    A hammer drill works great to drive a ground rod. Also wetting the rod while in use will increase the grounding efficiency

    Next time, try your air hammer to drive that rod. If your soil is not too rocky it works great.

    I'll be setting up my PC operation when I get back to Tennessee. Lots of rock ledges. When I set up the house ground , I finally cut the rod off at 7'. It's in the roof drip line and in clay so no problemo. I wonder how many tries I'll have to try before I have to do the same at my shop. Thanks Again for good info.

    My house is really old without any ground so I made a dedicated powder grounding with what I had lying around, a 16 gauge wire and a few inches of steel rod. It's probably not ideal but it works. Later I found out that people hammer 10 feet rods into the ground. Very surprised. Is it so long because top soil may become dry in the summer?

    I know that it is best to keep the ground wet around the rod in order to make it work better. As about the depth, not sure. Hope this is helpful.

    Yes, the copper tube that I hang my parts from to be powder coated has both my grounding rod and the ground wire from the powder coat unit connected to it. Here is a video that may help. Thanks for watching and commenting! kzread.info/dash/bejne/iIR_ksqjZrrHqLQ.html

    Great video with useful information but… WRT to MY shop.. I know for a fact the system is grounded to earth with a rod outside and the shop is wired with steel conduit.. thoughts/experience using the conduit as a ground path to earth..? Thx

    I asked an electrical engineer and some seasoned electricians about a grounding rod for my system and I was told that the closer a dedicated grounding rod is to my unit the stronger my ground would be. I already had a grounding rod for my shop and it was several feet away which I had been using and it worked, but after I installed a stand alone rod (and closer) just for my powder coating unit I could tell a definite difference. Hoped this helped and thanks for watching!

    Does the grounding rod and cable running to the spray booth take place of the grounding wire attached to the harbor freight gun?

  • @CycleFab

    @CycleFab

    Жыл бұрын

    I connect both my grounding rod and their ground wire to my powder coat booth. It's not necessary to use the ground wire provided from the manufacturers (Harbor Freight & Eastwood) but when it comes to powder coating I use everything at my disposal.

    I've never had that problem before. But, if your unit is old that might be an issue. My Harbor Freight started acting like that and finally just died. Hope this was helpful.

    So.... What do you clip the ground to when you are coating? The parts? Is this taking the place of the ground wire that is built into the gun?

    Watch this video of my DIY powder coat booth and you'll see how it connects the ground to the parts. It's easier to show than to tell. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iIR_ksqjZrrHqLQ.html

    I have a Eastwood dual voltage gun and where I would be installing a ground rod there is already one in the ground for the house could I use that insted?

  • @CycleFab

    @CycleFab

    Absolutely! It would probably be a good idea to clean the top of the existing grounding rod off so you get a good connection to the new wire.
