I hope they continue the positive trend moving forward.

I never tried Pico 8 till the RGB30 and now I'm hooked! Based on all the positive reviews, I really hope this sold well enough for Powkiddy to make a successor and other companies to release their own 1:1 screen handhelds. If they do, I would love to see 1) A larger screen which would make vertical shooters even better 2) a more ergonomic grip, and finally 3) Better quality d=pad and face buttons,

I've dabbled in it before but the RGB30 really had me taking the time to curate my collection of games. I really think it's one of the best ways to enjoy Pico-8! 🤗💗 I do agree that we need more 1:1 handhelds! 🔥

Had my RGB30 about 2 weeks. Worked well for the first 2 days and then have been back and forwards with support ever since due to battery/hardware issues - may as well be a paper weight at this point. 'Powkiddy'' and 'quality hardware' most certainly do not go together. First Powkiddy device I have purchased and will be the last. Hoping Anbernic or someone runs with the idea though and makes a better quality version of what they have started.

This id one of the nicest reviews of the rgb30 out there! Loved your approach when showing which platform works well and not so well. The square display really accommodates a nice variety of great consoles

@@retrotechdadI had it for a few days and love it. One issue I’m finding is that I can’t get those horizontal bezels to show, like the game gear, dreamcast or psx… any idea how to fix that? I know they are there because they show on the screensaver as decoration set. But can’t find them on overlays either…😢

I also just picked up one of these. For Gameboy, it is fantastic. Really the best experience so far!

I used the joysticks quite a bit in this video. It's nice to have for platforms like Dreamcast, N64, and even PS1 games plus the ones that required them like Ape Escape. For it's ideal use case, which are the platforms that use similar aspect ratios to that 1:1, then no it's not really needed.

It's a really nice device. and a perfect modern-day Game Boy. GBA is a perfect 3x scale and despite the space left at the top and bottom, the visible screen size is the same as you would find on your standard 4:3 3.5-inch retro handheld. Just a question. How did you get that Grid at 0:05 to look so clean, despite the integer scale being off? What Filter is this?

Could you tell me what song you used in the final wrap up section of the video ? I love the vibe. Ordered mine a week ago and I just can't wait to try it out for the whole Gameboy lineup, Arcade / Shmups and Pico-8. Stellar review and especially that long battery test deserves some praise. This device is the unsung hero for me this year. It's unique nature and cool design with an impeccable screen cannot go unnoticed. I genuinely hope more people support this device and don't just write it off because "Powkiddy" It deserves your consideration everyone!

I’m enjoying GBA at the perfect 3x interger scaling on this device.

I have a Miyoo Mini (v3) and while it can play a lot of these games up to PS1 and is a fun little device, it's not great for extended play. I've adjusted to ways of holding it comfortably, but its best playing small slow experiences like puzzle games or RPGs with one hand for me. It does Pico 8 too, although it's through a semi inaccurate emulator in Onion OS so some games don't run while there are graphic errors in some others. It even does a bit of DS now, but with this in mind I still ordered the RGB30. The 1:1 720p screen is HUGE in comparison. It may not be great for PSP, but I'm thinking the high res screen might actually make up for the size compared to the Retroid 2S or other rk3566 handhelds under 100 bucks. I disagree with the GBA opinion, it looks great to me.

Those impressive emulation handhelds get better and better for a good price - I consider to buy one, but I don't know what's the best choice, there are so many of them...

We are definitely spoiled by choice nowadays. The RGB30 is definitely a solid one especially for Gameboy/GBC. I think it comes down to what you are really looking to play.

It works fine, I use the 8bitDo Pro controller with bluetooth. You can also use the actual machine as a controller while plugged in to a tv. This machine is so versatile its Unreal. I love playing PS1 Tekken 2, WipeOut and Soul Blade.

I might buy this Handheld in Red, Green, Purple, and White too. 😁

REALLY interested in your take on RGB30 vs RP2S for GB / GBC / GBA with a little NES/SNES. Does it come down to RP2S build quality & CPU vs RGB30 screen? What wins?

I *really* like the RGB30 for GB/GBC and NES/SNES especially the ones with 8:7 aspect ratio support. I think the RP2S will be a better fit for GBA because of the aspect ratio. I found the RGB30 to be pretty well made and the screen is definitely a highlight. RP2S is no doubt more powerful and handle some light GC/PS2 but based on your use case, the RGB30 might be a better fit. I enjoy both for different reasons.

No mario bros super mario on my device, any ideas? Also battery drained rapidly in like 2 hrs no real long game play just going thru settings and stuff. I heard disconnect battery and reconnect? And itll fix battery draining to fast. Anybody know?

You need to download ROMs for those games, they are not included in the stock game card.

it has completely replaced my miyoo for everyday carry; it's definitely my handheld of the year. gb, gbc, nes, snes, pico8 all look amazing when scaled to maximize their screen space. 4:3 and 16:9 platforms give me the same amount of display (or slightly more, as with psp) that i would've had on the 3.5in screen of the mini+, so there's no loss. just extra performance and capability. portmaster is great, especially with the gui interface. i think the people that don't get the hype behind the rgb30 are just no seeing what this device excels at and are focused on things it was just never intended to do.

Great question! Outside of the Pico-8 games, I believe nearly all of them were already preloaded with that 128GB micro SD card. It was a very solid selection.

I’m facing heating and battery drain issues..what is the fix?

Check that you have the latest version of JELOS installed. I forget which channel said it, but they suggested that disconnecting the battery for a few seconds and then reconnecting it fixed inconsistent battery drain for them.

This is definitely forPico-8 fans, but it's not really worth it otherwise. Honestly wish they'd sort out Pico-8 for the Analogue Pocket or even Android.

Finally a review that uses the included game card. What's kept me from getting a handheld emulator has been that I have to preprare the games myself. Would it be easy to add a few roms myself to their game card like pokemon romhacks?

This is what I did. I used the included card and added some pokemon rom hacks and handful of other games that weren't included. Was easy. The included memory card is not great quality so I plan to just copy and paste the contents onto a new card.

but pico is simulated and not all games work right?

Pico-8 is not simulated. You can actually load up splore right on the device as it's using the Linux build of Pico-8.

I'll play gba anyways, top and bottom borders dont bother me as much as lateral ones do.

It's an Emulation device. Emulation doesn't require a lot of RAM.

I think people are used to needing more ram for Android based devices than Linux.

No one really testing all the cave shmups since this screen screams Tate mode. Torn between this and the rg cube but that's twice the price but I know runs cave shmups without issues

Would love a screen like this to play Shoot'em Up games but those Switch sticks are a NO NO. Truly garbage.

Dont buy this rgb30 because it is poorly made on the inside.Has sd card and battery defects.Not a good handheld for someone not tech savvy. Dont buy for a kid because they will be crying in a month or less.

You do too many comparisons, its the best one so just concentrate reviewing it with games like its meant to be
