I can’t believe it’s been 2 and a half years since Chapter 2. It still feels like yesterday. I can’t even believe both chapters are a part of the same game! Chapter 2 felt like I was playing a fan-made game the first time I played it. Deltarune is all about the weird and unusual, and I’m all for that.

Barely related to what you’re saying- but they feel a little bit too different. The battles mechanics between the games are inconsistent, some side characters feel really shallow, and the gameplay is kinda boring if you’re not going out of your way to find all the lore and secret bosses. I really hope all the kinks like those get ironed out by the final release 😬

If the last chapters get released on the 10 year anniversary I will cry, That would be painful to wait that long, but also it would feel like such a "correct" way to end it off. Especially since it'll be Toby's dream ending. And in my opinion, if his dream had an ending good enough for him to be willing to wait so long to realize it, and make an entire game that reshaped indie gaming as its PREDECESSOR? That ending is going to leave me devastated, and I'll be thinking about it for a long time.

We didn't even get Chapter 3 and 4 yet. I don't think Toby would finish Chapter 5, 6 and 7 until 2028 based on how it's 2024 and we got the letter about Chapter 4 being still in development while Chapter 3 is close to fully polished and translated. Getting all damn Deltarune not after 2028 with no quality decrease would be AN IMPOSSIBLE BLESSING FROM THE HEAVENS Also... Toby Fox is a genius, he is amazing at making interesting characters with striking personalities. I just wanna know where he got that writing style and skill, because as I know, his experience before gamedev was only composing music and some rom hacking, but I can't even call that plot of Halloween Hack some thought-out story you can analyze and characters you can really like(not in sense of good/evil, but in sense of liking their vibes and personality)

And I think the Chapter 7/last chapter's release date won't be the date of Deltarune's death for a LOOOONG time, considering Deltarune already feels close to Undertale's size, and Undertale's fandom is still alive, making some high quality fan games and comics.

I still think there's a non-0% chance that the game won't end up with exactly 7 chapters and I have only 1 reason to believe that: As far as I know, Toby has never mentioned chapters 6+7 anywhere at all except in the chapter select screen. And if that screen is our only reason to believe the game will have 7 chapters, in a series where things like saving can easily be canon, that means something weird could happen to that screen at some point. I mean, in chapter 1 we literally had someone (presumably Gaster) commentating our actions in the save select screen. It could scroll down for more chapters, it could be broken down somehow inside the story making it end before chapter 7, it could become inaccessable due to a story event (like Flowey messing with your save in Undertale), etc... I will actually be surprised if the chapter select stays as straightforward as it is. Not mad or disappointed, just surprised.

Interestingly, the array of chapters in the game's code actually contains 8 entries, being 1 - 7 and also a 0. Also, there are graphics for text that says "CHAPTER x" for 0, 8, 9, and 10 in the game files.

You know, a while ago Toby stated that his goal with deltarune was to bring the player along side the development process of a game, we see bits of that in game, and having deltarune as a whole take ten+ years- makes a weirdly large amount of sense to me

I wanna remind people that Toby said two things just over 5 years ago when Chapter 1 released; 1. "So, given the length of the rest of the game, and how long I'd be willing to spend on a project (7 years maximum)..." max seven years. Which means, if he's not made enough progress entering year 7 (which happens in 7 months), something's gotta change in the development process, and or it has to be cancelled in favor of telling the story some other way. Though, I think Toby, with the release of Chapters 2-4, he's probably become more determined than ever to finish this, especially having hired a guy to manage the time he spends on it. 2. "...I will ask for people to buy the game, at the price of the first 5 chapters (including 1 and 2)" the "first" five. Not the next three, or last three, the first FIVE. I doubt the game will be more than 5-7 chapters long (no mentions of 6 and 7 yet so idk), but I will say, if it reaches a point where the game is actually, say, 10 Chapters, it's clear we'll be in for the long run (and or he gives in to burn out, which, again, I doubt). No doubt that 2024 will be the release year of Chapters 3-4, and with efficiency going up every year, we'll at least see Chapter 5 come out by 2026 or something. Who knows where things are going, cause tbh, you can't predict stuff like development times. It's just impossible (Proof - Silksong).

I think it'd be very poetic for the final 2 chapters to release on Deltarune's 10th anniversary. It's so fitting yk?

