About this van:
Naomi and Laura have created a really classy, chic self-build campervan in which they plan to spend the next year travelling and climbing their way around Europe. (Find them in Instagram here; wanda_van?... )
The van has some really cool features, like the pull-out table/dining area, which easily seats four, the countersunk fridge and the in cuts in the wall around the bed, which allow a width way fixed bed. I also really liked how they have heating running to the garage, both to dry wet mountain gear but also to prevent the bed from getting damp or mouldy over time.
I hope you enjoyed this tour, don't forget to help us out by liking and subscribing :)

    Exactly. It’s somewhat similar to a sailboat fridge. I missed how the fridge is vented? One way to greatly enhance a fridge efficiency and battery drainage is to place a computer fan blowing on the coils. But the heat needs to be vented out to somewhere.

    Ms. Kimme I think if you are living in a van or camper you should get a nice humidifier for when parked and your plugged in, another think to keep it down is a bucket of water with cleaner or little bleach in it,,,, to Wipe down all surfaces..... maybe keep Corn starch on top of mattress and under it, when cleaning Vacuum it up, then replace. Before you put a shower in consider this. A permanent shower is space you can never get back, think about a make shift shower right in the middle of where she is standing in this video. You hang some bendable Aluminum I-beam track from the ceiling it stays there all the time it only hangs down 3/4 inches. You feed the shower curtain on when you use it, you stand in a storage bin/tub and you use a "Big Kahuna" portable shower which is multi purposeful. The BK can be used as a shower, to wash dishes, it becomes your portable sink. Then you disassemble it once you are done and then you have your space back without losing it to a permanent built in shower.

May seem like a trivial part, but it really hit home for me with the PROPER water port for the outside shower hookup - nothing that looks hacked together, here! The one thing that I find so interesting in British van conversions is often seeing the kitchen up against the back of the cab. It gives a lot of extra room for cabinets and counters but on the downside it restricts access to the cab and extra seating (if one installs swivel chairs in the cab). I think it would be a hassle to get in and out of the cab to access the back especially if having to stealth camp. But yeah, it offers a lot more space that way for sure. Just more creative options :)

  • @Lily_and_River

    @Lily_and_River

    Yes I feel the same way. Every time I see it I really like it! But then when I start to think and plan out my own 'dream van' I really like the idea of turning chairs at the front and even having extra car seats. I feel like this gives you space aswell because you're using the entire van including the cab. Also I would like to have proper seating. Although the benches in this video seem the most comfortable I have seen untill now, I still think it's not very comfortable for tall people to sit at for a long time and it wouldn't be a good place to work at. Another reason would be that I'm thinking about how to travel with a child or maybe even two. My husband and I really want to try van life but we want to have kids aswell so I'm trying to think ahead of time. That's also why I did love the extra bed. I'm thinking it may still fit if we only build one bench which would unfold in a smaller bed, and build the kitchen on the other side.

    My idea is to split the kitchen so that there is a narrow entryway to the cab, with a butcherblock countertop that can be inserted across the "hallway" to provide a continuous counter when working in the kitchen. Sink on one side, stove on the other, workspace in between. You lose some cabinet space above and below in this section, but you just have to be that much more clever elsewhere! Definitely LOVE the top-loading fridge using the awkward corner space, which is the bain of any kitchen; van, house or otherwise.

    I was wondering about the kitchen placing also. I’m 6’6” so I’ve come to the realization that my design needs to be very different than most videos. I would find those bench seats and table too low and too small. I like to turn the passenger seat around and use a nice big seat. So that kitchen would not work for me. So I broke down and bought a “stretch van”, a 28 foot class A Motorhome with a small 4 cylinder Isuzu Diesel engine. After I’m done raising the roof in a few weeks I can start reconfiguring the inside a bit. The advantages of my compact Class A are many over a smaller van. I just lived in my cargo van for two years so have first hand experience. For one, holding tanks are a massive headache to install in a van. This Motorhome came with them factory installed. For two, it has a inside shower and toilet. I’ve dug catholes in the woods for 45 years. With so many people living in vehicles these days it’s becoming a problem. For three, it has a fixed bed in the back. I agree with the video here. My fold up or sliding beds have not been convenient. The downside is the low ground clearance of the Motorhome. I’m used to going on tracks that I cannot with this vehicle. But I really like a lot of the ideas in this guys builds. I’m way too impatient to do as nice a job. He’s teaching me that lol.

