You should scale the stations larger. I've been looking at it again for a long time & saw a lot of good visual improvements, like finally new engine jet animations. However, I found stations to be tiny in relation to ships. For example, when I'm at a larger Minmatar station & approaching it or a distant object that's at the right angle. If the entry lanes are just big enough for a Drake to fit in ^^ It's also funny that the small lights that are supposed to represent busy traffic are only as big as a heavy rocket. I think you could adjust that, it would also help to get a feeling for your own ship size visually. If you have problems with the centering of stations, as far as ranges are concerned. How the approach to 500m with a large station is not the same everywhere depending on the design. You could use the approach lanes as a fixpoint, which all warp to. Then you fly directly in front of the station entrance instead of just at the station itself. Then it would also visually match the hangars in terms of scale. Depending on its size, a station could also have e.g. 4-6 fixed points around it, which are counted as docking/warp points. So that no matter where you come from, you will always warp to the nearest docking fixed point that the station has. The player would not even see these fixed points but would select the station as usual. This would still give you the convenience of being able to dock wherever you are around the station and enter the loading screen. I think some stations even have something similar. This would also visually center real ship traffic. Possibly also entrance & exit points, so that it looks like a highway.

Does make me wonder because eve seems to have some rather stark limits on some of the ways its encounters function. Begs the question weather thats part of the game being old or the engine having limits.

It means that eve is an old game and that while CCP have gradually updated graphics to modern standards much of the foundation like multithreading have not been able to be changed without having to rewrite eve online from the ground up. theres a lot of old code in eve that im sure they would love to update but simply cant without having to rewrite large swaths of the game. Hence the question. Is the engine bound to eves code or a seperate thing? if its the first that does not bode well for this engines capabilities.@@SkyNikita322

Well, I am currently creating a singleplayer space game with EVE-like gameplay based on Unity. If Carbon would become a new game engine on the market, I would definetively try it out.

One would think being acquired for half a billion would bring the new owners to invest in new modern technology, and yet...
"Creating worlds without limits"? Yeah... Go offer a collaboration to finish Star Citizen. They REALLY need the multiplayer performance that's advertised here and would likely pay well. Might be a worthy successor to EVE.

So this is the engine which gives us 1-2 FPS in large battles on modern high end hardware? Still using stackless python with single threaded bottlenecks, or have you guys stepped into the 2000's ?

Have you even played eve? With over 2000 players on screen your fps wont drop below 10, which in any other game 2000 players would be an instant server crash or game client freeze.

@@umadbroimatroll7918Any? Planetside 2, a game whose age has exceeded 10 years, easily attracts 1.5k players, without loss of FPS or TPS, as in Eve.
All you need to do… is pay the highest mmo sub price on the market.

I haven't heard about Carbon in over 10 years. I cannot imagine it being at all relevant in today's age of gaming. I'd love to be proven wrong, mind you, but I don't suspect I will be.

Carbon engine (AFAIK has always been the EVE engine) has seen tremendous upgrades through the years. Even though I don't play the game anymore I think it's save to say for space games on an MMO scale it's the best out there. But their character creator is very impressive as well. So there might be potential for character based games. Just don't know how well it scales though. The timing of this video is pretty typical. I bet it has something to do with Unity's fck up.

@@SyntheticFutureThe character creator isnt impressive in 2023, it was at release sure but not now. There are quite a bunch of RPGs and even mmos like black desert that have better character creators.

Their current game engine is still using Python 2, an ancient tech that Python no longer supports after 2020. And they want to switch to Python 3.

All you need to do is pay highest price and then loose a 6 month war because players figured out how to break the server with in game mechanics

Lol what? You mean 2000 players. And even then will have over 10fps. Try to have over 200 people In the same spot in ANY other mmo. It wont happen, or lag like eve never will.

Hey maybe ccp will finally bring back station walking and planet side stuff ....no other game seems to do it .... oh wait nvm there is at least 5 of them that do that and have no loading screens for it and can do much more shame ccp can't sort out it's own story for eve and make it improved yet are happy to ruin the game more and more hell they even let Russians play the game

cause people dont want them to waste time on it, its inconsequential and a novelty that would take time to do. YOU might want it and enjoy it but eventually you will get bored of it because its a silly gimick and then everyone will be crying for them to leave it be and focus on game balance again.

@@velaikkaYeah, and they were right. A flashy, resource-intensive feature that required a whole ass separate engine but are only weakly connected to the main game is a bad idea. Those other space games use the same engine for the space part and the walking part and/or have gameplay more conducive to connecting them. WiS would only be used by a handful of dedicated roleplayers after a couple months. It's like demanding a Walking in Bunkers for World of Tanks - absolutely pointless. It was doomed to fail and mainly conceived as a tech demo for the cancelled World od Darkness MMO in the first place anyway.