It would happen if last three chapters after Chapter 3 and 4 will be smaller/lower quality. Don't forget how long was Chapter 3 in polishing and translation stage while Chapter 4 seems pretty far away from that last touches stage. I think Deltarune will be finished in 2029/2030, but not 2028 or earlier

The fate of how long the finale will take is dependent on how long the fricking fever dream he had like 13 years ago was.

There aint no way that chapter 5 releases in 2025 its gonna probably release like summer 2026 or some time around then. You are definitely right on the Act theory though

I still think chapter 5 will be released on 2026/2027 since there is no progress of that chapter shown yet as most of the development was focused on chapters 3 and 4.

Its been almost 6 years since chapter 1. I feel old

I remember hearing people say that Toby said that the remaining chapters would all be released together, in retrospect it probably would've been smarter of me to actually look into those claims instead of just accepting them as true.

So the spring news letter came out today at the time of righting this and more than ever I’m convinced you’ve got the 3-4-5 release down pat. Toby all but said he expects by the time he writes the summer newsletter for chapter 4 to be mostly done and in a beta testing phase, which would line it up very nicely for fall. He also expects more of the staff to be on chapter 5 by then so by the time we get 3/4 five will probably be well into development. 6/7 are a bit No man’s land still, but the tenth still feels very right for that.

I really hope you’re right, waiting yet another year (2025) just for 3 and 4 would be pain. I also agree with the idea that chapter 5 is likely gonna drop by itself and not with 6. With Toby’s previous plan and the structure we all assume it’s gonna follow. Chapter 5 might end crazy. And give us time to speculate, find clues, and theorize until the last chapters drop, if they are the end. There might be some extra chapter, or secrets happening. Imagine the news of that

To think I started playing deltarune when I was 17 and potentially finishing it in my late 20s is insane...We really are growing up with this game. Your analysis are quite interesting !

It wasn't until today that I realized Deltarune first became available to the public only 3 years after Undertale. There's been more time that Deltarune has been involved in the almost-9-year-old-world's canon than it hasn't been, by quite a large margin. Strange to remember not really caring about Undertale when it came out, then playing all three routes in succession when I finally played it because the whole game was ready - but Deltarune is almost 6 years old, and I've only played a third of it or less. I think Deltarune might just be my most anticipated game, yet it feels more like a series of novels than a single game. There's no "oh yeah, that's STILL not out yet" like when I'm reminded of Silksong, and the chapter system is to thank.

Deltarune will only go up to chapter 5, saddly, the main actor, Kris, will pass away because of a heart attack, witnesses say that his heart "had enough of his shit" and beat him up.

Chapter 3 & 4 releasing this year, even if is not November is very likely

I've put this theory out there a lot but humour me I'm almost _certain_ (ok, not that certain, but maybe 60%), that there arent "just 7 chapters". My main evidence is that Toby has _never stated this_ . Nowhere has he ever even mentioned chapter 6 or 7. The only ideas of chapter 7 we have are the chapter select menu, and the fact that we know Asriel returns "in a week" HOWEVER: the game files reveal images for chapter 8, 9 and even 10 logos. Thats meaningless in an of itself; but it shows that "being on the menu" isnt substantial enough evidence. Secondly, we know that Chapter 3 takes place at night, and that Chapter 4 has a song called "Hometown day" (implying Hometown Night), meaning 3 chapters take place over 2 days. This means theres room for 8 chapters in 7 days. It is entirely possible that chapter 7 wont truly be the ending. Conversely, I think its also entirely possible that chapter 7 _might not exist_ Not in its entirety, but I have a feeling that the Weird route will have... interesting effects on the chapter system. We have been told repeatedly that Deltarune will "only have one ending". With the introduction of the Weird Route, this sounds strange. Theres an obvious answer, which is probably the correct one: that no matter the route, the roaring will happen, the difference being the context and the party. However, theres another possibility that has been entirely forgotten; that the Weird Route doesnt "end" at all. That chapter 6 halts it in some way, perhaps forcing you to reset or leave the route, or by prematurely finishing the game (not to be the average fan theorist, but "haha funny gaster" is entirely possible.) I would also like to point out that 2011, when he had his fever dream, was right in the middle of when Homestuck began to really kick into gear. Its Act 5 Act 2, not long after Toby made the piece of music he himself calls "The most influential piece of my career as a musician" (Umbral Ultimatum). Homestuck, a story who's themes involved abandoning failed timelines, resetting the universe for a more favourable outcome, a story in which the Narrator is a significant character, in which manipulation and control dictate character dynamics, a story with _heavy references to chess_ . I think the relation is strong enough for this to hold; another of homestucks key themes was that of Accepting Failure (God tiering, doomed timelines, Paradox space) but rejecting the unavoidable end (The Scratch, Trollian, Bec Noir). This is by far the weakest point Ive made in this comment, but I cant help but mention it Anyway, thats my theory. I think 6 and "7" will drop together, but with a longer wait. Perhaps with something "extra" from Toby after the "final" release, since I dont truly believe 7 will be the final chapter at all

