If you are new to the game: So this guide is only for players who know how to play! First: Dont grind yourself up to highrank augmentation, this is tedious and completely useless in the end game, since there will be a different kind of augmentation in Master Rank. Skip that! Second: You will find yourself having a very hard time, hunting anything beyond velkhana, with just the kulu gear or anything with less defence. As soon as you hit Nargacouga, get the Narga Longsword, its much much better than the defender weapon and very simple to farm. Also get 3 Pieces of Odogaron set, maybe with Kulu Arms and Lagiana Chest, so you have Devine Blessing and crit boost. Craft yourself the Health charm to get +50 HP. Its super simple to farm. Unlike the Handicraft lvl 4 charm, which you wont be able to... Third: Use Vitality Mantle and Temporal Mantle. Both offer you a great defence and will save your a** alot of times (may change Vilality Mantle with Rocksteady Mantle, if you are HR50+ alrdy) --->So again. This guide, if you played MH alot. If you didnt, you will be very frustrated if you play alone, cause you are setting yourself up for a big challenge. Velkhana is a wall, and its supossed to be one.

When my brother and I started, we were pretty much a powerhouse team. He had his usual LS set up while I rocked the Lance. With the Lance's new Clutch Counter he was able to hit triple digits on tenderized parts and we would be monsters in under 8 to even 6 minutes sometimes. It felt like a perfect balance between Attack and Defense having the two weapons together, it also made tail cutting super quick.

Man, you just saved me HOURS. I just started Iceborn, wasted a lot of time trying shit, and the set you recommend took only two fights to drop and is so much better xD This is an actual guide that a beginner can use. Progressive and practical (the fact that you start with Defender's weapon is a prove of that). Thanks for the info. I will go for a Crimson Viper Fang tho, cuz I'm against touching anything from Defender set, but everything else is just perfect 🤘🏾

Teostra becomes available when we hit MR 19, immediately after we slay velkana. I had him show up in my expeditions, and got his three piece of armour for masters touch even before I fought black veil and nami. Teo is manageable at this point, just takes longer to slay. We can also get Kirin chest piece at this point.

@@Woltercore Well if you know both monsters equally Shara is objectively a simpler fight and less likelyhood to take much damage from his abilities as they're very telegraphed. Teostra is far more mobile and quick than Shara, I'm sure if a new player faced one or the other they would feel both are equally hard as being 1 shot or knocked down into death isn't seen as great

A good build after Kulu is Fulgur Anna Helm B, Narga Chest B, Narga Vambraces B, Odogaron Coil B and Narga Legs B. With a few gems you would have picked up before MR released you can easily reach Crit Eye 7, Crit Boost 3, WEX 3, you get True Razor Sharp (75% chance not to lose sharpness on weak points), get Evade Window 3 and can put whatever Charm you want. I used Health Boost 3. It has better defence than the Kulu set so I'd recommend that as a half way between Kulu and Teostra/Shara

Teostra was one of my first elder encounters before I finished the iceborne story. Lunastra on the other hand took me ages, I don't think I saw her until after 60. But that's just my experience

Nice. This is what I've been looking for.

Augumentation: Augumentation in iceborn costs only research points. When you de augument an item you get back all the material used, you only lost the research points and early augumentation costs maybe 1500 research points, with early its around MR40. So its worth it. Health Augument though unlocks way late but you can augument the blue MR gear already around MR40 with affinity etc. So personally its better to use strong Rank 10 items. The Pukei Pukei weapons are a hidden gem. Rank 10, large amount of purple affinity and Poison approx 75% of base weapon damage. The Switch axe pukei pukei have 840 base dmg, rank 10, but poison damage is 660. Slot in venom 4 and you have 870!!! poison damage on your weapon. Now run 2 parts Rathian gear which you unlock at MR2, for double duration poison. The Pukei Pukei weapon you can craft already at MR1. However, you wont have health auguments but the damage is significant over defender. The pukeis poison will hit for upwards of 50 per tick. 80 per tick on shara isvalda. The nice thing with the pukei weapons extreme poison damage is you can run full tank build, zero crit, zero attack. Just 4 venom then full health, medicine, Divine blessing etc, and slap in some crit if you can but the damage carries you all the way through. I completed the entire campaign and early guiding lands using Pukei Pukei rank 10 switch axe and had not a single point in any offensive skill. And I usually 1 shot all content with no deaths. That poison adds up to roughly 30% of your total damage dealt. Again, hidden jewel that weapon.

