GIANT BAT OR SOMETHING ELSE?

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Did these people capture a giant bat? The pictures are captivating to say the least. We have a very big animal here, it is furry and yes…it has wings. What could it be?

Those Animals Are Actually Colugos. They usually Live In The Jungles Of the Southeast Asia. Though, they're not usually as massive as they are in the video. In fact, they're only about 12-15 inches Tall.

Colugo is classified as "threatened" due to habitat destruction and the Philippine flying lemur was classified by the IUCN as vulnerable at one time (Wikipedia). It's sad to see these creatures hunted by these illegal hunters - they don't care what they kill as long as they can sell it... The rangers are doing an important job at stopping many species from going extinct

To add a detail or two that may help identify the area, check the camo patterns on the clothing. Most countries have unique camo, even if left over from some previous military, it can give a hint on the country. Also the weapons. Many are so common as to be of no help. But some are more unique to certain areas.

I don't care how long those people have been hunting animals or why they do it, it's illegal and it's people doing stuff like this that's forcing thousands of species into extinction every single day. Personally, I hope this photo helps local rangers and police track these guys down and arrest them. The only unfortunate part of that is prison time for wildlife crimes is a joke all over the world (even in the U.S.) so they'll probably only get either fined under 100 US dollars or get two weeks in prison and then released right back out there to kill more endangered species....

These people will have an infintecimal impact upon wildlife populations. They live there and hunted for thousands of years, who has legitimate moral authority to tell them not to feed themselves? Commercial business on the other hand demolish forests, pollute oceans and slaughter millions of animals just to produce trinkets and luxuries

Samson .Pz These are not native peoples who have lived in these forests for generations and still live in the ways of their ancestor's, these are people that live in towns and cities who make the decision to go into the protected forests of their countries and illegally catch and/or kill native wildlife to sell for a profit or consume because they think it has some sort of medicinal property. I have no problem with allowing a native tribe live and hunt in forests because they do so in a more natural way, and usually have respect for nature and animals but I have no tolerance for people like the ones shown in the above video who are out just to help themselves and further damage an already fragile environment.

zoobpy I think thats speculative, but no point arguing that, my point stands that their detrimental effect upon the environment is NOTHING in comparison to commercial fishing, deforestation, fossil fuels etc

Samson .Pz You are correct in that deforestation/habitat destruction is a much more damaging than this, as it is the number one cause of extinction today, but I do believe the second biggest cause of extinction is poaching and thus what they're doing, while it may seem small when singled out, is in fact one of the biggest harm to the natural world.

I don't know why you do this. But, this is illegal!!! You shouldn't even have that thing on a string!!! What if you were that creature??? How would you feel??!! Just rapped up in strings and your whole body suffering! They should be ashamed of themselves! I don't care if I'm being rude! These are God's creatures so you're going to sit there and hurt it!! I don't wanna be rude, but I'm going to be rude! You should be sentenced to the same thing you are doing to that creature!! I don't give a crap if you get sentenced!! As long as you get what you shall!! Cause these are your saviors creature you should not treat them in anyway like that!! You need to be sentenced to the devil!! I wanna see where this gets you!!

In Papua-New Guinea, we had bats called _Flying Foxes._ They ate breadfruit, had a 6 foot (183 cm) wing span and were everywhere. This is not a _Flying Fox,_ but it's probably something similar.

This photo seems like its a small Colugo but I saw a video on facebook of one that does appear to be the size in the thumbnail. It gives a good top and bottom view as it was struggling to crawl on the ground and the was lifted up just like in the thumbnail. Honestly looked about 1.5 metres in length.
