We still use that term when initiating an ambush in the Army. The "mad minute" is when the assault element (of an ambush) annihilates the kill zone and everyone in it on the designated signal. In this case, Mack's "contact" report and subsequent fire was the signal.

  • @bleedzacid

No leader of a group will fire blindly no knowing what they are firing at. This is a death blossom after receiving contact and shooting out with out a target. Mack was shook at what he saw and began firing his teammates just shot at nothing. Hence the death blossom. Mad minutes like you stated are planned attacks.

That type of hesitation is what get more people killed. If they hadnt responded that way, more people would have probably died. Their best weapon platform was just eliminated and their position was compromised. Theyre a small team with no backup and no nearby exit. A skilled pointman is shooting tracer rounds into a specific direction. With that much foliage, grazing fire would be ideal though it was over dramatized. Thats enough information to recognize theirs a very big threat in that vector and theres nothing wrong with trying to overwhelm an enemy that has been shrinking, confusing and demoralizing your unit. Its hollywood dramatic but this type of behavior was common in Afghanistan engagements. Sometimes there would be an entire squad doing mag dumps just to be on the safe side.

If this film were made today, it would be considered an excess of masculinity... God, how I miss the films of the 90s. Predator was notable for its references, suspense, surprise and the environment created around all the characters that nowadays I consider this film to be one of the best. I still see the film as if it had been released at the cinema yesterday. , the adrenaline is still present. What a classic👌( r.i.p Carl Weathers)

We all went that night to see it. I was stoked. Cant believe its been this long already. This movie and Aliens are what saved the studios and it basically revolutionized what an Action Movie was about. When Duke picked up that mini gun the theater went bananas.... "Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeahhhhhhhh!!!!!!" This scene STILL gives me that feeling today

The thing that got me with the character Mac is that where normal people loose it and panic, he crosses a threshold and becomes focused. Obsessive. The moment when he releases the trigger of the mini-gun is a cross-roads where the mind of could have been driven to insanity from the terror, he switches himself to an obsessive reality. Superb character. Also, when they realise that they only wounded it, It becomes the moment when they all start to become aware of the futility of their weapons. Superb selection of the mini-gun in the writing.

Might be more realistic than you think. I once did an infantry exercise with midshipmen at MCDEC in Quantico, VA. When we made contact with the "enemy" the guys in my platoon took off and ran around in the woods firing (blanks) totally at random. It was just chaos. For me it corroborated accounts of Afghan fighters who cooperated with US forces, who said when the Americans got spooked they would fire in every direction with no idea what they were shooting at.