Im running a brachy ls with fulgur beta helm, ebony beta chest, acidic beta arms, odo beta belt, ebony beta legs and artisan charm. With weak spot, affinity 4,the one that they give you in the story, crit damage, and health jewels. Then you can add 1 more to avoid stuns and if you have an artisan jewel you can get artisan 5. The skills are: affinity boost 7 health 3 anti stun 3 weak spot 3 crit damage 3 artisan 4/5 tool expert 2 dragon resist 1 and you still have some space for more stuff that you want to add. It's an easy build to do as the jewels are not too difficult to get specially if you grinded the base game and it doesn't require any hard to get monster part

With all builds now with Fatalis and Alatreon, this video does help a lot for someone just started the jorney

The endgame stuff is fine and all but saying to use defender LS with early MR gear and farm Shara is just bad advice, least swap out to Crimson Viperfang for the para and better damage, then maybe making a pre shara farm set with Wyvern Blossom+. It also doesn't make sense to make a build using Handicraft 4 for Shara since it only unlocks after Tempered Luna. Not showing Deco for any set besides MR70+ is also a bad move, sure people can assume based on the skills but it isn't exactly hard to just show the screen before swapping sets.

You dont need guiding lands to fight teostra, you ca find him in wildspire waste and elders recess during the shara research missions

I would be interested in seeing one of these guides for a hammer build.

Let's assume you, you bought the game as a bundle and don't have maingame end-content farmed, what you'll want to do is build the crimson viperfang paralysis ls. (Tobi, viper tobi tree) And youll want bone armour and vespoid gloves, (full beotodus if you want play defensively on ice based critters) at MR3 you unlock acidic glavenus. And the r10 sword, 800+ raw, 240 paralyze and lots of white sharpness. The paralysis procs really let you unleash some combos on aggressive creatures. Once you defeat velkhana, you can consider farming 4 of her armor peices for her frostcraft ability(extra damage and free divine blessing3 and quick sheath, critical draw). That should take you all the way into the guiding lands, unless u want to farm the bazelgeuse or teostra blastswords it isn't necessary as the crimson viperfang will get you there.

Teostra is available after slaying Velkhana. Check your Wildspire and Recess expeditions after every hunt after it, then encounter it. No need to defeat, just "discover" it. Aggro it and maybe get a few hits in if you want to be really sure. Luna is guiding lands Wildspire 5 (MR50) gated.

Mid-story to post story i recommend upgrading the build with (you need MR 4 star Quests for Anja): Fulgur Anjanath beta helm Nargacuga chest beta Nargacuga arms beta Odogaron waist beta Nargacuga legs beta This will give you 100% crit with basic decos and true razor sharp (75% chance to not use sharpness on hit) With that you can grind the guiding lands until you get Jian Garuga for the legs to finish the high end pre-MR 70 meta set for blademaster weapons!^^

Kulu set is too soft once you hit MR3-4. I suggest building Fulgur Anja Helm B, Narga Chest B, Narga Arms B, Odo Waist B, & Narga Boots B. With enough decorations, you can have the same skills as the Kulu set but you'll have True Razor Sharp which will reduces the chances of your weapon going down a sharpness between fights.

You can get all elder dragons (except lunastra I believe) from just seeing them before you beat the game. That being said you’ll probably get at least one Teostra investigation from killing elder dragons as part of the story so there’s really no need to go out of your way to find him

for my experience when play iceborne (PC) when I just unlock rathalos MR set, I craft helm B, armor B, shoes A (bcos I targeting attack lvl 4 (5% crit) then we already have 2 weakness exploit from armor so i just keep changing hand and waist and i keep spamming several optional until i get expert jewel lvl 4 x 2 (one already give at first) so we can put 3 x expert lvl 4 jewel and final we have rathalos helm B, rathalos armor B, Rathalos shoes A with effect : lvl 6 affinity lvl 4 attack boost lvl 2 weakness exploit lvl 2 slinger cap and for hand and waist u can try and explore what build u need, thats my personal build i use at Iceborne until 1 fight shara isvalda. ty~

Here's what i used when i did my ps4 run as a fresh player. Fulgur anjanath helm(1wex) Rathalos mail a(2wex) Kulu ya ku gloves(1critboost) Odogaron waist(2crit eye) Kulu boots(2crit eye) Attack charm 3 With this youre gonna have at least 3wex 1critboost 4crit eye(6 with the expert+ jewel) 3attackboost(4 with the free attack jewel deco) You could slot in health boost 3 and/or divine blessing for the free deco slots. This could carry you till endgame and just enough to unlock the endgame map and spam the heck out of it to farm the "tickets" to unlock the decent decorations. It's much more easier and less effort to do than lavasioth/jagras.

