It's funny how we go through years of having friends that we meet on our journey through life but I am finding that sometimes you can meet a friend even here that you look forward to hearing from which means even more. I thank you so much Sandra for that. You have truly touched my life in a positive way and I feel good about that. Thank you so very much. Shelley

Hi Sandra - I'm about 7 months into widowhood and self care has been very important. The New England winter/cold/snow has been long and isolating. I said I would take a year without making any major decisions, take time to grieve, rest, read, follow my bliss, handle the paperwork and generally get a feel for a differently defined life without my 50 year life partner/prince. I'm back to swimming at the Y a day or two per week. Continuing to work part time in a son's business. I follow my bliss making notes, lists and research for what I want to learn or experience next. Getting ready to clean my studio and start painting art and furniture again. And there's always the garden beckoning me for spring. At 73, my most important avenue of self care is maintaining energy to live and move. It's not always easy and requires rethinking some things. That means healthy eating as in keto/low carb, adequate sleep, reaching out to others, staying off computers late at night (their use really does disrupt sleep patterns). I'm sad for the loss of my beautiful man but taking good care of me while I traverse this new exciting path. Listening to you is like sitting in the company of a good friend. Thank you.

Love your wisdom on self care. I much needed it! My routines save me - medication in the morning first thing, make my bed, dress fully with makeup and good shoes , put load of laundry in, fix hubby breakfast and make out my schedule for the day. At night put dishes away , clean sink, do 15 min pickup of house, set out clothes for next day, hygiene before bed, shower and read a psalm before bedtime.

I definitely am a strong independent woman who never asked for help. Now that I am retired I still use my planner but no longer worry if everything does not get done that day. I just move it to the next day and carry on. I love my quiet time on the balcony with a cup of coffee and to look out at the sky and trees. No birds yet but soon I hope. I also do a spa day(hour or two) weekly. I scrub my hands, feet, lotion everything. I use a face mask and a hair mask. This little process makes me feel good. Best to you Sandra. 😎❤️💄Kathy

Hi Sandra, self-care became much more important to me as I got older. When you’re going through a stressful time or dealing with the situation, example, taking care of my elderly mother with dementia, it becomes critically important. That may be the times when you do self care the least, but those are the times when you need it the most. Walking every morning, very early in the morning when it is still dark out and the world is so quiet is my best self-care routine. It is my time to self reflect, get grounded to face the day, it is my prayer closet and my peace. Love and prayers, Sheila

Thank you Sandra from Annie. That is a very important topic self care. Many of us ignore ourselves way too much especially in younger days thou as we get older it tugs at us to make self care a step we take each day for our own good and that of others too, who may need us. I take to the garden being with nature is self care for me too. Also being with my animals cats and dog is important to me. I look forward to showering and having clean clothes to wear etc. Being well groomed is important cleanliness is godliness.

Sandra I have written to you before and you wrote back. I am younger than you but we have a musical son in common. On Spotify their names come up next to each other often at least on my Spotify. So when I go walking I listen to both of them. Last night I walked 7000 steps more or less equally divided between them. Your son has got a soothing voice much like you. And when you talk you bring him in often because he means so much to you. I also have to put the phone away but for me that is also relaxing. We see our passionate grown up sons. I am not in Cape Town but on band tour in Switzerland at the moment. And next week Glasgow, Dublin and London. And without my rest time which is sacred and actually the most important thing I would never be able to do it anymore at 62

I wonder why we don’t realize the importance of self care until we are older. We spend our lives as women taking care of everyone else and some of us even have businesses or full time jobs. I learned years ago to meditate in the shower , stop and watch some dumb tv or take a walk or even go and get a massage or take a bath and care for me. We are the best for others when we treat ourselves the best!! Loved this Sandra. To everyone here Happy Women’s Day. You are all miraculous and fabulous, especially as you age with grace and beauty. I start my day quiet with the sliding glass door open, the birds, squirrels, and any other wildlife that wants to join me and just the quiet and a cup of coffee and NO electronics. This is a routine I was never able to do in my younger years because of children and jobs. Also, in the afternoon after lunch and work, I take a break, put my feet up, and relax. I love the Italian's routine when they close their shops for 2 hour lunch breaks. We all deserve those moments. It makes us all better people.😁

Words of wisdom, Sandra, and I agree wholeheartedly. Just remembering a letter I wrote my mother 50 years ago. She lived a self-sacrificing life through most of her married life, her struggles to help her handicapped son achieve what he needed, a job outside the home, etc. I was the youngest and once we all left home she was very sad and still angry at my father for his persistent alcoholism. I wrote her a long letter telling her to start thinking about herself, remember who you are and follow the dreams you were never able to pursue. She and her best friend started traveling all over, to Switzerland, Hawaii, Israel, many wonderful places, and I’m so happy that she did, finally, make some new memories for herself.

