, it sure sucks they were overrun by that neighboring tyrannical dictator, but it's not our problem. Too bad about all those people being executed, murdered and starved to death. Starbucks, anyone?" You people really think we can isolate ourselves behind two oceans while the world rips itself apart? Didn't work 80 years ago, sure as hell won't work now. Explain the murder of 25 Pakistani peacekeepers by the SNA. That's what led to the UN calling for Aidid's arrest.
So we finally hear the other side's version of events. So the Somali's were okay with the aide, but were afraid of the armed presence of the UN, which they didn't ask for. Then when the Pakistanis tried to take away their voice by raiding, oops, I mean "inspecting" the radio station (Radio Mogadishu), the people stood their ground and resisted. They were then killed by the Pakistani soldiers, so the crowd re-grouped, and took out the Pakistanis. Then the UN attempted a coup on Aziz (who was a legitimate leader, not a "warlord" and the UN killed a bunch more people in the process. The people supported him and fought back and won. Bottom line, don't try to overthrow a country with force. It was probably the CIA and UN who created the civil war in the first place to replace their leadership and go in to get the oil. We all saw the Amoco hat on the "aide worker" at 26:25. Obviously an oil company employee LOL. Look at 24:49 and listen to the guys watching the man create fake news and propaganda. If there were no rules, us military could wipe out most of these countries in the world. Don't be very niave in thinking they couldn't. They always lose because of humanitarian issues. You just can't level cities with women and children in them. No doubt america could.
Why is it the US always loses to flip flop wearers? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔😁😁😁😁😁

What did the Somalians win ?
But can I just ask…what right did the US have to be in Somalia in the first place? They obviously don’t want US soldiers in their country!! Somalia had never once invaded the United States, so what right did the US have to send soldiers there???

They usually say "to protect our interests" , which is a catchall phrase that pretty much means "because we feel like it".

Somalia wanted and asked for help from the International Community because there were certain radicalized groups that were trying to take over and we're killing and pillaging and the Somali government and Military couldn't handle it their self we don't just go into a country with our military for no reason Somalia doesn't have anything we want they are a very poor country and only thing they want is peace and stability of economy and food but like most of these countries there are radicalized groups out there that don't care and will take what they want through Force even if it's killing the citizens of the country that they're living in and to this day they still have these issues with these groups whether it's religious persecution or just greed of taking over these groups are still there

@@brianv1988 : the groups are STILL there because that is what the Somali people have chosen!! The US has absolutely no right to go into someone else’s country and start shooting it up….especially since Somalia had never once invaded the United States!!! The US had a CHOICE to be there or not! It CHOSE to send soldiers to another country… regardless of whether the previous Government of Siad Barre asked them to go there!!! Siad Barre was a Marxist dictator: which election did he win to be able to speak for Somalians??? None! Why can’t the US worry about the US?

@@miel1074I can tell you don't like the US and you don't know the real reason why we were there you only know your version so there's no point in giving you information that is easily obtained by research there is a reason why Somalia is still having these problems and one of the poorest countries in the region it's because you got these groups that are trying to use Force to control the population it's just like any other radicals terrorist group or War lording groups they steal from the population without giving anything back they only care about making themselves richer and staying in control while there population is starving

@@brianv1988 nah. US didn't give a fcuk. It was only after massive public pressure that they sent some forces to "protect" UN Aid, but gave up, then sent SF to try to kill or capture Aideed. Got their asses kicked, as usual, and the brave Malaysian soldiers of the UN Forces rescued them.
Kudos to the Somalis for whooping the Yankees.

What. Somalia's conflict was caused by Somalis themselves. Warlordism & clanism.

ROFLMAO! Next you're going to claim that they are a seafaring people who relied on fishing to feed themselves, lol! You are too young to remember history and too lazy to read it. There has never been peace in that land and there never will be. It has nothing to do with Western influence.
