I've got the Film 101 Cult Blu Ray which is the UK version and while the picture and sound are excellent, the more violent scenes have been completely butchered. A way too over the top in depth assessment - the way the ending massacre was written where Sho unleashes his fury is brilliance in illustrating just how enraged he was. As a child when I watched this I thought how silly, these guys couldn't touch Sho: he is THE ninja of the 70s and 80s. Watching this as an adult, however, I see that he had to be shown as semi vulnerable in overcoming the levels of pain and suffering in order to avenge his wife. Had Sho simply steamrolled the evil forces, his vengeance (while complete) would have lessened the need for the retaliatory violence - pinning a man to a log with spiked nunchucks and then turning on the saw - would have seemed over the top and risked painting Sho as just another evil lunatic with unbridled rage. The way it went, however, from the death of his beloved to exacting cartoonish levels of violence upon the evil doers, made this a masterclass in story telling. One of the most underrated ninja movies from the 1970s and 1980s by the greatest on-screen ninja ever.

...and countless other victims of their violence. I wouldn't call it so much "revenge" as I would call it a well-deserved punishment. They had it coming to them when they murdered the wife God lent him. They blew their safety margin by raping her before murdering her, too. I would have looked for battery cables to put on them spikes Sho pounded into him so his death would be shocking and he'd beg for death after a few jolts if he had murdered & raped the wife God lent me, but like Yesterday goes, he's not half the man he used to be!

My favourite movie from sho👍🏻💯 I remember watching this as a kid , I must of been 8-9 years old watching it like 10x in a day😅 Great movie, great memories; but I love the ending when detective Anderson threw the star at Akira and smiles... Like "good job" on killing those p.o.s. That was a great ending. My favourite is 19:45 when Akira gives them a look like" I'll kill you" but then he restrains himself. Great discipline. But the ending I had a bit of problem with, Akira is supposed to be untouchable against regular people. Yet Limehouse stabbed him and fucked him for a minute. I could see if Akira was fighting another ninja, but Akira was fighting a Michael Myers type of villian,he should have easily killed Limehouse without being touch. An untrained man shouldn't have been able to lay a finger on a black belt ninja..

Because he'd literally kill everyone he wouldn't hang a pirate , he'd fill him full of Shuriken Stars and maul him with Bear Claws. he'd be so stealthy that stallone would be like Last chance, Drops your guns all the enemies would just drop dead ...........Ninja Magic

The grandmaster was right once a Ninja always a Ninja just as a martial artist is a martial artist. It is very interesting learning more and more about ancient Japan and other cultures

He deserved worse.
In the beginning Shos older son while he may be smaller in size than his fellow martial artist shows why in any fight it doesn't matter about size or it's about heart and determination this young lad defeated his foe after his brother was defeated. Yet another great lesson from martial arts

🙏😑Sho Kosugi and son's were exceptional in this movie, I have the song in my playlist😑👍 I also have watched many times being a student of: Tae Kwan Do, Ninjitsu has always been an art that I've read about, studying it is hard but profitable 👊🏼😑
Before there was Shredder from TMNT. There was Sho Kosugi.. 😁
I remember watching this movie long time ago and it is good to watch it all over again
Awesome 👍 one of the best Sho was and is a true Ninja grandmaster movie or not you have to respect the lethal art of Ninja they were the greatest and fiercest assassin's in the history of the world
I watched his movies nonstop. They are classics.
Tks for sharing... I really liked watching that movie when I was a kid. (Acá en México)

It's unfortunate because Sho was right about going to America because of the violence unfortunately and sadly the move will cost him his beautiful wife but when great evil strikes thankfully there is great justice and Sho used his deadly art of Ninja to get revenge and justice for his wife
@psgary6622

...and countless other victims of their violence.
I loved that movie❤❤