Great video!! I’ve been going insane over theorizing about the release date of everything myself, so to see someone bring up all the same points that I’ve been making to myself, helps validate my insanity lol. I actually believe in an October 31st release date for Ch3/4 more, to me it feels more symbolic to release the game on the anniversary of the first chapter itself. But I’m honestly not too picky about the exact date, just that the game itself releases in Q4 2024(perhaps…even on a december holiday 🫣) Well, I’m writing this as the video goes along, so I wrote that december holiday joke before seeing you make the same conclusion, except about chapter 5. Couldn’t agree more, especially with 2025 being such an important year for his franchise. As toby continues to expand his team and they get faster and faster at development, I’m sure that one chapter could be feasibly completed in a year’s time. And…yeah. as much as I want releases to come so much faster, 2028 for the final release of 6/7 also sounds likely. A decade of development time just sounds right for it. Of course, this is all assuming the plan for deltarune is actually only seven chapters…seeing as there’s assets for chapters up to 10 in the files(as well as one for a mysterious chapter 0), and how toby has never stated the amount of chapters deltarune will actually have himself. Suspicious. However, I personally wouldn’t count on there being more than 7 chapters right now, as not only would that make speculating the development time impossible, but it would also create a potentially unrealistic expectation for the game that would likely make the actual product hit differently for people who were expecting things that were never going to happen. 7 is a great number, and even if I’m personally hoping for a prequel chapter with Kris and Dess in the bunker, I prefer keeping my expectations realistic. Sorry for the text wall! I like talking about this. Here’s hoping we’re not too far off the mark!

I do feel like you are right between the the announcement-release gap for 3+4 considering the fact that it is likely they are going to do an all platforms release type deal. Chapter 2 released on the switch like a week later after chapter 2 and it was clear it probably was done just to go along side the direct, and I believe in one of the devlogs they did mention console testing (admittedly this is me hoping to get a switch release as soon as possible so as to avoid spoilers from the gap, but like I said, considering how swift the switch release was last time....)

With the talk about the three act structure I want to make an uneducated guess about how each chapter will go. Chapter 3 - A break from the story and more of a focus on gameplay as Toby mentioned. Kind of a half-time show but it's not actually half-time. Chapter 4 - The normal shabang, the cast goes around town and suddenly stumbles into a dark fountain. That is until towards the end where the ultimate threat will begin to rise. Chapter 5 - Shit starts hitting the fan as the ultimate threat has risen and the party attempts to after it before getting annihilated by the end with a good ol reveal during it. Chapter 6 - The party slowly gets back on their feet, discussing their plans as they learn that the Roaring will happen within a days time. Preparations are made. Chapter 7 - The Roaring begins and the party launches an all out assault on the ultimate threat alongside all the characters you've recruited over the game. Ultimately, it is defeated against all odds and the lighteners and darkeners will be able to live in peace.

Hey, i was looking at the most recent comments in your old prediction video and for some reason there are ppl that are commenting like if it was your fault that the prediction was wrong, like did they think you saw into the future or something ?, is it hard to understand what a educated guess is ?, in my opinion it's way more fun to hope that you're right and be a clown together than to just complain that your prediction was wrong, i mean after 2 years there isn't much else to talk about in deltarune other than trying to guess when the new chapters are going to release.

(before i watch this) im guessing they'll say something like 2-4 years each, since thats how long it took for the 2 and 3 chapters to be done (even tho 3 isnt out yet, toby said himself it was mostly done probably 99% of it)

