Pre-trip Inspection Checklist for Commercial Trucks
Jason, Director of Driver Orientation & Development @RoehlTransportInc, conducts a complete pre-trip inspection on one of Roehl's old commercial trucks. The importance of a pre-trip inspection cannot be ignored - failure to do proper and thorough pre-trip Class A inspections could have very serious consequences. Use this video as a truck pre-trip inspection checklist or as a cdl pre-trip study guide, if you are in truck driving school - it's a great video.
This is an older video, our trucks in operation are less than two years old. You can still use the video as a 2020 pre-trip inspection guide.

Jason explains that a proper CDL pre-trip inspection requires you to go around the entire vehicle and make sure you finish where you started, so that you've inspected every component on the commercial equipment. Jason talks about obvious signs of leaks - like coolant, oil, and power steering fluid. The CDL pre-trip looks at the truck as a whole, making sure it's stable and in safe working condition.
Jason then moves to under the hood, inspecting the motor, air filter, hoses, alternator, belts, and fluids. He checks brakes and tires as he continues the truck pre-trip inspection.
As Jason notes, a full pre-trip inspection really doesn't take you long. You've got to take the time to do your pre-trip inspection as a class a truck driver, that includes the trailer - setting the tandems, coupling and uncoupling, and other activities that make up a proper pre-trip equipment inspection.

This is the only pre inspection video that I've seen where the the person performing the inspection isn't afraid to get their hands dirty. Thanks.

I'm a former employee of Roehl, and I truly believe that the roads would be a whole lot safer if all trucking companies followed the Roehl way. It's definitely an outstanding company when it comes to safety

Kudos to Roehl. This was a fantastic, in depth and thorough review of the pre-trip inspection and in cab air brake inspection test. Great job guys. 👍🏻 I wish more people and companies would be as thorough as you are. No cutting corners here.

Good job. A proper pretrip should take an hour unfortunately some companies do not allow this as they are money money money

Excellent video perhaps a couple of things you may have missed. 1. A permissible amount of time to build air I believe is 1 minute for 100 PSI