Sandra! Once again another much needed topic. Thank you😘 I have no electronics...not even a clock...in my bedroom. My cell is out in the kitchen as far away as it can get! I even got rid of my computer. All of this to eliminate as much as I could realistically . I'm working on the TV next 🙄...lol🤷‍♀️ I get up before there's any life stirring and put water on for tea, open up the curtains and weather permitting, the windows. Go back to bed with my herbal tea and let my thoughts wander. No reading of others thoughts, no mantras...my meditation is MY thoughts, whatever they may be. It's amazing what revelations come up! My second cup of non- herbal tea gets me up and ready to start the physical activity of my day. I'm doing quite well at not stressing over a completed list of "to do's". I know it will get done. And, more easily if I let it all organically materialize. Your statement at the end of applying self care BEFORE you need it was so powerful and oh so true. Ok Sandra, you wanted a comment and here's my "wordy" one!! BTW...great colors on you...love the necklace!💙💛💚 Thanks again for the lovely and interesting vids...video... appreciated 😘🙋‍♀️

It's still winter and seems like a very long one, you speak sunshine into my days! Thank you.. I find myself on hampster wheel alot, pushing through. Today I've decided to slow my pace and only make a short to do list.. maybe just 3 things instead of 20 and reward myself afterwards, hot bath, read my book, walk, hot cocoa and music..BE GOOD TO ME.. Let's all be good to ourselves today, this moment is all we have.🥰❤ God bless you always!

Hardest thing in the world is to ask for help - we want to be the "I can do it all" woman. But I'm actually tired of hearing people say to me, "You are such a strong person". Well guess what I'm not - but I've given that impression for my almost 70 years. But '70' is proving to me that I just can't get it all done - take it all in and deal with it. I'm going to practice saying, "hey can you give me a hand for a second?" Thank you for your ever faithful inspiration. :)

I have had to learn to do that. My children, everyone, always expected me to be the strong one and still be 35 years old. I finally realized I had to stop the image of ‘mom can do it’ - being a superwoman and ask for help when I need it.

I have always been independent person too. I’m still fairly positive, and I tell my children to never give up. I need to walk more for exercise. I am so thankful for my home. I keep waking up each night thinking about the people leaving the Ukraine with nothing. Also, all the destruction and senseless deaths. I almost can’t enjoy my life for thinking about their life. I just want to help them and the little children. 💜Jeanette Turner

Sweet Sandra, how you Help us all. This hit me in particular for self care. I know you had another video on loss which touched me as well. We all go through it at some point .,you're right. I lost my husband over 7 years ago to brainstem Glioblastma, Which is rare in adults. He was 56 when I lost him in 10 months. The thing was, they did all these experiments on him because it is rare we were never told he was going to die just that don't worry won't be able to control this meanwhile they use them as a Guinea pig in a sense. I was grateful that I had him for for 34 years, I am now 63. But now I'm just starting to grieve after all this time, having flashfacts of all those experiments. After he left, my stepbrother died, my mother in law died after him, her son, both my aunts died, my brother was in and out of mental hospitals for for a year and now the loss of my husband is hitting me hard. Some of my family members feel I should be way ahead of the game. Past 7 years I haven't worked out, I have a bad lower back. i have self abused with food, vegging on TV, staying solo, etc. And like you.. I hate to go to the store!! lol, But I wait to the last moment until the fridge is there to do it. 2 of my friends keep trying to set me up with people which I have 0 interest. And with the world as it is I hav great sorrow for everyone. I've tried to make this short but I don't think I was successful, im sorry this is so long, main point is I found you💞 and I'm I'm going through all your videos and I finally feel some uplift, like wings opening around my heart. And I may begin to come out of my deep depression. You're like an angel I just wanted to give you a little background and thank you for all the time you spend for us. Warm hugs and Endless Blessings. And please forgive my long chatter🌷🌼🌹🦋🦭🌅🏞 But I'm going to begin To start the day with the positive affirmation😊🤗🙏🙏 You're an inspiration.

Thanks for reminding me it's ok to stop and breathe. I wake up before the sun rises and read scripture then I go for a long walk at the beach. Sometimes I feel guilty for doing this. I remind myself that it's ok. I always feel better afterwards.

Hello Sandra, my tip for self care/love is to wear a really bright lipstick, one that I’m not quite confident to wear in public, when I’m gardening! Hi Sandra, When my beloved husband suddenly fell ill and unexpectedly died two years ago the advice I received from other widows was to give myself the time I needed to grieve and to take care of my health. They knew what I did not.The two years since have been challenging emotionally, physically and socially. It has been as if I'm on a daily emotional roller coaster. I'm calmer now. I write to my husband in the journal I made for those private outpourings of my grief. I also write in another personal journal as I love to write. Both journals comfort me as does the laughter I share with my children and grandchildren. I have continued painting and doing pottery in workshops. I purposely do these activities in groups for the lively conversation of all ,for their camaraderie, and yet also making me feel independent in my choices. I have taken trips with my children, gone sailing with them, amazing them by my enthusiasm. I bake a lot for the children and my ever present sweet tooth. I read, watch Netflix and just love your videos that have taken precedence over the other two. I am downsizing, learning something new everyday, listening less or not at all to the news, reaching out to others, paying attention to my skin care. I am weeding out my clothes closet, aware of my vintage items and what is important to me. I could go on... Thank you Sandra for being a role model and for making me feel visible , and aware of how to live well as a single and older woman. Thank you.Be well.