The only “problem” (if you can call it that) I have with video is that I thank chapter 1 and 2 are in two different act/phases. Act 1 is there to introduce us to our protagonist’s (Kris and Susie) and set up the world and narrative including the dark world, there are things we can do that affect the rest of the game like Starwalker and onionsan which we can only do in chapter 1. (not to say there won't be other things that will affect the rest of the game like snowgrave) act/phase 2 on the other hand seems to follow the premise of a dark world being made with the main antagonist ruling over it (yeah, the same thing happens in chapter 1 but still), 2 (or maybe 3) characters who are expected to not know about the dark world fall in sometime in the chapter, one being really important having the chapter revolve around them and the other (1 or maybe 2) being a less important side character that the chapter also somewhat revolves around and our protagonist’s (Kris and Susie) going in after its made, stuff happens Kris closes the fountain more stuff happens and the chapter ends, chapter 2 follows the premise and chapter 3 seems to be following the same premise, it will probably stay like this until chapter 6 we’re in chapter 5 throughout the chapter things get more serious leaning into chapter 6 It probably isn’t surprising it hear that I’ve been thinking about this for a while now 😅 and I’m glad I finally get to say it here but that’s just my idea how act/phase 2 works🤷‍♂️.

Before I watch this video, I want to give my thoughts that I 100% predict chapter 3 and 4 releasing September 2025 for Undertale’s 10th anniversary, they did the anniversary schtick last time, chapter 3 is apparently about finished, and they said they were hoping for one of the most productive years to finish up the game. It only makes sense. Now let’s see if you can change my mind :)

Deltarune chapter 1 came out in my senior year of high school. Deltarune chatter 2… came out when it came out. If your guess is right chapter 3 + 4 will come out after I’ve finished collage and am hopeful starting my first job in my chose career… If it dose cone out in November, I kinda hope it’s the day of or day before election day… I’m already staying off the internet that day and I wouldn’t mind something to take my mind off it.

Did 1 deltarune chapter means 1 day of the game? I think so maybe thats why its splits into 7 ch = 1 weeks 7 days

i've been using the 3-year interval for all my predictions of toby fox releases yeah i've been predicting october-november release for 3 and 4 since the winter newsletter wait people have been thinking of a 5 and 6 bundle wtf is that i like 5 being an individually released chapter and 6 and 7 proceed to be released as the big finale together 2025 was an interesting guess that almost made no sense but seeing the 10th anniversary and the development time has made me waver late 2027 - mid/late 2028 could definitely be the big last release of deltarune ngl you can never tell if you cooked until the cooking's results have shown themselves

Nov 1 is the day before my birthday, so getting a new chapter could possibly be the best present ever.

The background for new grounds changed to a deltarune theme, I think deltarune chapter 3 is coming..

I seriously can’t agree more with these release windows. Chapters 3&4 are almost certainly coming out this year (as in near the end of this year). Like you said in the vid, chapter 5 makes sense to be on its own since Toby definitely paired it with 3&4 for a reason. Finally, the final chapters coming out for Deltarune’s 10th is actually an idea I didn’t think of. For Undertale’s 10th I’m guessing Toby will probably announce a new project he’s gonna work on cause, no offence to the 3 Chapter 5 lovers rn, but it doesn’t seem like 10th anniversary material (seeing that the 5th got an entire orchestra playing Toby’s songs)

ill be 16 or 17 when you stated that deltarune will finish. Even if rn i am pretty young, deltarune and undertale have been the best games i have ever played. i will use all of my money, down to the last cent to buy the chapters and finally finish the story.

If there's something i hate and love is the wait for the next chapters, i hate it because it looks like it takes FOREVER just to drop 2 more chapters, but i love how community just creates their theories and speculations, they cook hard and good.

Important question, Price. I believe that (while I won’t get specific) 3 and 4 will have you pay for the first 5 chapters, and chapter 5 will be free dlc. After that Toby’ll release 6 and 7 as a paid dlc, making sure you paid for the full experience while having it not have two paid extensions.

I think for numbers, I would say $35-50 total, and if you pay for ch3&4 by themselves then they'll be $15.

@@Quartz512_ I think $45 is a good spot for the game in total. Anything more and it starts becoming out of way too many peoples' price range, and $45 is already pretty steep.

Chapter 3 is basically done, Chapter 4 is half / 3 quarters done. Chapter two in its entirety took around 8 months to a year (The rest of the development was the story writing while Toby's wrist recovered). Judging by this, I'm predicting May-June for 3 and 4.

That's waaay too soon imo. They still need to patch bugs, translate, and port the chapter. Later this year is more likely

I’m dying at the concept of deltarune ending at 2028, that’s just mind boggling

Its pretty reasonable for chapter 5 to release next year. Despite all the bug testing and whatnot, also depends on the sheer size of these chapters. Chapter 2 was massive, these ones could be even BIGGER time wise. I think Toby wants to make this game as detailed as possible, and make it especially memorable and fun.

