Hi future Physician Assistants! โ๏ธ
A major element of being a competitive PA school applicant is having solid healthcare and patient care experience. It can be difficult to determine which experience is going to provide you the most benefit before applying to PA school, as they all have their benefits and drawbacks. In this weekโs video, I am breaking down my experience working as a medical scribe in the Emergency Department. This includes the medical scribe training process, what a day in the life of an ED medical scribe looks like, and different pros/ cons of being an ED scribe. I hope this helps shed some light on what being a medical scribe entails, so that you can decide if it is the type of experience you would like to have before applying to PA school.
Enjoy and keep working hard out there! โก

Iโm sooo nervous and intimidated ๐ข I got hired with a virtual scribe company with zero medica experience except for medical classes at school for the past year . I actually surprisingly passed the training final and they sent my equipment. Iโm now doing the epic emr training and itโs sooo intimidating knowing that most of my coworkers have experience in the nursing field ๐ข Iโm trying hard not to give up , I literally just started

Hey! Which company did you get hired with? Iโm looking for a virtual scribe opportunity too.
This was very insightful and informative. The description of being a scribe was by far the most useful one I have listened to. Thank you hope everything is going well for you.
Excellent information! Thank you very much ๐๐ผ

Thank you, great information. I'm actually a certified medical coder with little on the job experience. I got offered a position as a medical scribe and I am thinking maybe I should accept the position. It can't hurt!!! Thank you again!!
Yess!! I was waiting for this video ๐ญ๐ if I wasnโt currently a CNA, Iโd definitely go for a scribing position. Theyโre so knowledgeable!!

Thats great! CNA is an awesome patient care experience as well! I'm not sure when you plan on applying, but I definitely recommend keeping your options open for scribing if the opportunity presents itself. I have a feeling you'd love it. In the meantime, keep working hard girly! :)
This was SO helpful!! Thank you so much. I'm working on getting a job as a scribe as it will give me experience for the field I'm going to school for. I had no idea what to expect, but now I do. Thank you so much for making this video!!

I start scribe on the 5th, and also going to PA school.
Just submitted my PA application, currently working as a float scribe (ophthalmology and pain management) with background in orthopaedics and general surgery. Your content has helped me so much through the application process! Please continue posting!

Unfortunately, the Scribe America training isn't live anymore as far as I know, I'm almost done with the Scribe America online course at the moment. and it's all pre-recorded videos. Yes, it is SO rigorous. Currently trying to cram my brain with information! Thanks for the video

Izze Drot Oh man, I remember that time clearly. Itโs SO worth it though. Itโs already helped immensely with didactic year of PA school.. and Iโm sure it will pay of clinical year as well. Keep pushing through ๐คโฅ๏ธ

Hello! I have just received an interview invitation and would love to know your tips.
Do you think itโs possible to continue scribing after getting into PA school if you stay nearby your job for school?
Iโve been an MA, CNA, PCT and recently got EKG certified but Iโm so nervous lol. Been in this field since 2006. Iโm scared, Iโm a bad tester to become a newbie scribe
Hey Samantha, great video! As a scribe, are you allowed to use general software like MsWord, one Note, Excel etc? Thanks
@SamanthaCarolyn
3 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
That is a great question. Because of HIPAA, we werenโt allowed to use any of the aforementioned software. The note taking process varies from hospital to hospital, but where I worked we had a clipboard and manually took note of the patient-provider interview real time (we used a lot of short hand, and medical abbreviations). Then we went into the EMR system and added to the patientโs medical record from there. Oftentimes the physician would come by to tell us more information that they wanted to add to the note, and we would type it out abbreviated directly into the online medical note, then clean up the medical note from there (take out typos, change abbreviations to full words, etc). I hope that helps clarify! โบ๏ธ
New Subscribers! Thank you for this video. I have a virtual interview for an on-site scribe position. Would you know if this position will be helpful for those who are in a healthcare IT MBA program?
Love your hair :) haha

Awe, thanks! hahaha.
Does medical scribe jobs exists in the USA for an experience indian scribes
Is this good even going to nursing school as well
@SamanthaCarolyn
2 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
That is a really great question. I would say that while scribing provides great exposure for anyone interesting in a career in medicine, I would say certified nursing assistant may be the best first step on the path to being a registered nurse. I got certified as a CNA through the American Red Cross, although I don't believe a certification is necessary to start a job as a CNA for certain places. I hope that helps. Best of luck!
scribe america is one of the worst scribing service out there
@SamanthaCarolyn

Many people hold that opinion, and that is fair... but as far as what I wanted from my time as a scribe and the knowledge I acquired on the job, as well as the opportunities that were presented to me through my scribe position, I would say Scribe America served me (personally) well. I have no qualms with the company, but I do know of many that hold your opinion and I think itโs entirely valid to feel that way. Hopefully you found a position that works better for you ๐๐ผ
