Preaching and the Problem of Evil: A Conversation with Derek Thomas

It's arguably the preacher's most challenging task . . . to accurately and compassionately explain what the Bible says about the problem of evil. Drawing from a lifetime of studying and preaching the book of Job, Derek Thomas's practical wisdom can help any pastor effectively exposit this Old Testament book and address the problem of evil.

He believes as Calvin did, that those who are saved before you are ever born, and most will be doomed from the Womb, and that many babies will go to hell so God can glorify Himself. This is not biblical, Jesus glorifies Himself by the Holy Spirit, who takes what he has and gives to people John 14. Jesus desire all to believe and died and rose for all, he doesn’t believe that either. For more @Soteriology101 Blessings

Derek doesn’t understand the foundational purpose of the Book of Job. Job is not a book about pain, suffering, tribulation and the difficulties of every day life. Job is a book about one thing: that genuine faith will be tested. He should have read the MacArthur Study Bible first :-). Secondly, Mr Thomas does not draw from Scripture and quoting its truths in shaping his answers. Notice… he has no Bible he’s holding to open up to point people to in supplying biblical answers to these questions. So ironic considering where this interview is taking place. Disappointed. Not impressed.

He actually mentioned trust/faith in the Lord at 1:10. Also, the topic of the video might not be aimed at the ultimate theme of the book of Job. Finally, a Bible doesn’t have to be open every time someone talks about God, but it would be expected to be open if someone were preaching or teaching a Bible study. Just some things to think about.

He quotes having had an obsession for reading Job for 30 years. That is dedication! Ref 5:18