I know it's not much have connect to theme of this video. But in month ago, i had a dream, where someone called me on phone saying that chapters 3-4 are released. In that part of the dream i was in shop, and can't believed in this, so i decided to check in google about this, and that was true. New chapters are been released. I decided to not spoils for me about new chapters and check them when i back to home. When i back, i opened my laptop(in case, this laptop are exists in my real life) and already buy new chapters. But after i started playing, this dream become kinda strange. I'm didn't forget half of this dream, and such good remember all parts about Deltarune. But this moment was that even in actual dream. All my walkthrough i not seen fully even in dream. I've only seen random parts from this (And i kinda good remembered them all so). Intresting note that i LITTERALY not remember any part with 3 chapter(Like in case that chapter are not much have meaning to the main plot in actual Deltarune), all that i seen was from 4 chapter. So, first scene was about Kris & Susie(Ralsei was not there) walks on the strange sand map in new dark world. Around them was a green and cyan trees with sort of apples on them. Next scene most confusing in that dream. Noelle(In her dark world appearense which means that she in same place where like are others) walks in the musseum. It was not cutscene, because i remember that in dream i've controled her. She goes to the end of room, and someone's dark figure starts to approach her in back. And after this, scene in my memories are just ends. I also remember that Noelle face in all that scene was are shocked, wich means that she runned away from that black figure. In next scene, Kris, Susie, and Berdly(seems like he and Noelle are now fully playable characters) but still without Ralsei are walks in the same musseum, and solving a kind of puzzle with hidden switches bettwen the stands with exponents. Theres while a someone like that figure from Noelle scene, who's chasing our gang. In next scene, Kris, Susie, and some ones(I really not remember who was with them but i guess there are was sort of 4 chars including Kris and Susie), they are running from this black figure, and all are nervious. In next scene, Kris and Susie (Only them) are come in next room of musseum, and sees Lancer standing in the middle of room. Susie runs to him, and these two starts talking. I don't remember what about they was talking, but i remember that Susie are was much nervious about something. That was all that i remember from game. Next thing that i was remember from dream, was my reaction after completing new chapters. I was shocked, shocked about 4 chapter. After this, in dream in decided to see what Deltarune fans are thinks about new chapters. And all theories, videos, and etc, was about that scene with Noelle in Musseum(And in the theories are was mentioned 4 chapter, so thats why i are assumed that this musseum arc was in this chapter). Everyone was shocked. After this my dream ends. I telling this dream, because of 2 things - 1, back in the 2019, i was trying to figure out what would be in next Deltarune chapter. And i'm are predicted many things in chapter 2. For example, i assumed that fun gang and Noelle are come to the mew dark world with futuristic style and cyber city(Based on leaked City track from this chapter). And in ch2 main villian will be sort of new Mettaton(And we get the Queen, who's reference to Mettaton in sort of personality, and Spamton who refers to Neo form, and Using yellow soul in the battle) who will kidnapping Noelle. And 2 thing, is that when stranger called me in dream, and i was in shop, on the outside was a early spring. After winter newsettler, i starts thinking that chapters 3-4 will be released in march/april of next year. I don't believe in prophetic dreams, but what if...

I don't know why people would think that 5 & 6 would be released together because 5 was originally going to release with 3 & 4. I think 5 is going to have some huge reveal at the end of it, which is why 3 & 4 were originally going to release with it, so that 3 & 4 could build up to that reveal. It's like if you had a show that had 5 episodes in a row that built up to the season finale, but there was a break between those 5 episodes and the season finale. But when the season finale did come out, the next season came out the next day. It just wouldn't make sense.

I feel like Toby's not telling us about a short epilog after chapter 7. Also I'm convinced chapter 6 will recreate all the dark worlds & dark fountains for us to visit

I bet Toby would troll us and Release Chapter 3 on Undertale's 9th anniversary and chapter 4 on Deltarune's 6th anniversary this year. Also if Chapter 5 releases when Dess finally appears then it will release on Krismas. And if Deltarune concludes after 10 years and the ending is beautiful, I would literally cry, not just because how long it took to make Deltarune, but the reason why Toby made both Undertale and Deltarune in the first place.

Remember, even though the wait is very long, we have a newsletter. The next one will probably be out within a month or two and Chapter 3 will more than likely be 100% done! I just hope Toby Fox gives us more details on Chapter 4 since we barely know anything about it.
