PREHISTORIC SHARK CAPTURED

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Rare Frilled Shark Found. This is a frilled shark (Chlamydoselachus anguineus) and it spends most of its time in the deep sea. Sadly, it came up with the trawl nets set by fishermen in Australia. But now, at least we get a rare glimpse of one of the most fascinating sharks that we know hardly anything about.

I really pains me to know the only reason we know what we do about this cool shark is that we're catching it by accident in fishing nets.. Imagine all the other fish species that get caught accidentally and killed for no reason. We need a better system.

Rodger Moreno It's easier because when stuff is in space it reflects light. All we know is based on reflected light on those bodies. Otherwise it's invisible. Even Black holes cant be seen save for nearby ionized gases going into them. The Ocean does not have anything of the sort. If you want to see it, especially the deeper you are, you need very specialized gear or to go down yourself, which means only a few meters in any direction at any one time. It's too difficult for Oceans. If it deals with land and Space, it's far easier and simpler. Also we have no reason to map the oceans. It's a pointless and fruitless endeavor.

WintersFinalstand We all the reason in the world to map out the oceans. Mapping them out can potential lead us to new fuel resources, it would give us a better understanding of our planet and how it worlds, we could discovers hundreds of new species, and it could even help us better understand our impact on the environment. Studying the ocean has innumerable benefits. Unfortunately, as you stated, it's very, very hard, though.

zoobpy Your right. True, we could. Unfortunately, it isn't easy. The Ocean floor is dangerous in the first place too, even to a sub. Your scanner for geology whatever it is if it exists, detects a possible Oil field? Well..thing is..that could just as well be a water filled cavern or even a totally filled air pocket, which if broken open could be disastrous. The risk of problems is extremely high. That is one reason companies and Scientists don't like the Ocean. Also, there isn't really much to understand. We know how Islands, continents, and corals form. And their ecology. We have a good idea of the animal world. New species? true..that is possible, but the expense is simply not worth the effort. As for our impact, there is nothing we can't already predict or know at this point. Our Scientific Departments are miles beyond you or I on this subject. If something of high value was found, they would have already acted. Right now, we are doing a different series of tests to prepare ourselves to get off Earth. We are extremely fragile here, and if we don't expand, it won't take much to wipe us out. Once we are safe and we begin building Humanity in more then one planet, I am somewhat sure scientific curiosity will change from this new frontier to home.

+zoobpy I have to say, Why the hell are we exploring space, which is almost nothing like our planet, when we only know the surface of the earth? Instead of worrying about aliens, (only one specie) why don't we think about our own aliens? This shark is an example.

At first I thought it was a new discovered specie. Interessant nonetheless. Also, it's weird because the shark at 0:42 and 1:49 looks more like a Bluntnose sixgill shark (Hexanchus griseus) (shining eye, body looking more "fat" compared to photos of frilled shark I've been able to find...) . I have not been able to find the video file to be sure. I know it must have been told that it was a frilled shark by experts but now that I've seen it I'd like to be sure myself :C Would there be a way that someone (OP maybe ?) send me a link to the video file ? That'd be greatly appreciated :)

Animal Wire Found it thanks a lot ! By the way, I think that the most noticeable way to make the difference between frilled shark and six-gill shark one this video is the shape of the both anal fins (They look more triangular with the six-gill. Very noticeable on this video : /watch?v=vuyW7kjcdOw).

Gaouchos35 Yeah, good eye. The one in that video (beautiful footage) does look much more triangular. I have no idea what kind of variation exists among the species and across their range.

You get a thumbs down for calling an animal you caught in the modern era "prehistoric." And I'd give another thumbs down if I could for the irony of mislabeling it "prehistoric" when the concept of prehistory implies a belief in evolution, while labelling an animal "prehistoric" implies that it has not evolved at all for millions of years, which would impossible if the neo-Darwinian concept of evolution by means of natural selection was correct.

There are fossils of this shark or a similar shark like this found estimated 80 million years ago.
