Parents were too busy hustling subs, planning for yours and your brother's future, to be home to cook a decent meal instead for you kids it sounds like. So you had to make due with what you had available. If only your parents let you make a level 3 pizza when you were 5... You were very blessed to be a fat and happy kid. Don't be ashamed of it. my childhood sub was a six inch white bread with mild salami, cheddar cheese, toasted, no veggies with tomato sauce and some salt and pepper. And then my favorite cookie would be a double choc chip, but now I usually get two cookies which is still the double choc chip along with a raspberry cheesecake (I was like 6-11 making this sub) nowadays I just get whatever I'm in the mood for (to me, getting a foot long is basically just getting two 6 inch subs for the same price)