As crazy as things can get I do know it will be exactly as I think it will be , I often have to retreat breathe and remind myself. Last week my world changed, I fell apart .. meditation prayer self-care work sharing well that’s a tough one for me .. I’m grateful that I understand the power of the universe. Oh Sandra that iPhone, but I do use the You Youruniverse meditation tape to fall asleep.. but it’s always tempting me to go and watch and comment it’s so bad for us :) Hugs XoX

Two months ago i decided to make a very big change in my life. It had a lot to do with wanting to be closer with family. Leaving for the mainland was not a possibility for the first year of the pandemic. I also lost my Love two years ago at the end of May. The pandemic gave me a chance to reflect on the complete nightmare that all was. I took some steps to make sure to address what was a very shocking and tragic situation. I am very grateful that I found the perfect people to help me. To keep this somewhat brief, I realized that even basic things, like needing time to myself just vanished. Recently, I started feeling stressed from moving. There has been so much more support and help in my life than I am used to. It has been really a tremendous blessing to be with my people. Self care for me sometimes means spending time alone. Creativity is something that brings me a lot of pleasure. So, just going with what I feel like doing can be wonderful. Structure is great yet it sometimes hinders creative impulses. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful advice! Blessings to you and your family!

Bless you Sandra! So often we would rather be the one doing the helping than ask for help (well I know I do). Recently I asked a friend for advice about something I was struggling with and he said 'would it help if I take that on for you until the end of the year?' And I said 'Yes please'. It hadn't occurred to me to actually ask anyone to do it as it was an obligation (it was to do with a voluntary organisation we both belong to). It was such a relief. A lesson for me!

Sandra you continue to be an inspiration to me and you light up my life! Thank you for your wise, kind words I especially love your soft vocal tones and soothing speech! Your calm spirit 😊 What I do - and have done is early in the morning - even before the sun comes up - get my Kona coffee- get in my fuzzy soft robe, soft slippers - curl up in my soft recliner in my meditation space in the family room and open Gods’ word to see what He has for me “ just for ME that day, that hour”... and just bask in His presence - oh my !! it takes me to heaven , and oh so peaceful knowing He has me in the palm Of His hands and there is nothing that I will encounter that day that He does not know about and will guide me through! Then as the sun comes up I look out on my beautiful patio with my fountain and songbirds and I’m ready for the day with a sense of peace and comfort and encouragement to anyone I come in contact with ! Looking for the small and big blessings that I encounter during the day! Being thankful for all my blessings !! It’s a calming mindset! I get creative and paint my watercolors and enjoy the beauty of the day!!! Carolyn💕🌺🎨

I lift up everyone in prayer and then I go about my day feeling I've meditated on the worlds needs and my own, in a positive way and not a worrying way, invoking my higher power that we need so much in this unsettled world. Your videos are amazing. When we are young we don’t worry about self care. Whoever ask any help (relatives or friends) we don’t say no. It is too much for a person. Even then we try to help above our limitation. When we became old only we worry about self care. In our life w e need courage to say no. Self care is most important in our life. You are so smart and great lady. Really I appreciate your thinking and life style.

It’s true! Self care is so individual.. For me I love to cuddle my little poodle in the mornings & then go check up on all my plants inside & out (especially in the summer of course!) I feel like taking care of plants is a form of meditation & if you don’t pay attention they let you know with disease & bugs & if you tend to them they blossom & fill your world with joy! Thank you Sandra!

Very good advice Sandra! I might add, never asking for help can be selfish and this is why. You know how good you feel when you help someone? Well, you're denying that good feeling for someone else when you don't ask them for some help. Now don't feel guilty! Just start now asking for help occasionally and see someone else's face light up!

Once, a male coworker offered to buy me a cup of coffee for being a listener to his problems. At first, I refused, because I didn’t want him to think he had to “pay” for my concern. But, another coworker told me “do not prevent someone from blessing you and being blessed in giving to you.” 😊

My husband has cautioned me about this many times. It's so much easier to give, so I can forget that being a good receiver is equally important.

Great advice, as I'm watching your video at 11:30pm 😳 and yes, I look at my phone first thing in the morning. You're so right Sandra, I will try harder to not be so attached to my electronics. I do scripture in the morning, it does help🙏 thank you for your uplifting videos, I enjoy them so much, and share them with my friends 😊