@@rizalahmadzikri5769 i used kulve taroth r8 fire for the few early stages of iceborne. Then switched to kulu ya ku MR LS. Then used the final IB boss LS. Your other options are: Hellish Slasher (Divine Slasher Upgrade) Zorah Magdaros MR LS

Wouldn't evade window be beneficial for the RT+O dodge counter (can't remember the name)? Of course you could master the timing but wouldn't it make that attack more devastating if you could easily pull it off without worry of taking damage?

A bow build in this style would be awesome

I think agitator is not necessary since you already reach 100% affinity with wex 3 + crit eye 7 + 10% from the weapon or maybe you can swap out the crit eye deco lv4 for something else

I'm not sure this is a good guide for a newer ish player to follow, to start with, two augments in the defender weapon means people would need to farm tempered stuff in world before going in to iceborne. going with the hyper aggro kulu set up or drachen means you probably know the moves of the stuff you are fighting if doing all of the story with it unless you want to cart a lot. and to expect people with kulu to farm up the shara longsword before anything else is also a bit odd. I think there is merit in the advice, but I don't think the people needing a guide are the people who would benefit from this.

Based on my experience(played a ps4 playthrough fresh so no decos and pre ib stuff like atkt/drachen) i used the tzitzi ya ku hbg for a bit of a decent spread hbg. Then used it till i got the much endgame zinogre hbg. This is assuming you use spread hbg.

@@Popmycherryyo good bc clusters are really not quite good in iceborne in my experience monsters now move a lot so there's not a lot of chance for you to land your clusters. As for the defender weapons. Health augment is just a personal choice since around mid game you'll gonna lack the damage to finish the hunt. Also, health augments are a bad choice for spread since it only heals the damage of ONE pellet. Ypu're better off with affinity.

Question! Is it specific armor parts that give higher leveled Jewel slots or can i just put 4+ Jewels on low rank armor?

I'm pretty sure Teostra and other elder dragons become available before you finish the Iceborn Story. You will get a message saying Elder Dragons will now spawn on expeditions. I ended up having Teostra armor for Shara.

Good video. My critique only comes for weapon choices. As a solo player, shara has just been a chore to fight and might not be a good option. I’d recommend just building the rathian LS as you go through since it will steadily be effective throughout iceborne. Some of the iron weapons are really easy to make and don’t need handicraft. Is the gold rath LS still good post siege?

One of the very few guides out there that has actual progression with attainable gear, only thing that would hinder is your luck on decos. Most guides focus on endgame and not reasonable for newbies trying to clear, especially now that the game is nowhere near active on console (PC though there are more players). Your video explained that you need to have Grinding Lands (Wildspire) maxed for Gold Rathian, which I'm guessing is pre-Safi? Returning players who didn't stick around will be confused and most guides never bring this up. I've made screenshots of both MR70 sets though I may go for the comfy immortal build once I unlock and beat Gold Rathian. I don't even know which is the rank up quest for 70, I have two Alatreon, R. Brachy, and F. Rajang fights and I think clearing one of these will unlock my MR. My first MH game that lured me in, I hated starting with LS. Went in with the hack-n-slash mindset and was frustrated with how poor sharpness was and the Great Jagras took far too long it nearly took me out of the game. Now I'm willing to give this another go. I'm at the Pre-70 bit and have most of the gear and will retrain and practice. Hope to make it to Fatalis, but one hunt at a time I guess. Thanks for the guide!

Longsword is a funny thing with punishing draw (barioth armor) but general u focus dps and with golden rathian armor u can go db5 or vaal/nerg bonus. So makes a nice tanky build

I used Defender LS and DBs untill MR 1 than Started Using Beo Hatches Got Lucky and Got some good Decos early. Then after Unlocking MR Odogoran, its my Main now. 3 Piece Odogaron Set for Protective Polish 2 Piece Brachy with Sin+ (Odogaron Chains). Although its a risky build but if U know the gameplay mechanics it becomes so easy. Just slayed Ebony Odogaron with this build.

Why go with Kaiser Coil with Blast Attack if late game sword is poison, instead of the Kaiser Greaves?