    Great walk through, thanks for that. The van design is very individualistic. I can see it suits you which is the most important thing. The fridge idea is brilliant, as is the water tank with heater, shower, strong box, auxiliary bed and kitchen work space. The downside of the kitchen design is that you need that fixed bulkhead which then prevents you from spinning the front seats and using them as part of your living space. The east-west sleeping arrangements are great for munchkins but hopeless if you're tall. But all in all, very impressive. Wishing you good luck and great adventures.

    Thanks for the inspiration. Very innovative and good craftsmanship. I’ve struggled for decades to get a van I can enjoy long term. I’m just super tall and big person. But a couple months ago I found what I call the “stretch van” or “limo van”. Its a small 28 foot Class A Motorhome on a Isuzu NPR chassis and aluminum frame. I’m stoked!! So I’m “stretching” the roof (building a aluminum raised roof). It’s a lot of work but it’s almost ready for the roof coating. Hooray. After so long trying to get a rig I can be comfortable in. Persistence pays off. I’m inspired by this video to do a nice job in the inside. And with a bedroom in the back. yippee, desert byways here I come.

    I have been watching a lot of van content lately I deeply appreciate your van tours. We don't hear your voice your questions, you're letting people show case themselves and their work. There are many "hosts" that ask questions and get chatty which just wastes time. Thank you for letting people speak. I'll be buying your guide.

    What a beautiful van, great design elements and functionality! Bravo on the build! Note: LED 12V light fixtures... here is a trick I use successfully. I find a 110V (220V in UK) light fixture I like, which fits my van needs: light, not easily breakable, compact, and functional. I look at the bulb socket. I find an LED 12V bulb that fits that socket. Done! You can use a 110V/ 220V fixture for 12V but not vice versa. 110V AC current uses heavier wire for their light fixture so 12V DC current will flow perfectly well in that wire. The issue is just the light bulb. Change the bulb and your are done. There are 3 things to consider: The socket base, the Lumens, and the Kelvin rating: 1. Identify what type of socket base you have in the light fixture 2. Find LED 12V bulbs that have the same socket base (2-pin, wedge, 2-bayonet mount, etc) 3. If your AC lamp is rated for 60 Watts max, translate into lumens using this calculator: www.rapidtables.com/calc/light/how-watt-to-lumen.html LED lights typically are listed by Lumens (light output) more useful than Watts for comparison Higher lumens means higher amp electric usage, same as higher watts. 4. Pay attention to the Kelvin (K) rating, which is a fancy name for color of bulb. This is a range going from pinkish-yellow to bluish white. 2700K - 3000K is soft yellowish light like an incandescent bulb. 3500K - 4500K is a bright white like a halogen light. 5000K - 6000K starts turn a fluorescent bulb blue. The key is to match the bulb color to existing lights in RV.

    NATE ... CAN YOU SEND THIS TO THE COUPLE WHO CONVERTED THE VAN YOU VIDEOED. THANKS What is the water flow like out of the straight copper pipe you are using for a tap to the sink? Won't it behave in a way that splashes ? Great design and colour choices, you have done a fabulous conversion. I hope you have used slats (like your bench pull-out berth) or routed large holes in the ply board you are using as a mattress base otherwise you will get black mould from the moisture your bodies create while you sleep. You have to have air circulating around the underside of the mattress to prevent this. The heater in the garage will not prevent this moisture build up from the top down through the mattress. By the time you notice mould on the underside it will be too late ... you will need to throw the mattress out and cut out/ replace the affected wood/mould treat the rest. It is a newbie mistake ... and so easy to prevent. Lots of full-time van conversion DIYers who have fixed beds have had this problem eg. 'Trent and Allie' who have (had?) a You Tube channel. Search and see the drama they had. It happens in cold climates too ... You have done such a great job ... it would be a shame to create this major health issue as there is such an easily fixable solution.

  • @WandaVan

    @WandaVan

    Hi Liz! The water flow is controlled by a gas ball valve. This means that you can have a slow dribble or a fast swoosh of water - it's easily controlled. I'm really glad you like our design - it means a lot, thank you! If you're interested in seeing any more of our van and our adventures, you can on our Instagram, here: instagram.com/wanda_van/?hl=en Yup, the bed base is made from slats so the air circulates all around the mattress. I know this could be, as you say, a serious issue if you get the bed set up wrong! Cheers, Naomi. :)
