Power your whole panel from 120v inverter, Emergency panel wiring.

How I have wired my 220 volt panel to have both bus bars powered in an emergency situation to have 120v at all my switches and receptacles.
Dont try this yourself.

Please, if you're reading this, install a manual transfer switch or an interlock!
Perfect! Just built a solar generator and was wondering how I could power both legs of my panel with 120 volt. Pretty simple. Your video was the first to come up. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏻

Put a jumper between the hot legs and label the panel clearly. If your generator is feeding it 120v.

I'm kinda doing the same ,but i have a 240v generator hooked up with ainterlock . ?
The simplest method I've seen yet. Good job.
Just the advice I was looking for. That's for posting!
Fantastic job - I’m using a 5KVA 230v 93A solar inverter 48v on this 230 V one phase inverter L one is 115 V the neutral is 115 V in ground is ground so technically you have two hotlines coming out of this one Inverta yes it’s one phase but it’s at 115 V and what I can figure out 93 A divided by two is 45.5A Per phase and then the grid down situation having half your amperage is better than having no amperage at all thanks for your video clip electricity they try to make it too complicated and you write it down right to the balls to the wall working !
Question! When your ground and neutral are tied wouldn't you burn up a non sine wave inverter? A non sine wave puts 60v through hot and neutral, and with the ground tied to neutral it would short.
Ive backfeed with my 120v inverter. But the only way that it works is, with one hot and the neutral wire. It doesn't work when i hook up the ground wire. Im thinking the reason is because my panel is bonded already.
My 120 30 amp inverter plug has two cables and a ground. Those two cables provides 60+ v. How do I connect it to my. Home panel?
Thanks for sharing 👍
I was thinking the exact same thing. Put two pole breaker and jumper wire between two poles to achieve 120 on booth bars. As long as your not running 240v appliances I think your Amps will shoot up if you do
I have an inverter 5KVA 230v pure sine wave inverter I was planning to do what you did thank you , I was going to back feed through a 100A Double Pole Breaker and use a transformer Seimans MT0100A 220-240v in & 110-120v out ! Only for when the grid is down ! What do you think ?
Do the 220v certainbreakers break if you forget to switch them off?
For a complete offgrid application. My 240v generator is hooked to the 100amp main breaker . My solar is hooked to a 30amp single poll breaker on Side B . I have a interlock swith in place .so i can't back feed to either power source. I have not done this jumper yet . But can I take a double pole 30 amp breaker ,put a jumper wire . And safely feed both A&B ??? From 30Amp solar enverter . And does jumper breaker need turned off when 240v genorater feed box ???
I KNOW I KNOW IS 2 YEARS OLD , BUT IF YOU LOOK THROUGH THIS ,THANK YOU FOR THE IDEA
Very good job
Great job
What does MWBC mean in regards to an electrical panel box
What does MWBC mean regarding a breaker box
That’s kind of what I was looking for. I’m try to connect the inverter into the panel I have solar panels connected proper way and then the inverter wanna connect it to the panel we have no light. New track no light for 3 months
Great Job ! “ I got a question if you would be so kind and say I have a 5KVA solar inverter what’s you’re thoughts on 230v the L1 - is Hot 115v+ & the Neutral is Hot 115+ and ground is Ground “ my thoughts are off the inverter the L1 ~ 115v to 1 Phase in main panel & the Neutral off the inverter which is Hot 115+ to the other side of the main panel ! Making the box One Phase in an Electrical Emergency grid down “ the inverter is Hybrid “ but I would still shut off the 2 mains to keep less electrical confusion from losing split Phase to 1 Phase to Back to Split Phase ! Worse case scenario if I was sleeping the Hybrid inverter would kick electricity on if lost and would stop the whole main panel as One Phase when electricity came back on , “ Are “ there any issues going 1 Phase to Split Phase in you’re main panel ? If you would be so kind to answer ?
Just add a transfer switch for safety....anyway my question is...since as you said only as emergency 😁...what if instead of jumping the single pole 20Amp breakers...you used 2 outputs of the inverter with 2 extension cords?..are the 2 outputs diferente coming out of the inverter?. Thanks
I guess after watching the video my only question is can u leave the solar wired up like that once your landline utilities are turned back on

No, you would need to at least turn off the breaker with the jumper in it since that would be a dead short when fed from the utility side
Excellent 🙏

⚡️⚡️***WARNING!!!****⚡️⚡️ ⚡️☠️🔥☠️⚡️☠️🔥☠️⚡️ First and for most this is very dangerous!!!! As a high lineman this was my greatest fear!! Secondly check with your service provider before connecting one house to another, it could be considered “theft of utilities.” Thirdly… make sure you are using heavy enough gage (awg) wire, minimum of at least 12/3 wire a 20 amp circuit breaker. Forth… ONLY connect neutral and ground together in the primary panel, secondary panels the ground and neutral must be separated.
This makes me jealous😂 We use 230v out here but our local governments care a lot about safety, a little too much. I can't access anything without removing almost the entire structure. It's made so you only flip the circuit breaker when needed and that most will just hire an electrician to not have to deal with it.
How to make it out of phase , I got a SIEMENS MTO100A Transformer 220v in & 2 100v out ! Have not hocked up yet , great job !
Thanks

The main is off, so how? Just wondering?

@@The_Vols_Eye because it needs to interlocked someway! So as the only way the generator can feed through the breaker locks out the ability to have the main on. It’s actually illegal in most places to have it without an interlocking device or transfer switch

@@sashly99True!! If you don’t have an Interlock, there is always the possibility that that main breaker could fail and close back up. It’s a mechanical break that could always fail. The interlock prevents closure even in the event of a failure of the breaker.

@@sashly99 Like he said if you shut the main breaker off, it doesn’t matter just don’t need that stupid piece of metal
If you’re inverters output was 220+v you could get a Siemens MTO 100A Transformer 230v in One Phase & out Two 115v dual Phase what I’ve read ! To keep any 220v lines ! Think about it I am Not An electrician !
IT IS RECKLESS AND DANGEROUS !!!! (I am going to do the same thing in an emergency.)

Based on a couple of the comments, it IS reckless and dangerous. If you have a basic understanding of electrical wiring and mains power it’s a heck of a lot safer. Remember kids: Interlocks are only 40 bucks… EDIT: The worst part is that it’s more dangerous for the Linemen than it is for you. For anyone reading this, if you don’t turn off your main breaker or forget to turn it off, then you can send your generators electricity down the power lines and electrocute a lineman or even a family member or neighbor if lines are on the ground. If you do this, the best method is to use a generator inlet box permanently wired to a generator breaker in your panel, while also installing an “interlock” on your panel. This can all be done for less than 150 bucks in parts (that includes the breaker, generator cord, interlock, and inlet box)
I cringed when I saw this...
horribly unsafe
