paul’s comments regarding the game shifting to power throws, longer courses and losing the touch of finessing discs and throwing with control is so spot on!
@HARwinsOUTagain

Yup! All that ball golf course bomber drives gets so boring to watch.
@Chris.Davies

This is why as a serial course designer, I concentrate solely on designing holes which force players to develop a wide range of skills. Length does not make a course great or even good. Great holes are what make a course great. And a wide variety of them is essential. My best advice to players on any new course, when standing on each tee for the first time is, ask yourself: "What's the course designer's intention with this hole?" If you can answer that question correctly, you'll do better than many.
@HARwinsOUTagain

@@Chris.Davies Totally appreciated! I understand the PDGA is trying to get spectators to the events themselves, but for us home watchers, the courses they agree on are boring AF. And I imagine there is a lot more eyes from the home viewers than the live spectators. I vastly prefer wooded golf.

I really do miss the more technical courses that didn't have LONG holes. It is fine to have some holes that are long but some of the courses now just don't look as great.

What I love the most is how humble Paul is. You look at a lot of pro athletes, and their egos are through the roof.

@@arrowhead9027 Are you saying that Drew is egotistical? I've seen him at a tournament and he was a stand up guy. That said, he's forthright and confident, which might come off as arrogant if you feel threatened by confident people.
Drew, you do a great job at giving interviews. You briefly turned McBeast into an extrovert. I love the insight and stories 🤌🏼.

This is a really incredible conversation to have on film - it 100% feels like "footage" rather than "content" You can tell these two have spent a lot of time together because the entire time Paul is talking to Drew (and vice versa) rather than the camera
Drew has overtaken every other disc golfer in terms of quality content. Hell yeah Drew. Keep killing it

I greatly appreciate that! No editor. No coattails. Just a guy with a camera finding his way.
Time has blown by so quickly for this 70 year old grandpa casual disc golfer. It was about nine years ago that I was a gallery fan watching Paul, Ricky and Simon on a lead card playing a tournament on a Saturday at La Mirada park where I play several times a week. Back then I was in awe just watching all three competing and showing their best stuff. We mere mortals could only dream of driving a disc those distances. And the best part is doing a search on KZread on that tournament and seeing myself in the background just amazed at their playing skills. At age 33, Paul still has much left in the tank for at least another seven more years. And yes, Paul has to shed at least 25 pounds to get to his optimal best shape to stay in the hunt in each tournament entered.
Good answer on the “GOAT” conversation Paul. Real respectable

Only a matter of time before Paul shows up on his channel
I normally don’t watch disc golf video that has too much chatting instead of throwing, but this is an exemption. One of the best videos ever that I’ve watch and great to learn more about our favorite players’ personalities/character and disc golf thru the eyes of the G.O.A.T.
I've only ever bought and thrown Innova, but one of the best things about disc golf is the camaraderie and support for each other and from each other. I've learned more from Paul than any other player, just watching how he plays, how he carries himself, and when he speaks, we listen. Keys that really unlocked my game, and are still helping improve.
Love y’all talked about the midrange shot and the true turnover type of finesse aspect we don’t see in the game anymore.
I love the Paul is putting himself out there more this year.

Freaking Aye, Paul drove cross country with no money for meals; obviously he was going to change the way players got paid. He and his crew had to struggle to pay their way and smaller sponsor helped the best they could; but big sponsors were a bit/lot stingy and tournament payouts were not great. Love of the sport and a determination to change it is what Paul was passionate about and why he is such a great player on and off the course for the game. Climo popularized the sport but Paul will perfect it for future generations.

Paul never did drugs. Gosh it's embarrassing to think about how drugs could have been the cause in delay of this sport becoming a major sport the way it is pushing forward now.

Drew, let me start by saying I've always loved your content. The first reason was to learn from such a smooth backhand form - one of the most fluid in the sport in my opinion. However, it's videos like THESE as of late that will be an upward role for you in the online space. The interview is great, we still see great shots, and you lend a great insight into other sides of these players and yourself that we wouldn't see. Keep 'em rolling dude!
Small thing but to have no ego enough to support ab on your bag definition of great character
Thank you for the awesome interview Drew! So many don’t get to see this side of Paul, so thank you for having him!
Excellent interview Drew. Got to hear a side of Paul that I was wanting to hear. Thanks.

Thanks for watching.
I think the discussion about sponsorships is interesting, getting businesses to sponsor isn't always about sales, it can also be a pride/involvement thing. Leaning into people in power that are disc golfers is totally worth it.
It's great listening to Paul describe how we've lost sight of disc golf when it comes to course design. Today, its all about making courses nothing but long holes and OB. What's great is - his comments are just one day after Ezra and Aaron complain about holes being too short and not belonging having a place on the tour. Paul doesnt come off as a professional snob. I cannot say that about many others.
Paul I took 2 years of auto-cad in high school as well! Also we are the same age. But now own my own electrical business and I couldn't be happier than ever
Paul roasting your youtube game had me rolling. You get views, but I do agree. I see you as a disc golfer, not a youtuber and I see Bodanza as a youtuber who is trying to go pro in disc golf.

Always loved Paul and I always root for him! I'm older (41) and Paul is still a baby trust me.... Team Paul all the way! Love you too Drew!
Great video and conversation Drew. You can’t tell the story of DiscGolf without Paul McBeths name. That’s where he stands right now, but IF he gets more than KC, then he’ll proudly wear the title “GOAT “.

"We've lost the touch of the game". Crazy to hear from Paul, who has been around a long time. Cole Redalan, a new kid on tour, said almost the exact same thing during the Jomez practice round.

Obviously loved the chat with Paul. All your interviews are awesome - great pace, good conversation. You have a great thing going. Also low key loved the journeys between holes. On coverage you just see the basket and players starting to walk in one direction.
Dude great interview with Paul. I’m a person who chose software development as my career path but I always think about how I’d like to flip the script, buy a van and go on tour. Could you please make a video detailing how you made that leap of faith/how you not only survive but thrive on tour as a nomad. I think it’s amazing and I want that life lol. Couldn't agree more!
24:55 Mids/Putters have the prettiest flights. Every course needs to have a more wooded section of holes that require low skips, dead straight lines, and floaty approaches. If they're worried about the course having enough room for spectators, you can still achieve this on wide open courses by utilizing a single tree right off the pad to keep the ceiling low. And/or a combination of triple mandos and danger by the basket. I think idealy, at least 1/3 of the holes should be tailored for midsrange discs.
This is great ! Thanks for sharing
Great video While I am a newbie, introducing in the last twelve months, I agree with Paul’s assessment on the game getting longer. It would be good to see some competitions that take on turnovers and midrange.
Drew, this format is very unique. Like a podcast while throwing discs.. I can put it on in the background and enjoy it once, then later go back and watch your throws.. kinda cool.

Huge fan of the planned questions. I enjoy rounds that are casual, but I enjoy more rounds that are casual and focused on learning more about the sport
Paul's an awesome person, and a great golfer as well. It was .26c
Terrific interview with Paul, Drew. I liked it a lot. Thank you kindly. I'm with Paul on this: Ken Climo is the GOAT. So far as I know, no person in the history of sports had EVER won 9 world titles back to back. Ken has 12 overall world titles in total, and I think he has some 6 (six!) Masters World titles as well. And he did it entirely without an X-Step. It is truly a shame that we don't see more of The Champ in the disc golf scene. I'm with Paul of that count, too! Ken is an huge part of the rich history of disc golf, and our sport is poorer for his absence. BRING BACK THE CHAMP! (Chant it with me.)
