The whole 2012 thing was complete BS. The Mayans never predicted the end of the world, it was simply the beginning of another cycle. It was supposed to be a GOOD thing. I'm not sure how it ended up lost in translation but thats not what it meant. Plus regardless of what it said the end of the cycle doesn't even match up with OUR calendar. The calendar we use today is much different than that of the Maya as it is derived from a different place and culture. (I think the Romans but don't quote me). Basically if you were to calculate it to our calendar the whole end of the world thing in 2012 would've taken place earlier and on a different day and month. I'm disappointed NatGeo didn't make this more clear. :/ Also for added information the Maya people still exist today in central american countries. The people themselves never disappeared, however their empire declined like Rome for example. However, the Maya peoples are still in existence, granted in fewer numbers but the culture is still there and persevered to some extent. Why people keep thinking they all died out or disappeared beats me.

What is crazy is that the Mayans Calander involved the procession of the equinoxes. Every 72 years it progresses 1degree and takes 24,000 years or so for a full circle, this is what their calendar is. Pretty nuts really. The had the year down to the fraction of the day.

Actually its the Aztecs that ripped people's hearts out...

You just can’t predict it... That’s my answer :)

The thing the Maya calendar predicted accurately is when it would be time to make a new calendar.

if you read predicting calendars you have to read them like for-side visionary, Tarot: (for example) the cart of death symbolizes not the death of the asking person or the target being asked for. It determines a period of live way, a huge change in live. 2012 several changes happened, connection with nature, stock marked: we cant win so much time by just reboot them, .... the world is changing, the old world is dying and from the fields comes new corn, and the ashes a new phoenix. To repeed the lesson or go on.

Apocalypse starts when God curses Adam and Eve and all after them because "curse,Abaddon,Apollyon" have the same meaning,the meaning of catastrophe.

It's like a seen from Apocalipto...

Funny thing is, even when predictions fail, people still refuse to believe they've been duped. Look around. There are tons of formerly apocalyptic cults that have now become regular religions with millions to billions of followers. From the obvious ones like the Seventh Day Adventists and the multiple Mahdis in Islam, to even the entirety of Christianity (the Messiah in Jewish belief only arrives just before the end of the world, and indeed, early Christians believed the world would end within 300 years of Jesus' death).

The prediction was that the world would end for the ancient Jews and it did after Jesus died. Ancient Jews symbolized the world and in fact the entirety of the universe in their temples (how they were built, painted etc). They were everything to the ancient Jewish population. Then Jesus came and spoke a few prophecies that would prevent his followers from dying when the "world" ended. What he was predicting was the destruction of a main Jewish temple. Because the Christians at the time recognized the impending doom they left the city while the Jews stayed not believing Jesus was the messiah. Well, the Romans came in and destroyed the city and the Jews while not a single Christian died(this event is a matter of history and can be looked up)... Also the book of revelations which is often cited as foretelling the end is actually a representation of the eucharist. The Bible is often misinterpreted because we forget that it was written for a Jewish, greek and roman audience and thus uses imagery from that time.

In modern Scientific (and Ecclesiastical) Latin, yes. The actual native Latin speakers in Rome, however, pronounced it exactly how it's spelled: "ae" as in English "eye", "my", "die".

Preserved in writing, then revived as a "spoken" language during the Renaissance, centuries after the fall of (Western) Rome. By that time, the language of the people in Rome was NOT anymore Latin, but Tuscan, which later became modern Italian. And because of that, they read the written Latin with an Italian pronunciation. In short, Mayan calendar goes to century 2500. In conclusion, although their will be natural catastrophes on the earth, the human will live. December 21, 2012 is the end of one cycle and the beginning of a next cycle; the previous cycle was not that bad but the next cycle will be much much worse, e.g., global warming, conflicts, World War III, etc., but life on earth will continue.

I can give you a few points of fact but if you don't understand the big band I doubt I can fully explain it to you in terms you would comprehend. First, MBR. Second Expansion. Third 186k miles/s. The big bang has been "proven" a term scientists don't really like because science is a field where you try to prove something wrong, rarely is it the other way around. The problem here is I doubt you have the fundamental understanding of science needed to process what the information means. Let's be frank here, you claim science is a religion... I might as well be trying to teach calculus to a sheep.

I find it mildly amusing that people look to ungodly people's for Godly predictions, events, and happenings...and when it doesn't happen as they think it, it must not be true. Wait till the tribulation happens, and the pre-tribbers are still here going, "This must not be the tribulation." They can't believe they are wrong, so the bible must be wrong. Let all men be liars, and God be true. Where are the 2 witnesses? They might have an answer, or two. But, people won't believe them either, and when they show God's power working through them, the others will believe that the devil is working through them, even though the bible verifies what they are doing.
